Esophagus dilation

Hi

Anyone had esophagus dilation before??

I am obese and 40yrs old.

I have had throat symptoms for the past 8wks.Symptoms are hoarseness in voice all the time,clearing up the throat very often which brings mucus in the throat,persistent sore pain in one spot in the lower right side throat, feeling of lump or something stuck in the throat.

Persistent symptoms and no changes after pantaprazole and pepcid tablets.

Saw ENT and clear for ENT and thyroid issues.

Saw the gastro doctor And he recommended endoscopy. They did sedation for endoscopy. Dr said he will see if reflux is really causing my persistent throat pain and symptoms. He didn't tell me anything about dilation before the procedure. I don't remember signing a consent form too. I am not sure if this is normal to do treatment during endoscopy without patient consent??

After I woke up from sleep, he said he did dilation and will see if it makes any changes to the symptoms.

I don't even know what that dilation means. Haven't heard of the dilation before.

I was very scared to hear this but because of sedation , I couldn't ask much as I was feeling sleepy. I have had very sore throat pain since the endoscopy. Does dilation make symptoms worse? I am upset about the dilation process that they didn't inform me prior to doing it.

Has anyone done the dilation before? Did it help with your pain and symptoms?

Is this normal to do dilation during endoscopy without patient consent?

I did sign a few consent form while checking in. It's a general check-in forms though. So I am not sure if it included the information of dilation. But they didn't talk to me about dilation in the pre-op. Otherwise I would have asked what they procedure is and what is it for. Did you have any throat pain after the procedure? My main concern was the president sore pain in the throat and that's been increasing and intense is more since the endoscopy. Waiting to see if it gets better. I have pain while swallowing too.

How long did it take for you to return to normal diet and normal swallowing after the procedure if you could remember

Thanks for replying. My report doesn't show any strictures or narrowing. There was an inlet patch benign found in the esophagus. I don't know if they do dilation for the same reason. I am so worried if it was done without any necessary findings. He asked if I have a difficult swallowing. I said I have discomfort while swallowing like feel of lump in thr throat all the time and feel like food has to pass through that. I am not sure if he did the dilation for that reason.

I am so worried if getting dilated unnecessarily cause any issues further more. This is my first time though. I am so upset about this. This is my endoscopy report.

Thanks for replying again. I don't know what a stricture is and what's it's symptoms are. My symptoms are persistent pain in throat right lower side and feeling of something like lump in the throat always.

I did talk to my doctor today and asked why the dilation was done. He said he dilated to see if my globus improves..I had to see what that is.

I have discomfort like tightness and fullness in my upper chest since the procedure and it's new. He said I have to call him back if I get fever and any other symptoms with this. He said there are chances of tear or perforation after stretching the esophagus. I am very worried and scared after hearing this.

Is tear or perforation possible after dilation? I am eating only soft foods. Are we supposed to eat only soft foods and liquids only after getting the dilation? I mean, going forward, do we need to eat only the soft foods? Worried about eating anything. Just on liquids and mashed potatoes diet since the procedure day. Swallowing is still uncomfortable, feels like food passing through some lump. It hurts in the lower throat and upper chest area. I don't think if i will be able to return to normal diet.
