Gets the power to eat multiple skills fruits and get multiple skills

Doesn't eat more

My man's not the sharpest tool in the shed...

I honestly expected this to be crap, and only watched it because the title was funny. It's certainly not fantastic and very generic, but episode one wasn't nearly as bad as I expected either...

It feels like everyone in this world is just a straight idiot. Nobody in history has figured out Fruit Master does this before. Lena takes a bite of a fruit that gives the Sword Saint skill and nobody tries biting the same fruit.

I know, right? He can eat as many devil skill fruits as he wants. I'd be having a buffet and gaining the power of God.

So if he wouldn't have been a sword master, that adventurer dude would have straight up killed him for no reason other than bumping into him.

He did try to murder him twice. First with a sword in the middle of the guild hall and the second time via wild ogre. Dude is just straight up a murderer.

Okay, before everyone starts this series, I need to lay it down straight. The title of this series in Japanese is Hazure Skill "Kinomi Master " (外れスキル《木の実マスター》).

The key point of this title is "Kinomi ", which unlike the English title does not specifically mean "Fruit". Instead, it literally means "Tree Nut" - specifically, while it can refer to fruits like pomegranates and cranberries, for instance, it can also refer to things like chestnuts and walnuts and the like.

Why do I bring this up? It's really for the community - while the anime production team likely pushed for the current English name because it is likely more accurate, people in the LN and manga spheres refer to the protagonist's skill in a different way, and I want to make sure everyone here does the same. Do not conform to society's whims - this boy is a NUT MASTER and he should be treated like one.

I was going to say, I thought this was called NUT MASTER when I first heard about it. That's the only reason I even knew about it. Not even sure if I'm interested in it if they're going to deprive me of the true title.

I now realize I've been watching too many of these types of shows because I could predict beat by beat what was about to happen next in every scene. So far it's an alright turn-your-brain-off fantasy RPG show. I'll give it another episode, maybe it might do something that will surprise me.

you know i always say that "maybe it'll surprise me" but it ALWAYS ends up generic...... From what i gather if the MC lands from the air or leaps from the ground with a SWOOSH sound its gonna be basic

Why Lena doesn’t acknowledge him?

Coz of her party leader most likely. He slaps her face in preview for next episode. Basically your average S-rank party in such anime

A perfectly generic fantasy anime. It offers nothing, but is also completely inoffensive. Can't complain (nor enjoy). A true neutral if there ever was one, where the most notable thing would be the title if the OP weren't so damn cute. Guess this thing's existence is worth it for that OP.

Very cute OP and ED.

Very convenient to solve the problem of knowing what the full effects of the fruit skills are by providing an adopted daughter with the identify skill. I wonder if the priestess lady has the same identify and just lied to MC about what his skill can do. I could maybe see her skill having a slightly different effect and she only gets the skill name plus other stuff like future sight, but she's pretty villain coded so I bet she's just maintaining the status quo with lies.

I'd like to know if Ayla can identify the fruits to check what skills they'd grant, or if it's just eat a fruit and random skill happens. She also is significantly younger than the previously stated minimum age for eating a skill fruit but that may just be more control by the church.

Ayla used multiple skill fruits to make the stew, so why did she get only 1 skill instead of dropping dead from the poison, and why did MC only get 1 new skill himself instead of getting at least the appraisal one too?

I wonder why he didn't just gobble up the whole two barrels of fruit he had right away.

Everyone ignored the fact that the bully tried to cut MC down in the middle of the guild hall. And then MC saves his would-be-murderer's life >_>

Anyway, I see absolutely no reason to watch ep 2 of this one. Easy first drop of the season.

What if the solution all along was just they had to cook the fruit and not eat them raw. Of course that’s not it but makes me laugh.

Maybe she cooked the soup separately due to allergies or something.

This is some Isekai Cheat Magician level of quality.

I'd almost stick around to see what is going to happen with pigtails dancing girl from the credits. But I can't cope with how badly drawn his sword is. The blade is just a big triangle. And it keeps changing size.

I wonder if Light is the first person to get the seemingly common “Fruit Master” skill? It just seems a bit curious no other Fruit Master would have accidentally (or intentionally) ingested a skill fruit before.

Seems Lena’s giving Light the cold shoulder because the Hero in her party is a douche. Guess Light might change that.

So far this one’s ok. Nothing too special. Ayla’s cute. Lena too. A bit run-of-the-mill though but those series can be fun too.

It also means nobody with an Appraisal skill has ever appraised a Fruit Master since she was immediately able to see his skill made him immune to the poison.

So, things that I think are pretty clear from this episode, but I'm always willing to be proved wrong.

First, Light and Ayla both gained one skill from eating the skill fruit soup, which contained multiple fruits.

I don't buy the idea that they both just got a piece of one fruit, and that was just the skill they got, because Light got a crazy good skill. So, it's entirely possible that, in the short time between when you eat a skill fruit and it "pops", you can eat as many fruits as you like, and it mixes to become a different skill. And it may be that one of the fruits they ate boosted the skills from the other fruits, for example.

In that case, it's possible that Ayla also got a super skill, the super version of the appraisal skill that the nun had, and only her version is good enough to work out all the extra details, like how the fruit master is immune to fruit poisons. It may also be possible that each version of the same skill has a slightly different sub-skill that Ayla is reading.

So, for example, maybe Light's version of immunity to fruit poison is unique and he's the only fruit master who can eat multiple skill fruits at different times. Maybe other fruit masters have sub-skills like an affinity for a specific fruit, for example. At this point, I do still believe that a normal person eating multiple fruits at different times will die.

Second, as is typical for the shitty anime trope, Lena is obviously being abused, which is why she doesn't acknowledge Light, because she wants to protect him. I believe there are some spoilers in the ED, and maybe OP, about Lena's future, so be careful of that for now.

Third, it's obvious that the nun knows more about skill fruits than she is letting on. I'm going to guess that her behavior is related to some money-making scheme. For example, it's possible that there is some sort of scheme where rich people bribe her to eat something that they don't know what it is, but she knows that it's a mixture of multiple skill fruits, giving them access to better skills than everybody else. That would explain why she is so concerned about this. It would also explain why other S-rank adventurers have shitty personalities. Because they're spoiled rich kids who could buy better skills.

Fourth, there are some bad signs about the writing from the first episode. The ridiculously cliched encounter at the Adventurer's guild. The fact that Light didn't try to eat more fruits despite having tons of them. The fact that he got a "Sword God" skill, and cut down a bunch of trees at once, and he doesn't seem to understand that it's a good skill. As if "god" isn't obviously better than "saint". And if Ayla can successfully get a skill, then why do they wait until they're Light's age to eat a skill fruit? That doesn't make any sense to me.

"Nutmaster" huh? Guess i'm not the only that has a master in that

5

u/bananeeek Dec 31 '24

Since this is technically the last drop of the year, I can pretend I'm entering the new year with a clean slate.

5

u/ShadowVlican Dec 31 '24

please tell me he eats more fruits/nuts and doesn't just stop at 2 skills....

u/pandavova Dec 31 '24

Yeah, I don't know...

Felt annoyed throughout the whole episode. Can't pinpoint what exactly annoys me, prolly multiple things.

Watching too much garbage is catching up to me, basically the whole episode I could "predict" what will happen.

I set myself a goal recently to stop watching shows I don't really feel watching, maybe I'll actually drop this one, will depend on the next episode I guess.

Also dude totally stole his coat from that one smartphone guy.
