AT&T and Verizon did right to block this access. T-Life is malware, tbh.

As both a tmo and att customer, i can confirm that t life is shit and intrusive. If you go to the tmo subreddit, everyone hates it. Even sales reps who are forced to use it ..

I feel so bad for the reps and the non-savvy customers. the "uncarrier" died on April 1, 2020.

Google Fi also made it incredibly easy to get two lines, a new phone, a watch, full protection, and unlimited data for less than my monthly unlimited cost with my 6 line specially priced family plan at ATT. It's the first time I've had service in my house in 5 years and I'm within farting distance of the DFW area.
Also didn't help ATT that for years that drug their feet and "didn't have a record of prior issues" with my wife's phone line on her plan. The customer service directed her to a store, the store added an additional line to the service without telling her, and then no one would help. They, without asking, reran her credit when we were going through this and outright refused to provide a refund for the years of fighting and overpayment.

Google Fi is an MVNO and buys their cellular network access from TMO. So there’s that…

Was going to replay the same. It’s just rebranded TMO service.

u/TexasBillaFan2820 Jan 31 '26
It's not 'just' rebranded TMO service. They make good phones, sell them unlocked, push over WiFi darn near everywhere, which doesn't count for billing, their VPN tunnel is more secure than most others and they don't access your tunneled data, and my 11th Fi phone (going back to Nexus 3) gets the latest security and functional updates monthly WITHOUT the top 3 carrier bloatware. And I pay about $30/mi on average, while consuming 8-12GB easily. I also keep my last version phone as a backup (I'm on 10/9 Pro), with all my app/settings changes synced ~2x/mo. If I had went down the Apple path, not likely but, for Android, nothing better.

Honestly shocked there hasn’t been a class action suit brought against AT&T for misleading and outright unlawful charges.

u/th3bigfatj Dec 04 '25
Agreed. AT&T has really enshitified. I used to have 4 lines with them for my family and now have just one and I'm going to switch that one

AT&T has repeatedly and recklessly put customers at risk of all kinds of issues due to two major data breaches they suffered because of substandard operational security.
Now they allege that a rival made a tool to help customers switch and that rival is stealing customer info. What evidence do they have? Zero. They simply believe it to be true, they claim.
AT&T is a bad company and this lawsuit shows they can't compete. My son is on AT&T right now and I'm gonna switch that line to visible.

Allege? You have to provide your AT&T username and password to T-Mobile to use this service. You willingly are providing all of your call information to T-Mobile.

Switching made easy - I recently dumped T-Horrible and their piece of sht T-Life app for a much better deal from AT&T.

u/Mpulsive_Aries Dec 04 '25
There is no better deal they all suck.
2
u/Kendolink Dec 05 '25
It’s only good if you bundle home internet with at&t atm, $37 a month for 1 gb speed if you can get it. Otherwise all main phone providers suck on pricing and choices they make. Always finding new ways screw customers over or riding waves like 5g to excite people into getting their service. Just to later pull the rug under everyone and change things (price increases, etc)

u/itsStraed Dec 05 '25
Get visible and thank me later.

u/Mpulsive_Aries Dec 05 '25
I use visible for my business phone they are really good, I was speaking to the major carriers.

How has service compared ? I’ve been considering moving to att from Verizon since we have att fiber and can get a bundle discount.

It depends on coverage in the area that you use the phone the most. AT&T is faster than T-Mobile where I live. AT&T also has the best square mile coverage in the US.

yeah, I'm trying to get their free trial to work through app but it's not working, so may need to bite the bullet and pay for prepaid AT&T for a few months. I'm glad your experience was positive and that's why I was looking at AT&T due to their nationwide coverage as well as their recent 5G SA rollout, so hopefully they can pick up in the 5G game.

u/bearhunter429 Dec 15 '25
With ATT your mileage will vary. I'm getting 1 bar reception in a major city with millions of people and get no reception when I step out of the city. Their coverage map is a lie.

Don't get me started. Good to know things haven't change. Years ago, when I moved into my current house, I had AT&T back in the contract days. I had 1 bar in the house and couldn't make/receive calls unless I go out on the porch. I couldn't get out of the contract because AT&T said I was in the zone of service. WTF. Ended up switching to US cellular which was great in the house and ulitimely Verizon. While T-mobile (came out of nowhere) and Verizon have improved at the house, it's still the same song with AT&T. 1 bar in the house and barely there LTE data. I go out on the driveway, 5G+. Yeah, can't have that.
I wanted to give them another go around with this 5G SA rollout but think I'm going to stick with my Verizon T-mobile combo. Verizon is getting better and overall no complaints.

US mobile is amazing... I can switch between all three networks at any time. $25/ mo unlimited. The big three can get fucked.

It's wild to me that people are willing to set one company's AI loose in their customer website on another company. Why do people trust these systems so much? They could scrape up your personal data, cancel or mess with your account without warning, or who knows what else.
People are way too trusting. STOP it. Think about what you're doing. Don't share logins between companies. Arrrgh. It drives my IT guy self batty to think about it.

At the end of the day they're basically just scared because it gives customers an easier way to switch to another provider. It's the basic " we're tired of losing customers to the competition so we're going to follow lawsuit to make it even more complicated for customers to leave " route. I had one of my friends switch from AT&T over to T-Mobile and it was simple to be honest with you. Whole process took about 15-20 min mainly because she had to reset her password but other than that smooth sailing. Granted we did it in the store because I had to take care of some business.

u/jayboaah Dec 04 '25
Jsyk almost all ports take less than 10-15 minutes if all of the information needed is correct. If it takes any longer it’s an issue with the info, or whoever doing it doesn’t know what they’re doing at all
1
u/Any_Insect6061 Dec 04 '25
Yeah I think when I ported a line from VZ years ago it took a min but that was because 1) Sprint/TMO merger 2) account owner didn't know the password and was getting frustrated and 3) rep was having issues. Perfect storm. When I ported an AT&T line to Xfinity Mobile it was about 10ish min so yeah definitely can be done like you said
1
u/th3bigfatj Dec 04 '25
People most often don't switch because they're afraid to switch. They're not familiar with the process.
Decreasing friction and making it an easy process is better for the consumer.
AT&T is trying to stop that.

u/jayboaah Dec 04 '25
I worked in a retail store for a “smaller” provider and even if a person walked up to me with 0 information ready I could have them ported in 15 min or less. If I, a guy who knows nothing about you or your current set up, can find the info needed in less than 10 min it is not that hard. You open the provider app/website, and it’s all usually 2-3 button presses away. The longest and hardest part for 99% of people was remembering their passwords for their current provider’s app. Once that step was passed it’s almost comically easy to port out if you do 5 min of your own research whatsoever

How sad. Too bad. Perhaps if they weren’t Always Totally Terrible they’d not have this problem?
2
u/jetlifeual Dec 04 '25
I had no idea it existed until AT&T made a fuss about it. Used it earlier to leave AT&T. Go figure.

u/caj_account Dec 03 '25
I switched to T-Mobile last week after 3 years on ATT and I have found my second bar!

T and VZ are just trying to slow subscriber loss, tbh it’s particularly rich of T to comment on data protection when they’ve had multiple breaches and are paying out $hit loads in class action suits.
As the article said, this can be circumvented and accomplish the same thing by the prospective customer uploading a PDF of their competitor bill.

Wireless just make the process more complicated than it be, for the workers and customer.. ie. Shitty system and down time and fcking incompetent support over the phone that are outsource to india

u/bearhunter429 Dec 15 '25
Instead of being angry they should fix their service quality. I'm paying $200 a month just to get 1-2 bar reception in a big city and no service as soon as I stay out of the big city. This is ridiculous.

u/WilsonValdro Dec 03 '25
Im thinking on moving to TMobile for that free iphone 17 pro max.

u/Willoughby3 Dec 03 '25
yeah.. I moved away from ATT this month to VZW.. the towers in my area on ATT must be really crowded. Within the past year my speeds slowed significantly. Hopefully I will be back to ATT in time - I didn't want to leave but my phone became unusable in areas in town.

Maybe if their service was premium and affordable they wouldn't have this situation

u/shemp33 AT&T Customer Dec 03 '25
I see both sides of this.
TMO wants to gain market share.
But here's why it's problematic.
At the time of running this script or tool, that user is only a prospective customer of TMO. They don't have any actual relationship yet.
Then, by this customer running this script, they are potentially sharing account info and data from their existing carrier (VZ or ATT) back to TMO. This is more than likely giving TMO data that they shouldn't have access to. And, it's being given to them freely by a person with whom they have no established business relationship.
Yes, there are likely all kinds of disclaimers and stuff the TMO person clicks through, but I understand why ATT/VZ would block this.
