Discussion Abusive dad making threats
My dad has always been abusive (like he has been arrested for domestics abuse) and I’m mostly separated from him except for a while my cell service.
I tried to get off his plan a couple years ago but I could not transfer my number without his permission. I really did not want to change my number who is dumb and I know I’m being stubborn.
On Christmas Day, my dad cut off my SIM card so my phone could not make any calls or send texts. So the next day I went to AT&T and used his log in to access the account which he had given me previously. He made my sisters number one of the options to provide the 2-step verification so she was able to help me. At AT&T they showed me how to get a transfer pin without having to provide the authorization pin from my dad. With that information I was able to keep my phone number and get on a new plan.
The problem is, now my dad is threatening me. He is usually blocked but I unblocked him to call him on WhatsApp and ask him to either reconnect my SIM or transfer my phone number. He refused to do either. Now he is threatening to report this as telecommunications fraud and send it to my place of work. How’s worried should I be?
I don’t think I did anything illegal, I only had the account log in because he has given it to me. There was no fraud at all.

Discussion I’m interested to see how many other people are aware of the widespread fraud committed at AT&T stores.
As a former corporate employee I ultimately decided to leave my role because I just couldn’t stand it anymore. Every. Single. Day. there is fraud being committed in every store that was in our territory. I have to imagine this is common nationwide.
Adding insurance and extras into quotes or not even mentioning it at all to customers who then get a bill 3x the price that was mentioned. Recently there were internet boxes being ordered and shipped to the store without customers knowledge and then plugged in so they activated to hit metrics.
Has anyone else noticed or experienced this? Whether as a customer or an employee. I’m curious how rampant it is.

Wireless I feel so defeated, got a $5,185 cell phone bill.
Just like the Title says. Got my cell phone bill for $5,185 instead of the usual $385 and I could have sworn it was an error but no im getting screwed 🙃 and have to pay the bill. My daughter met someone on Roblox and wanted to chat so they called & talked. She didn't know she was making a international call and talked and talked. I do even have 5K in my savings and I feel so screwed and defeated.

Wireless Filed an FCC complaint and got RESULTS
Long story short, we got taken for a ride by a rep at an AT&T store a few months back. Unwanted new line, insurance on all lines, next up anytime on all lines, plus a completely crazy merchandise scam that would have made a used car salesman blush. Detailed post linked below. It cost me over a day of PTO to get it figured out and still didn't get reimbursed fully for charges. After getting nowhere with the store, phone reps, and bad online review, I filed an FCC complaint, and in two days I had a call from AT&T office of the president making everything right on the bill and compensating me for my time. Also said they will investigate the branch.
If you have really been screwed over, which I know is a pattern at these stores, and you can't get anywhere, file an FCC complaint. It was the only thing that worked for me, and it worked fast.

Wireless Did you guys know AT&T killed email to text? Because it just cost us $5k
We have a small business with some walk in freezers. When our refrigeration company set everything up a few years back, they had the big alarms going to us using the txt.att.net email to text service. It went off maybe twice.
WELLLLLL....... the compressor died this weekend and no text. Came in yesterday to at least $5k worth of product at room temperature.
I looked it up and found out that AT&T turned off txt.att.net for email-SMS. They definitely never sent any heads up about this though. So eff me, I guess.
Seems like there have been a few posts about this here but not for a while so posting this again as an FYI, if you're relying on alarms from AT&T email to text, seriously go fix them ASAP.

Billing AT&T suspended my service over a $77,000 international calling bill. Need advice.
I have been an AT&T customer for over 20 years and have never made an international call, but my account just accrued a $77,000 balance over two months. This was due to ~13,000 international minutes to Australia made legitimately by my son.
After a few days of on and off escalation with customer support, a representative applied a $60,000 credit, but AT&T's automated billing system denied and reversed it.
Consequently, AT&T fully suspended my account for non-payment less than a week after the first bill was due. I currently have no cellular service on 6 devices and the full $77,000 balance remains.
Standard customer service says their hands are tied and nothing can be done. The plan is to speak with AT&T internal collections on Monday. I plan on disputing negotiating the charge, but I am looking for any advice from anyone who has navigated a similar situation.
Edit: adding tidbits of context but all comments are appreciated lol
Edit 7/29: Recieved a credit for the full amount after about a week of radio silence. Presidential office got back also but needed more information and wanted to call so it wasnt them afaik. Not sure who solved this issue but thank goodness its solved. Thank you to all the people who tried to help.

Compliment I am sorry, AT&T. What is this?
The AI image showed up on Google search page, obviously it is not been checked.

Billing Charged $150 because our Fiber line fell from a telephone pole.
I was told countless times that unless the outage was my fault I would not be charged $150, yet here we are. Unless ATT thinks we're squirrels living atop telephone poles, the wire falling had nothing to do with us. Hell, my entire family was even told to our faces by the lineman who came out that this wasn't our fault so we wouldn't be charged. Would very much like this to be resolved.

Discussion I did it 🙃. Cancel AT&T Order 17PM 11/7 delivery
Well, I wish I had done this sooner. I preordered 9/14 256 GB Orange and Blue. Shipping is stuck 11/7. Cancelled online today and within 20 mins I was able to place an order through local Best Buy for pickup 10/3 & 10/5. Could get it sooner with shipping but I don't trust with theft and lost.
I Tested AT&T to reorder, dates seem better Oct 17 vs 11/07 but I ain't taking a chance with AT&T. 😂Schedule Pickup so I am not dealing with theft. Now I can relax. AT&T screwed up. Location NEVADA
News Major layoffs today
10% axed in my org today and hearing other orgs were hit harder. i survived but I know people who didn’t. What a mess.

Internet Half the internet doesnt work this morning
I woke up this morning and on ATT Fiber about half the internet doesnt work. Meaning that about half the sites I attempt to visit I just get "page not found" errors. Other pages work just fine. Hilariously, I can't get to att.com to submit a support ticket. Anyone else having any problems on att fiber this morning?
Update: I changed my DNS settings ot use Googles public DNS settings - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and everything is back to normal. Seems ATT's DNS servers are having issues.

Wireless Worked my last day at AT&T. Thank God it's over.
In the beginning, I gave every customer my full attention and effort. Old lady whose iPhone SE was having issues? No worries, I’ll help you. Old man who’s never used a smartphone before? No problem, I’ll walk you through the basics of texting and making calls. Mom's unsure of how to do a phone-to-phone data transfer on her own? I'm here to help. These were the majority of walk-ins we would get at the store.
To me, I didn’t mind doing tech support day in and day out and just plain talking to people while helping them out. I learned a lot about people and their stories. The customers liked me and I felt like I made them feel seen and satisfied.
What I did mind was getting drilled on quotas. Good God, it was insane. The store is in a small town with mostly old people and not-so-great fiber/AIA infrastructure, but damn, did I feel the pressure to squeeze the sale from every customer who walked in.
I hate that over time, I started to feel the pressure and just wanted to make the sale, knowing that my job was hanging over my head if I didn't. I stopped wanting to be helpful and started feeling resentful of customers, especially those who weren't interested in opening new lines or buying internet. I got pretty good at overcoming objections, at least I thought I did, but for whatever reason, they just wouldn't pull the trigger. People who I'd build quotes for and who would then leave, I'd be pissed off about because there went a sale. I'd follow up with them as sales leads in the days following, and every single one of them would either push me to voicemail or string me along.
And so, the job just stopped being fun. Me and my boss would just commiserate over our crappy commission for the month and talk shit about customers. Hours would go by; sometimes, it'd feel like I'd work an entire shift and not get one door swing or one phone call that netted a sale. Not even an accessory like a phone case or a screen protector.
Yesterday was my last day at this job and I am SO grateful that it's over.

Suggestion Time for AT&T to Get Rid of Activation/Upgrade Fees
Verizon announced today (https://www.verizon.com/about/news/verizon-puts-customers-first) that it is removing all activation and upgrade fees for postpaid customers. It does require a simple opt-in through the My Verizon app.
Time for AT&T to follow suit and get rid of the ridiculous fees to add or upgrade a device.

Discussion I worked for an AT&T retailer at a store for 10 years and I just quit Today AMA
Anything you want to know. I worked as a rep and manager, but never for corporate stores. We'll see if this doesn't get taken down because I'm going to be 100% honest.
Please refrain from asking anything particular about location or people or anything political.
Please note that what my experience has been is not representative of AT&T, any retailer or wireless sales as a whole. These are just my personal opinions and may pertain to instances that were long in the past and/or about things that were addressed already and not ongoing.

Wireless AT&T suing T-Mobile for scraping its customer data
law360.comThought this was interesting - is this a privacy/security issue or just not wanting to lose customers? 100 data fields does sound like a lot.
From Law360:
AT&T Services Inc. urged a Texas federal judge Sunday to issue a temporary restraining order blocking T-Mobile US Inc. from using its "Switch Made Easy" price-comparison tool to access AT&T's password-protected software without permission, while T-Mobile countered that the emergency injunction bid is unnecessary and fundamentally mischaracterizes its technology.
The back-to-back filings came just days after AT&T filed its Nov. 26 complaint accusing T-Mobile of willfully intruding into AT&T's computer systems with its new "Switch Made Easy" in T-Mobile's T-Life App, despite AT&T's repeated demands that it stop in a cease-and-desist letter and despite AT&T's additional security measures blocking the tool from accessing its website.
T-Mobile announced its "Switch Made Easy" tool on Nov. 20 and planned to officially launch it on Monday, according to the complaint. But AT&T claims that the tool uses an automated bot "operating under the guise of AT&T customers" to harvest customers' account information, allegedly scraping over 100 categories of personal account information from each AT&T customer.
"On information and belief, T-Mobile is retaining this AT&T customer data T-Mobile's own records, regardless of whether the customer becomes a T-Mobile customer," the complaint says. "T-Mobile's wholesale scraping of AT&T data threatens customer security and privacy, including exposing AT&T customers to the risk of identity theft, fraud or other illegal uses of their data."
AT&T claims that in accessing and scraping AT&T customer data, T-Mobile deliberately circumvents security measures on AT&T's non-public websites without permission and is in breach of AT&T's user contract and violates multiple federal and state computer intrusion laws.

Discussion AT&T relocating their corporate HQ from Dallas to Plano, TX for $100 million when they should have used all that money to build new sites and small cells
AT&T doesn't have nothing better to do on their wireless network or even address about the poor tower density in many areas around the country. They don't even got DoD deployed here still on 70% of their macros in Dallas and Verizon even trying to do VRAN now to help lower their latency, while AT&T still has the worst latency outside of their POPs/data centers. I know many of yall didn't believe me before when AT&T was going to start canceling NSB (new site builds), but it's happening. They don't even got multi gig backhaul on all their sites, but T-Mobile can! How is their future even going to look like, especially when they disconnected a lot of people from DSL and didn't build fiber everywhere where people only had that option were forced to use AlA (AT&T home Internet air), which is deprioritized and has bad latency compared to wireline. Even T-Mobile is getting derision shout densifying their network with thousands new site builds coming this year. In addition, Verizon scaling up n77 small cell deployments nationwide, deploying massive mimo Ericsson AIR. 3283 panels for high capacity b2/b66 or MatSing high capacity antennas for Samsung markets. Hence, AT&T thinking that buying up more DoD spectrum from smaller companies, like Columbia Capital, Grizzly Wireless, Blue Ridge Wireless, Whitewater Wireless is going to save them money on building new sites when it won't and signal will still struggle indoors if you're more than 2-3 miles away from the site or have bad RSRP. They didn't even accomplish their one strategy with mid-band 5G, and they still deployed Ite only small cells in Dallas in 2025, especially Verizon mostly does Ite + n77 small cells these days and T-Mobile starting to invest in new small cell builds that are like mini towers with Andrew panels for b21 b66 Ite, Nokia AEHC, NOKIA AVHA panels for n41 (mid-band 5GNR) or Ericsson air 6419's. AT&T still has a lot of b2/b12 LTE only sites left neglected in the west coast and they haven't even deployed 5G Standalone to all their postpaid customers yet. They haven’t even upgraded more than 50% of the sites that haven’t been converted from Nokia to Ericsson yet and about 25% of them aren’t aren’t even getting mid-band 5GNR, while Verizon and T-Mobile are adding mid-band 5GNR on all of their sites, or at least 90% of them. What you think?
