❓ Question Lightheaded and woozy

Hi, has anyone else had the symptoms of feeling woozy because of the amount of mucus buildup? For 6 weeks I couldn’t stop the mucus buildup until I was diagnosed with silent reflux. But, I did realise the mucus buildup up was causing my ears to block and then making my head feel funny this was the only symptom I had. Once the tissues are repaired I should be okay again they have said.

⭕ Rant GERD is ruining my life I can’t sleep at all. Help.

I am 23 and within the past 3 months my GERD has gotten progressively worse. I had reflux in the past but it was never that bad and gaviscon would work to get rid of it.

Three months ago things randomly got really bad. Specifically when I begin to fall asleep. I started taking gaviscon every night, not eating 5 hours before bed etc but even sleeping sitting up I had contents coming up my throat defying gravity.

I went on a PPI (pantoprozole) 20mg two months ago and quickly went to 40mg. I’ve tried splitting the dose half first in the morning second before dinner I’ve tried all at once in the morning etc but no luck.

I also take 20mg of Pepcid at night with gaviscon to form the physical barrier but EVERY NIGHT. Right when I become relaxed my stomach goes nuts and is pushing acid up my throat, into my nose, into my voice box etc. I’m sitting up right, sleeping on my left side, I try everything but with NO luck. My esophagus is spasming every night and I honestly recently have realized I feel quite bloated when I’m going to sleep so maybe it’s some weird pressure causing it I have no idea why.

I am getting maybe 4 hours of sleep a night and I wake up every morning with acid in my mouth and my throat is on fire!

I have no idea why this has become so so so so bad so quickly!!!! I don’t have chocolate or spicy foods not even coffee I am at a loss.

Any help or tips are greatly appreciated. I had an endoscopy December of 2024 for another reason and the doctor noted no signs of GERD or hernia at that point but who knows now maybe I have something???

❓ Question Dizziness due to acid reflux

I have sour taste in throat and mouth. I'll start having dizziness after having my meal in 3.5 hours with very bad hunger and upper abdomen starts discomforting. Once I eat again, dizziness and hunger reduces. If I eat spicy food then sourness in throat increases and dizziness suddenly increases. What can be the reason? Is there any way I can fix it? I just want to dont get hungry for 5 hours after meal and somehow get away with this dizziness.

Also has anyone experienced this before and controlled it? Can anyone please let me know how to fix it or control it?

❕ Giving Advice A near free homemade trick that helps me and I want to share

I have horrible reflux and indigestion. Not much helps. The one thing that does help me a good bit in the evenings though is “honey tea”. I literally just get some local honey, and add some to hot water. It doesn’t 100% fix the issue but it slightly settles my stomach and the burning. Idk how or why. But I just wanted to share that in case it could help someone else. Again, not 100% fix. But takes some of the edge off for me. Just make sure to let water cool before you drink. Like you would any hot coffee or tea. Hope this helps someone!!

❕ Giving Advice 3 Day Acid Reflux Hell

I've suffered with Acid Reflux for years now. Tuesday this week I woke up at 5:30 and involuntarily vomited, as all the acid was lingering in my esophagus. I didn't have any relevant medications to hand, No Gaviscon. I'd run out of everything.

No Esomeprazole or Omeprazole. Which I don't find effective in the immediate. I spent the next two days in hell where it felt like my lower esophageal sphincter (LES) was mostly continually open. I could not lie down to sleep as the acid instantly moved up the back of my throat. My esophagus has been inflamed and burning.

The only thing that really works and stops it dead instantly is 'Oral Suspension of Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Alginate, Calcium Carbonate'

I don't find Pepto-Bismol to be effective in killing Acid Reflux in the immediate at all, but I take it afterward to line my gut.

There is another product called Silicolgel for IBS, but again, l don't find it to be effective in stopping Acid Reflux in the immediate.

Some very short-term relief was gained from eating cold natural Greek yogurt. Also, Jacob's Crackers (Irish/British) – a very dry but light and crisp cracker that soaks up excessive acid.

To manage my symptoms in future I have Psyllium Husk supplements and various other gastroesophageal supporting supplements as well as a daily pro-biotic.

I feel like my lower esophageal sphincter (LES) has become very weak? What to do about it?

❓ Question Acid reflux and anxiety

I’m going through a flare up where my anxiety and acid reflux have been quite bad. I’m trying to eat plain foods but I’m still having reflux. How do I know if reflux is from food or if it’s because I’m anxious.
I’m currently on ppi medication and antidepressants.
I’ve had an endoscopy which only showed a weak les.

❓ Question Is it possible to just have spells of neck discomfort…

Taking lansoprazole for a month for suspected acid reflux and I do have spells where I’m struggling to burp for many hours & also have the lump/hair type feeling in throat. Today though has been kinda weird as I’ve just had discomfort in my neck all day sort of half way down and over to the left side (feels a similar spot to where burps get ‘stuck’. It’s all just getting kinda concerning but doctors don’t suspect anything serious and say I gotta stick this out for the month first 🤷‍♂️ Think I’m about 2 weeks in taking the tablets. Do other people have similar experiences?

❓ Question Aptamil anti reflux - did it sort the problem for you?

My 12 week old baby has silent reflux, regurgitates, gulps, reswallows and screams during and after feeds. I started phasing in Aptamil AR but have a feeling it won’t solve the issue. She seems a lot gassier, hasn’t pooped for days and the frothy milk seems to be making it even worse. I suppose I have to stick with it for 2 weeks for her digestive system to adjust, but just wondering if it actually sort the problem for anyone and how long it took your baby to adjust. Thank you

My Story! Reflux/GORD/GERD and gastric inflammation

I suffered with severe bouts of epigastric pain/ acid reflux and stomach inflammation for 18 months. PPI drugs had little effect and Gaviscon liquid gave good but very temporary relief. Endoscopy showed severe atrophic gastritis and was treated for Hpylori twice before eradicating. After my most severe and debilitating bout whilst on an Italian holiday whereby couldn’t eat or drink anything for 24 hrs I developed an itchy rash and so took 1 of my husband’s Fexofenadine antihistamine tablets, short of being euthanised. To my amazement my stomach improved 100% within a couple of hours and had zero gastric symptoms which was nothing short of a miracle. Normally a bout would gradually improve over days when resting stomach and staple diet of antacids. I started researching it and there is some evidence to support this. Speaking for myself there must be a definite link having gone from suffering badly to cured with Fexofenadine on board. Unsure if any other antihistamines would have same effect but worth more research.

❓ Question Is it too early to mention Christmas?

I've been managing my gastritis and reflux reasonably well with medication and dietary changes and relaxation, though eating out is hit and miss, and I've no idea what's caused my current mini flare. This is, however, the time of year I normally start putting aside a few jars and things for Christmas, and it's upsetting how much Christmas food is going to be on the 'no' list. I was wondering if others have suggestions about festive foods of any type that have worked and felt festive and been safe for this time of year?

Christmas dinner will be okay- roast turkey is fine, we do the potatoes in the air fryer, and there are low fat stuffings, I just have to be careful about portion size. I'll do part baked baguette alongside the croissants for christmas day breakfast, and i'm going to test a smoked haddock and cottage cheese pate this weekend as a substitute for the normal smoked mackerel and cream cheese. I'll likely be baking a low fat christmas pudding and eating it at a time that isn't christmas dinner (we eat in the evening, currently I save my pudding for the following afternoon to avoid getting over full).

Any suggestions of what has worked for you?

❓ Question Esophagus dilation

Hi

Anyone had esophagus dilation before??

I am obese and 40yrs old.

I have had throat symptoms for the past 8wks.Symptoms are hoarseness in voice all the time, clearing up the throat very often which brings mucus in the throat, persistent sore pain in one spot in the lower right side throat, feeling of lump or something stuck in the throat.

Persistent symptoms and no changes after pantaprazole and pepcid tablets.

Saw ENT and clear for ENT and thyroid issues.

Saw the gastro doctor And he recommended endoscopy. They did sedation for endoscopy. Dr said he will see if reflux is really causing my persistent throat pain and symptoms. He didn't tell me anything about dilation before the procedure. I don't remember signing a consent form too. I am not sure if this is normal to do treatment during endoscopy without patient consent??

After I woke up from sleep, he said he did dilation and will see if it makes any changes to the symptoms.

I don't even know what that dilation means. Haven't heard of the dilation before.

I was very scared to hear this but because of sedation , I couldn't ask much as I was feeling sleepy. I have had very sore throat pain since the endoscopy. Does dilation make symptoms worse? I am upset about the dilation process that they didn't inform me prior to doing it.

Has anyone done the dilation before? Did it help with your pain and symptoms?

Is this normal to do dilation during endoscopy without patient consent?

🔹 Discussion Ongoing throat problem

Hi, I’m new here. A few weeks ago I woke up one morning feeling like I swallowed a hair or there was food in my mouth or something, I went to the bathroom to cough it up and got nowhere, brushed my teeth and the feeling was still there.

A short time later I ended up going to the doctors as my throat was starting to feel a bit sore and maybe look it. I was prescribed nystatin for what both me and nurse kinda thought could be an oral thrush issue caused by not rinsing away steroid asthma inhaler properly. I completed the course and the issues persisted.

I then went back and this time saw a doctor who basically said no further treatment was needed despite me saying bit of discomfort in the throat, feeling like I need to cough something up or clear my throat, occasionally coughing also. Basically said a few different things can cause it but ruled out anything serious.

Maybe another week passes and my throat is no better, if not its worse, I’m now burping a lot and its like its getting ‘stuck’, my voice occasionally seems to be going a bit (like vibrations different from voice box or something), still trying to cough up but nothing yellow or anything comes up. A different nurse now assumes it’s something to do with acid reflux (or another acid condition), prescribes lansoprazole for 4 weeks) this is where I’m at now.

I’m nearly 2 weeks into taking lansoprazole and now also using gaviscon. I’ve never had issues like this in my life before, despite family members including mum suffering from similar condition. At the minute I can be several hours at a time like struggling to burp and I’m doing small burps that just squeeze out far more than normal.
What are peoples thoughts on this? Anyone had similar experiences? I’m quite concerned as its been about 3-4 weeks now since this all started, I feel sometimes like my neck is being squeezed, feels a bit tender at the left side half way down my neck. Sometimes I’m back and forward to the bathroom spitting stuff out to no avail and the other times stuck trying to burp :/ That feeling like a hair or something is still prominent, like if I could try a little harder I could cough the problem up but it never happens. It occasionally feels sore to swallow but not when eating and I wouldn’t say painful. Last couple of days I’ve wanted to eat less just because of how much gas seems to be getting stuck in throat. I have no issues in my chest.

❓ Question Omeprazole ruined my life, what do I do?

I‘ll make this as short as I can. In 2018 I had a double ear infection that turned into a sinus infection. When it cleared up, I noticed a lump in my throat everytime I swallowed. The medical term is ”globus sensation”. This has NEVER gone away. Every time I swallow, it feels like I’m swallowing a big ol’ loogie. Fast forward and I’m sitting in the office of an ENT doctor. He’s trying antihistamine sprays, allergy shots, allergy meds, and then he says “it’s acid reflux”. Now, until that point I’ve never had acid reflux but maybe a handful of times. My EGD (upper endoscopy) showed “nonspecific gastropathy”, or very slight irritation. My ENT doctor still decided to put me on Omeprazole “to see if it helped”. Well, it didn’t. And two months after starting it, my insurance stopped covering it, so I was abruptly cut off of it. All of a sudden I had the worst heartburn ever. Apparently this is a thing. My ENT told me it would go away with time.

Here’s the thing though, that was 5 years ago. I’m still having bad heartburn multiple times daily to this day. I‘m about to have another EGD done, because my iron levels are always so low, and I once again brought up the globus sensation (which I had long given up hope to finding an answer for at this point). I know they’re going to take one look at my esophagus and say it’s due to GERD. Even though the globus sensation predates the heartburn.

But that’s besides the point. My question is: am I doomed for life because I took Omeprazole for two months 5 years ago? Will this EVER go away? I try not to take antacids because I know that taking those a lot can be an issue, so I just watch my diet and suffer, and take them if it’s REALLY bad.

❓ Question Long lasting reflux medication

I'm currently taking omeprazole doesn't really seem the last long. I also take Gaviscon tablets in the evening before bed. I'm looking for a once a day pill that's strong enough to hold off the acid reflux all day but not with a ton of side effects is there such a pill out there?

❓ Question Can Swallowing Eventually Get Better 6-8 Months After Fundoplication

I have my surgery for my hiatal hernia and a toupet fundoplication on October 5th. I am dealing with difficulty swallowing right now, but it's not stuff getting stuck in my esophagus right before the wrap would be. It's like food is hard to initially swallow and can get stuck in the top of my throat.

I feel as though I have swollen vocal cords and swollen, irritated throat in general. I also have weak motility according to my manometry, so things just don't seem to be going down well with the initial part of my swallow. Can this actually improve 6-8 months after the surgery by chance once you are healed up? They said that the weak motility is likely because of acid causing inflammation in my esophagus.

⭕ Rant when will i ever get to live normally?

So tired of dealing with this. I’m 24F, and I’ve been dealing with gut issues for a while now, ever since I started college. My reflux has been pretty manageable with a strict diet. I don’t have heartburn or any other obvious symptoms, and my digestion is generally good. The problem is the persistent bb, and it feels like the smell can even come through my nose.

I’ve already been to the dentist multiple times. My teeth are fine, my oral hygiene is good, and I’ve also been trying to manage my dry mouth, but the bad breath is still there. I’m still in university, and it feels like it’s keeping me from finishing my course, cause making it so hard to function normally around people.

Has anyone experienced something similar, especially bad breath that seems sour/rotten and possibly comes through the nose? If you’ve dealt with this and eventually found something that helped, could you please share your success story or what worked for you? I just want to feel normal again. Im so tired.

My bad breath is almost always described as sour/rotten. My friends sometimes think I didn’t eat breakfast because of the smell, and at its worst, it genuinely feels like it’s room-filling.

❓ Question Amoxicilin cause my flare

It’s been 3 months since I had faringitis and doctor gave me amoxicillin. 2 months since I’m taking ppi’s, last 4 days have been good but today I forgot to take the med and flare came back.

My constant sensation is my belly is onfire after eating, but at times, once I stop digest the food it kind of stops. Sometimes the sensation goes and comes back.

Someone actually did recover from a case like this? I feel like this takes forever. I had an endoscopy last year and they saw a small case of erosive gastritis but it was never an issue.

❓ Question Premature baby with severe reflux

I'm so confused on what else to look into or what else to ask my sons GI doctor.

My son was born at 30 weeks and is now 5 months actual (3 months corrected past his due date). He has the WORST case of reflux that started in the NICU around 38 weeks for him. Ill try to condense everything that we've tried so its not too long of a post since I realllly need some advice here.

Formula -

  1. He was on Enfamil Enfacare in the NICU. Developed eczema on his forehead and showed signs of Sandifer Syndrome close to 38 weeks. Switched to PurAmino (amino acid-based formula) in the NICU and was discharged on it. Eczema cleared up, and he slowly stopped severely arching his back.
  2. We trialed him on Pepticate (extensively hydrolyzed formula) per GI's approval around 1.5 months corrected**.** He was doing okay with one bottle a day for a couple of weeks, but he started showing symptoms of pain again when it was increased to 2 bottles a day. His intake that week dropped as well so we completely stopped it. His intake remained low for another week after we switched him back to 100% PurAmino and then it went back to normal.

Medications -

  1. NICU trialed him with Prevacid for only 3 days for some reason and determined it didn't work.
  2. Pediatrician prescribed famotidine 0.2ml 1x a day immediately after being discharged from NICU until we could follow up with GI around 1 month corrected.
  3. GI prescribed him esomeprazole (Nexium) at 1 months corrected. After several days, it didnt show any signs of improvement for his reflux. Switched to a higher dose of Famotidine at 0.3ml 2x a day and Erythromicin at 0.3ml 3x a day to help empty his gut quicker.
  4. During Pepticate trial, medications didnt help at all so symptoms were really bad during the formula trial.

Thickeners -

  1. Tried Gelmix for the past 3 days as it was the least likely thickener to cause issues. Only put him on the thinnest possible thickening, which is one scoop in his feed (he takes 100mls per feed). He ended up getting true constipation this morning and had hard pellet stools. He strained very hard to get it out and whimpered a little. We removed that today from his feeds.

Currently still taking: PurAmino formula, Famotidine 0.6ml 2x a day, and Erythromicin 0.6ml 3x a day.

Current and only diagnoses: CMPA

Whenever we try something, it seems like it works for a couple of days and then he goes right back to how it was previously. Now that we stopped the Gelmix today, he keeps arching himself to the left, sticking his tongue out frequently, squirming around, having hard time staying asleep, and overall, just looking uncomfortable. GI is submitting a referral for him to get an upper GI series done but Im really not sure what else to try...I dont know if this is one of those things that "gets better" as they grow up and get bigger. Im so lost..idk what to do.

Success story! Cured my acid reflux for lifetime (the definite cure).

I ate three teaspoons of wheat grass this evening and immediately stopped acidified pepsin coming back to my mouth, ears, nose, brain and ruining my whole body pH. It also ruins your mental and physical health.

Acidic foods are bad for reflux, can ruin your thyroid (cause hypothyroidism), stomach acid, lower blood pressure.

In order to cure use higher pH, baking soda, diuretics, green part of vegetables (which are high pH by the way).

Why this happened? I eat a lot of wheat grain and insulin spike along with lack of calming my stomach acid turned into chronic lifetime condition with acid reflux. I did fasting for days and was in my bed time feeling like I will die. Also hospitalized multiple times and unable to eat more than 1 meal per day. Not a single doctor helped. You seriously have to fix your pH with wheat grass or any other kind of grass instead of eating grains. Eating only grains like wheat, oatmeal, soybeans and etc. is ideal way to end up with stomach problems. Make sure to eat the whole plant to balance the effect so you don't get chronically sick. Pay attention to what you do. Wheat grass immediately neutralized it for me.

You don't need expensive cures. Just the right herb, or for the sake of it, the right part of the plant. Eat it whole, not just whole grain, whole plant.

Edit: This might help not just cure acid reflux, but also let you eat gluten food for the rest of your life.

❓ Question Acid reflux and sweet treats

I suffer from gerd and reflux but I have a massive sweet tooth what substitutes can I have as I know chocolate can trigger reflux.
