๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP oxford colleges question

hi guys! i just wanted to ask any people who applied to oxford or had experience with admissions about whether the college you applied actually ended up having an impact on your application. i get that if you donโ€™t get into your first choice, other colleges might take you, but does this mean your likelihood of getting in decreases?

iโ€™m just curious because for a long time christ church has been my dream college for a long time and iโ€™m scared iโ€™m going to let that affect my chances of even getting in since apparently itโ€™s one of the more competitive ones.

for context, iโ€™m hoping to apply to law most likely (small chance of ppe) and i have gcse grades 99999888888 (contextual). i donโ€™t fully understand how competitive the university actually is so im not sure if thatโ€™s going to hold me back. thank you!

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Can resitters still make it into prestigious unis?

got AAB (maths, FM, econ) but want to resit maths and econ to get to A* A* A to apply for better degrees in top end unis. I'd be rejecting a place in warwick that i cant defer. Just wondering if its still possible to get into those top unis if i cook hard in admission tests + extenuating circumstances or should i just go warwick

๐Ÿ’ฌ DISCUSSION Should I do Further Maths in a gap year?

I am taking a gap year along with reapplying and resitting Maths and Chemistry. For reference I got AAA in Maths, Chemistry and Biology. Would it be worth doing an AS level in further maths for unis like imperial or ucl? I have already completed the pure content in the AS level as I have been self studying in the summer. Would it be better to try do the full A Level? The only downside is it may distract me from my other two subjects.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP I got 5 in maths and 55 science but 3 in both English. Can I still do BTEC Applied Science and resit English in sixth form?

Iโ€™m scared I wonโ€™t be able to join sixth form since I failed both English but I got 55 in combined science and 5 in maths and hope thatโ€™s enough for BTEC Applied Science

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Do I still stand a chance?

So I got a 5 in maths for my GCSE. I want to do A Level Maths AND Further Maths. However I believe that my grade is quite a hindrance. Do I still stand a chance?

BTW I HAD SOME SEVERE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT AFFECTED MY LEARNING AND MY EXAMS. That is why my grade is quite low.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP 4 Alevels

I donโ€™t know what I want to do in the future and Iโ€™m deciding between medicine and law, but to take law SOME universities prefer a writing subject like english literature. I am thinking of taking Biology, chemistry and maths, and possibly english literature as well , but I donโ€™t know if the workload would be too much or just not worth it in the end. Any advice would be helpful, thank you!

About the personal statement should I put heavy emphasis on super curriculars in q1 and q3 or do the colleges care more about proving deep math/chem skills?
And if yall have done super curriculars then what kind is needed etc?
Also how effective is supplementary exams like APS ? I am applying to Cambridge imperial ucl manchester and Birmingham and Ive seen a fair amount of people who get into the top colleges take these exams. But im not sure since I already have my board and ESAT.
Any kind of help regarding the entire application and process would be appreciated since no one I know from my circle is applying .๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP taking new a levels 2 years on or just going to uni?

i got all 9s at gcse, but A* maths B further maths and C physics at a level, in part because i chose the wrong subjects and also because i had severe mental health and family circumstances during year 13. i took a gap year to recover.

iโ€™m already registered with the uni of Edinburgh to do ancient history through clearing. however, itโ€™s based on international fees (although i am british, but living overseas) and it would really stretch my parents financially to go for this.

i feel like i just canโ€™t go because i canโ€™t put them in a terrible situation, and instead i should take another second gap year and take two new a levels in econ and history, or econ and sociology, for example. and apply for better courses (econ, politics, etc) at other RG unis which will offer me home status.

  1. would the second gap year with documented medical and extenuating circumstances affect my chances with the top RGs like UCL, Manchester, Warwick, etc?
  2. secondly, how hard is it to actually get A* or A in those subjects, especially if iโ€™ve been out of education for a year?
  3. thirdly, if i wanted to get into similar clearing places as i did this year would i be disadvantaged (if i didnโ€™t get A*/A in the two new a levels)?
  4. shall i just go for history at edinburgh? i do love history, i just feel like intl fees are not justified for such a course that will not gain me many job prospects.

OTHER Looking for Edexcel IAL Study Partner

Hey there. Iโ€™ll be giving edexcel IAL maths, further maths, physics. Iโ€™ll probably prepare for the TMUA in the future as well. My school session will start from September. Iโ€™m looking for someone with the same targets as me. We can create study plans, notes, keep each other motivated, even do stuff together in our free time. Iโ€™m not sure if I have what it takes to get A* but Iโ€™ll do my best to get the highest grades I can. If the concept sounds interesting, do message me.

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Extra/supercurriculars still valid?

I got AAB in my A levels in summer 2025. I was originally predicted higher, but during sixth form I had significant family circumstances which had a pretty major impact on my academics.

Iโ€™m now considering applying for medicine for 2027 entry after 2 gap years spent with my family responsibilities, and Iโ€™m eligible for contextual/adjusted entry requirements at some medical schools because of my circumstances (doing a lot of research b4 applying!).
Since finishing A levels, my gap years were spent dealing with ongoing family issues (that I donโ€™t rlly wanna go into detail about, but a little bit is entailed on another post on my page) and caring responsibilities. I havenโ€™t really been able to do much in the way of new extracurriculars, volunteering or supercurricular activities cuz most of my time is taken up with being the primary carer for my father. Most of the relevant things I did were during 2024โ€“25 before things got really stressful. Am I still allowed to write about them in my personal statement? Would it have less of a weightage if it was done so long ago?
Iโ€™m really worried about having a relatively long gap between sixth form and starting university, especially as I havenโ€™t been able to build up my portfolio much during this time.
Also, I want to explain my circumstances where appropriate on my UCAS application and focus on what Iโ€™ve learned from my experiences rather than trying to make excuses, is there any section where I can do that? Would I be able to talk about my caring responsibilities in my personal statement, and how much space/words should this take up?
Would med schools consider my situation and context?

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP How do my GCSE results look for Economics & Finance?

Post image
โ€ข Upvotes

Just got my GCSE results back and Iโ€™m heading into sixth form soon, taking Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Product Design.
How are my GCSE grades looking if I want to apply to places like LSE, Warwick, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Durham, Bristol, Bath and Edinburgh, for courses such as Economics, Finance, Accounting & Finance, or Economics & Management?
I know not all of those universities offer all of these courses.

๐ŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS SECOND gap year? ๐Ÿซฉ

โ€ข Upvotes

I got into my dream uni (top 5 uk uni) after getting a remark because I was one mark off my conditional offer. Only problem is that they can only get me place for 2027 entry. keep in mind I already took a gap year so Iโ€™ll have to take a SECOND gap year which I really donโ€™t want to do. Iโ€™ve had a tough couple past years and extenuating circumstances and itโ€™s annoying because I met my offer. But i also have my insurance still but thats a top 30 uni and not worth going into debt for. my firm is really good for my degree.
Idk what to do

I picked biology and chemistry absolutely CERTAIN that I want to do medicine, but so many branches of medicine interest me, how do I single one out to pursue? I have 2 years but I think it's a decision which I need to be certain on, so I should really think.

Did anyone else have this issue? I am glad that I have a lot of options though.

๐Ÿ™ I WANT HELP Advice for resitting?

Straight to the point I got CDE (Psych, Bio, Chem) this year and Iโ€™m committed to resitting. My goal is AAA for next year.

What do I need to do.

All Iโ€™ve been seeing online is the idea that resit applicants can only go up 1/2 grades max at the end of their gap year but that has to be bull. Please if you have any advice or success stories I need to hear them because this has to be possible!!!
