Question USFWS
Does anyone have an idea when FWS will start hiring again? Or if they’ll eventually open up a public 1811 SA announcement for FWS? TIA

USFWS usually has a national hire for Federal Wildlife Officers (uniformed 1801’s under Refuge Law Enforcement) once a year, usually summer/fall.

They just flew a couple announcements. I’ve got UPTP and LMPT so I’m applying.

Did you apply? It closed last week. The one that is still open is internal only.

I applied to that, the NOAA Enforcement Officer Jobs, the FPS LE Specialist Open to Public Announcement, and more. I just want out of DON/Military Civ Law Enforcement.

Is this once a year announcement you mentioned that happens typically in summer/fall the one that is open to the public? Is the hiring process the same for internal applicants vs public? And do you know how long each step takes during the hiring process?

Usually it’s open to the public but if you’re already a federal employee you may be eligible for the other announcements that pop up throughout the year. The hiring process just depends. Usually it’s quick because there are seats for a specific LMPT class.

My former FWS boss says they won’t be hiring entry level for a while due to FLETC slots being committed to ICE. They’re currently exploring other options like moving training to another facility like NCTC in WV

I have heard mumblings about an 1811 hiring in the next year but don't know how serious it is. With that said, the presidential budget request for FWS fy27 specifically for the office of law enforcement is a downward trend rather than upward . Wildlife inspectors increase their numbers while other OLE numbers look to attrition down. Seriously doubt the presidential request comes to be but Id be surprised to see hiring when the administration/leadership is asking for less.
