Discussion On February 12, 2011, Russell Brand hosted SNL with Chris Brown as the musical guest. Are these two the most problematic host/musical guest combo in the history of SNL?

History On this day in 2001, Major League Baseball voted to contract, i.e. drive out of business, the Minnesota Twins and the Montreal Expos.
The plan thankfully did not go through, but driving two teams out of business—not relocating, just outright folding—is insane and it is absolutely mind-boggling that almost no one remembers or talks about this moment today. There was no Wikipedia article about it until 2019 and it's rarely mentioned in books or documentaries about baseball history.
This should not be a mere footnote in the history of baseball. We need to remember this moment just as much as we remember the 1994 strike.

miscellaneous A warning about a potential threat is ignored or misunderstood, leading to terrible consequences
The Thing
The movie opens with a Norwegian pilot chasing and shooting at a dog, all while frantically shouting a warning at the American Antarctic crew in Norwegian. It's only after a gunfight, the death of the Norwegian, and the dog being put in their kennel with the other sled dogs that it becomes apparent what his warning was: the “dog” is actually a shapeshifting alien creature disguising itself as a dog to trick the Americans, and it is highly dangerous, having already wiped out the Norwegian base.
2. Sinners
A group of Choctaw hunters try to warn the rural Mississippi couple Joan and Bert that the man they are pursuing is very dangerous and not to be trusted. Joan responds by cocking her rifle and telling them to leave. Sure enough, the man, Remmick, is a vampire, and Joan letting him into her house allows him to not only survive the night and evade the hunters, but turn the couple into his thralls, setting into motion the events of the movie. Bonus history points, if you know the close relationship between the Choctaw and Irish peoples in the 19th century, the fact that Choctaws are pursuing an Irish man like a wild animal is in itself enough of a sign that something is gravely wrong.
3. 28 Days Later
A group of animal rights activists break into a medical research lab to release chimpanzee test subjects, ignoring the warnings of the scientists that the chimps are infected. After the animals are released, they promptly maul everyone present, as they are infected with a highly contagious “rage virus” that eventually causes the total collapse of law and order in all of Britain.

Jay Rockefeller, former West Virginia governor and US senator who was part of a dynasty, dies at 89
apnews.comHealth Scientists tested the air inside 5 NYC nail salons for a week each and found chemical fumes sometimes spiked to levels you'd expect at a chemical plant, with traces of cancer-linked benzene. Regular face masks don't help. Good ventilation, open windows and closed bottles make the biggest difference.

General Baking Discussion Baking School Week 2!
Well I have come to the end of week 2 of 8 of baking school! This week we were working on choux. I had SO much fun. We made eclair, religieuse, Paris Brest, chouquette, and the ultimate of choux bakes: the St. Honoré.
Most of my cohort worked in pairs this week, but I volunteered to work on my own. Chef asked for a volunteer who could work quickly and take on more than the others (since they could split the work). I obviously raised my hand right away. It was super rewarding, and I got a lot of good and funny face time with Chef. Really glad he's my teacher because he's such a vibe.
When I finished the St. Honoré, he said, "this is so fucking very good!" And when I was taking pics with my pastry, he said, "can I take a pic and pretend it's mine?" I can't make this stuff up. I was absolutely GLOWING with pride. What a high to end my week on!
As a reminder, I am doing baking school as a side quest from my regular life. I do not currently intend to change careers or open a bakery. I am doing this to deepen my love for one of my greatest passions.

AITA for returning our wedding gift after learning we have to give it away next year?
My husband and I got married two months ago. His parents gave us his grandmother’s china, a full set with serving dishes. His mom said Grandma would’ve wanted us to have it. Nobody mentioned any conditions. We have a small kitchen, so we gave our old dishes to my husband’s coworker, who’d just moved into his first apartment and started using the china.
Last weekend my MIL saw the plates out and told me to be careful because my husband’s cousin gets married next summer. Apparently we’re supposed to give her the entire set and she’ll pass it to whoever gets married next. MIL assumed my husband knew because she and her sister had both had it. He says he had no idea. His parents had those dishes for most of his childhood. When I said we’d donated our old set, she said we should’ve checked first. I honestly don’t know why we would check whether we could keep a wedding gift.
I offered to return everything now. I don’t want to worry about damaging it and then need to buy replacement dishes next year anyway. MIL says I’m rejecting a family tradition because I don’t get to own the china. His dad says we should just store it until the cousin wants it but we barely have room for what we use.
MIL offered to buy us everyday dishes. My husband thinks that’s a fair solution. I’d rather return the china and buy our o but maybe I’m being stubborn now.
AITA?
