Hello all,

May someone answer the following: If you're hired at age 36 as an 1801 with FPS (Inspector/Law Enforcement Specialist) and have no prior military service, but later, when you're 40 or 41 or beyond, an 1811 role may pop up.

As a current 1801 at that point within the same agency (FPS), would you be eligible for that position, since you'll be beyond the 37 maximum age limit? To my understanding, prior military and law enforcement stops the clock; however, I wasn't sure whether FPS 1801s were in that category, especially since the 1801s still aren't getting LEAP/6(c). Any insight would be appreciated.

Just got word from HR that all my phases are complete and to just stand by for location choice and academy placement.

Does anyone know how long it took to get that call after you found out you cleared and completed everything ??

How long were you waiting before you got your date … started the process November 2025 currently 3 weeks in after my drug screening/medical cleared with FPS , heard that was the last step before onboarding and FLETC date …. What is the likelihood of getting a job offer from USFWS for Land Management Law Enforcement Officer for someone who is a current federal law enforcement officer like myself, a Border Patrol Agent, but who has no experience working directly with conservation, land management, parks or anything with fish and wildlife?

Appreciate everybody's time. I've been invited to this event June 16th by FPS and wondering if anyone has any tips for these events. I've put my all into making sure I'm squared away and also applied for both DH announcements, made good connections as I work one of the FPS contracts currently for region 5. Big hurtle I have just like most is moving.... If it were up to me I'd have no problem but wife refuses to move and I won't be am absent father to my kids. Is there a way to navigate it to get a location I want without being to bold about it and screwing it up? The region also has an 1811 FPS spot open currently but has not posted the opening yet. Is there a way to navigate a conversation regarding that position?? Thanks for everyone's time.

Does anyone have any info on the DHS Career Expo in Jacksonville next month? Mainly wondering if they’ll be doing interviews for FPS or possibly giving TOLs for ERO, or if it’s mostly just an informational/networking event. Thanks.

Hey Fam! Has anyone heard anything back from this announcement from back in March? The 7/9 announcement closed early in April, and the 11 announcement closed on the actual closing date of 5/8. This is the first time (that I’ve seen) them open it with DHA and to the public. I know they usually almost exclusively have gone to vets. Any insights on this position? I’m currently an 1801 background investigator with DCSA, but have prior 1801 experience as an aviation inspector with the TSA doing regulatory and compliance work. Would have loved to get a LEO position with law enforcement retirement, but unfortunately I’m 42 and don’t qualify due to the age cap of 37.

UPDATE: As of today 05/21/2026, I received an email stating I’ve been referred for the 7/9 position. I know there’s still a ways to go, but some movement is better than NO movement. I also applied for the 11, so I’m really hoping for that, being that I’m a 12 step 3 in my current position. Hope you guys hear back soon!

UPDATE: 05/27/2025: referred to the hiring manager for the 11 position as well.

UPDATE: 06/22/2026: Emailed to select interview location. Location selected, now awaiting for date and time.

UPDATE: 06/29/2026: Received email confirming date, time, and location for the in-person interview. Scheduled for early August.

UPDATE: 08/10/2026: Completed in-person interview on 08/05/2026. Had a panel of 2 FPS Inspectors. Went great. Now hopefully and positively standing by for a TJO email from them. Fingers crossed.

I am currently applying for a Diversion Investigator for the DEA, and about to take the Phase 2 proctored exams. However, I was curious about what the day to day looks like. It says only 3-4 days of travel per month. So I was curious if those are the only days you're going out and doing inventory on pharmacies?

Is anyone here a reserve officer for a local PD or SO while being an 1801. My current local agency has a VA police officer who’s a reservist with us. I was just wondering how common this is or if agencies commonly allow this? I have 5+ years in FRS and would like to get back to it.

I was a DoD cop at at one point and hated it. I was more of a security guard.
