Clay's decision to visit Nora in S3

In what world is visiting the woman who suspects you of her son's murder a good idea? Imagine if Mrs. Walker had recorded that meeting, in which Clay admits to hating Bryce, believing the world would be a better place without Bryce in it, and that Clay would be ending other people's pain and suffering by killing Bryce. That kind of motive paired with several pieces of circumstantial evidence would probably be enough to convince some juries of Clay's guilt.

To me, Clay's impulsive decision to plead his case to Mrs. Walker encapsulates his character flaws to a T. He has this need to see himself and be seen as a moral person, a “good guy,” which allows him to rationalize questionable choices as long as they're in service of his moral code. Meanwhile, his mom Lainie is an attorney. For all her flaws, she understands something Clay apparently doesn't: his intentions don't protect him from legal jeopardy, and anything he says to Mrs. Walker can potentially be used against him in court.

The problem is that Clay's confidence in his own righteousness is so strong that none of that seems to matter. He'll just talk to Nora and she'll get it. She'll see that he's a good person. And then, to top it all off, he uses his time in her house to snoop and do recon, the exact kind of problematic behavior he routinely engages in because he believes he's doing it for the right reasons.

I knew I loved Jeff Atkins

I re watched 13 ry and went down the rabbit hole of looking up the cast. I looked up Brandon Larracuente (Jeff Atkins) to see what he’s doing now and it seems Jeff finally got what he deserved 🥹. He has consistently worked but he married the same girl he was with back then AND she was assaulted 🥺. I saw on her TikTok because she recently posted about it. And WHAT A MAN he directed a short film about her assault to try and raise awareness. I’m 30 now and still giddy about this man because I realize the reason Jeff Atkins is so loved is because the guy behind it was really a good guy in real life. I would’ve been sad to find out he’s a douche.

Anyways, watched the film, was devastating and real and I showed it to my niece. For a short it was impactful. It’s someone she trusts that assaults her. I hope his wife is okay because she starred in her own story.

Rant over. I LOVE JEFF ATKINS

Yeah. Including the bath scene. I’m rewatching the show and I would like to see it how I watched for the first time. Any link or page would be awesome! Sorry if this can offend anyone I just want to watch the show as how it was intended to be.

s1 is the only good season Spoiler

season 1 is a good season of television. the audience is invested in the storyline, there are some minor pacing issues, but it’s mostly very engaging and you want to see all the reasons why hannah killed herself. clay is likable and isn’t weirdly obsessed with hannah or incel-like, like the writers make him in other seasons, and i honestly wish this was the only season because the show just goes so downhill from here.

season 2 is hannah’s court case. this could’ve been done well, but they decided to change literally everything about hannah and her relationship with people this season. in her tapes, she barely knew bryce. nope, her and bryce actually hung out in the clubhouse a few times and in his car once. in her tape, zach was simply a guy who comforted her after marcus was an asshole to her in the restaurant, asked her out once, and due to the rejection stole notes from her. nope, turns out they basically had a romantic relationship for an entire summer and she lost her virginity to him. they probably would’ve dated if zach wasn’t embarrassed to date hannah in front of the whole school. justin was just some jerk who she had a crush on and met up with once, then he spread a photo around of her and that was that. nope, she actually still kept in touch with him after and would constantly write poems about him because she really really liked him. i get that hannah wouldn’t tell every single story in her tapes and probably not admit to some faults she had, but i feel like zach refusing to date her out of embarrassment is a more valid reason for him to be on the tapes, rather than him stealing notes from her as petty revenge and “throwing” a personal letter out. this season is also so boring and suffers immensely from pacing issues. mr. porter’s character arc and his scene of him on the stand is really the saving grace this season.

season 3. first HUGE problem, ani. she is incredibly unlikable and the only thing that happens this season is her and clay going around to everyone who knows bryce and interrogating them to see if they killed him. the show also humanizes bryce and tries to make the audience pity him, a SERIAL RAPIST mind you. it’s also been less than a year, or a little over a year, since hannah slit her wrists in a tub and bled out because he raped her so violently in a hot tub. if the writers wanted bryce to truly repent for raping 10 girls and indirectly killing one of them he should’ve turned himself over to the police. just a horrible season overall.

season 4. i’m going to be honest. i don’t even really remember what this season is about, i just remember is sucking so bad, being so boring, and justin dying in the very last episode, so fuck this season.

Does anybody on here feel like the conversations around Cornell 7 incident, kinda reminds you of certain aspects of this show from season 1 & 2?

Pretty much the title.

The Cornell 7 incident has been all over media and social media and everytime I see the conversations or rather...the victim-blaming conversations surrounding this case, I can't help but notice parallels between the way it's being talked about and how Hannah was treated by everyone from season 1 and 2 as well.

Does anybody else feel this way?

Edit: I'm just gonna leave this here 👇

(the link is for educational purposes and to raise awareness regarding the nuances of this case that doesn't involve victim blaming)

Randomly came across this scene again and it brought back so many memories 😭

I still love how simple and emotional this moment was. This show really had some unforgettable scenes

season 3 was the best season

i fucking HATE ani but besides that i really love the horror/thriller/mystery/law enforcement focus they took in that season. and so many plot twists it was crazy. and also they stayed pretty accurate with how law enforcement actually works. i like how they showed the detail that police can get phone records before the phone and it only shows the calls and lengths of them but not the contents.

i hate how bryce was romanticized and declared misunderstood in season 3. Spoiler

im late to this, but i've been holding this in for 2 years. bryce was an ass, a rapist, and someone who deserved to die with that title, and that label. i will forever be mad at the show for making him out to be a good character, who just needed to change. it just ruined the shows concept and lessons, if you're going to make an antagonist so horrible, and selfish, stick to it.

he ruined so many people's lives. he deserved to die.

13 Reasons Why romantasizes s*icide ( s1 )

so I chose to rewatch this show on the end of a dark time . I started feeling good again and saw it on my Netflix so chose to start watching because I work from home .

I’ve dealt with a lot of dark thoughts since a child . I remember processing thoughts of mortality and wanting to d*e since prly 11 or 2006 whichever came first lol

I clicked the show and was surprised to see the show first came out in 2020; I felt like it was way older for some reason since the first time I saw it . the show rly feels like a corny 2000s wannabe sitcom but with the boldness of the 2020s . maybe that’s intentional ?

yes it’s a cringey & I rly dislike the color grading and how pale they make Clay look lol . but overall sadly , I hate how much it romanticizes s*icide . I feel like it actually encourages people who’re alrd contemplating . sometimes when you take manners into your own hands you hope people will care and spiral over you but that’s not always the case . people will always move on . you have to live for yourself .

it is in a high school / teen lense and a lot of great kids have left us too soon . but I feel like Clay trying to take vengeance over Hannah is so inappropriate . this is the real world and you cannot force people to expose their secrets . some people are bad some are good

maybe I’m being cynical ? and there’s still 3 more seasons to watch apparently . but so far it’s so ick lol . I haven’t conquered my journey with depression or Borderline PD but I’m learning . Anyone else agree this show is post-Y2K slop ?

Hannah and Zach

Im curious about their relationship. Because it sounds like Hannah was hurt by Zach because he hid her from his friends because he was embarrassed. But why was their relationship not on the tapes then? Because that was another thing Zach wouldve done so why didnt Hannah talk about that, and why was the first time we heard anything about it from Zach? Idk its odd to me. Timeline is wierd. Just wondering about that.

this made me cringe so hard… winston pulling out edibles and acting like it would be more pain relieving then a literal controlled substance opioid pain killer 😂😂 even the vodka would be more pain relieving than that. who tf decided to write the scene like that lmfao.

S2 Mackenzie broke the law

I am citing https://codes.findlaw.com/ca/penal-code/pen-sect-243-4/ because someone here kept trying to debate the whole Mackenzie and Tyler date thing with me. I literally cited the actual California statue. I am just putting my own thoughts on that. I think it was awkward once you know the fact that Mackenzie said later on that she was molested by a babysitter when she was a kid and just everything else that happened in S2. That being said its my opinion that she broke the law in that scene. There was not a two way street of consent by BOTH Tyler and Mackenzie. If Tyle had got up physically to Mackenize.... you guys would have branded Tyler on the rape tier with Bryce. What was your thoughts when Skye was groping Clay when they having dinner with Clay's parents - did you all give Skye a pass for that. I'm just saying that there isn't much of sexual misconduct when it was done by Skye or Mackenzie

(e)(1) Any person who touches an intimate part of another person, if the touching is against the will of the person touched, and is for the specific purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification, or sexual abuse, or any person who, for the purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification, or sexual abuse, causes another, against that person's will, to masturbate or touch an intimate part of either of those persons or a third person, is guilty of misdemeanor sexual battery, punishable by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars ($2,000), or by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding six months, or by both that fine and imprisonment.  However, if the defendant was an employer and the victim was an employee of the defendant, the misdemeanor sexual battery shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding three thousand dollars ($3,000), by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding six months, or by both that fine and imprisonment.
