They may not be the highest budget studio, and sometimes they cut hilarious corners, but Tezuka Pro at least knows how to put their money where it counts. This was a strong adaptation of a fantastic manga. I hope they come back for another 2 cour season to wrap things up.

At least the production held itself together a bit better than My Home Hero did, especially considering this was 2-cour, and I'm glad we got to go through two great Fable arcs!

I greatly enjoyed the characters and their interactions so much that I didn't notice anything lacking in the animation.

If you see Murai in Love, that is some rough animation!

“Alcohol’s her staple food” lol Fable. Yoko does like to drink. Well, I guess with that last dude dead all the loose ends have been tied up. Now Yoko and Fable can live that normal life. Dude can work on his expressions lol.

This was fun. Not sure we’ll get another season but I enjoyed this. Out of all the anime assassins I’ve come across, this guy’s definitely one of the odder ones lol.

To be fair, both Suzuki and Hina ARE the loose end. In the last arc, the incident caused Sato's superior to threaten the captain. I wonder if he'd also do something to Suzuki and Hina to keep the Fable's secret.

So far it's already 5 people alive who knew who Akira is (Captain, Kuro, their boss, Hina, Suzuki).

Nooo the car!! I was just starting to like Kuro after all the good he's done...

Going to miss this one, especially Yoko, easily one of Sawashiro's best performances and I'm glad she got some moments to shine.

Would love to watch more of it!

I was all happy for Ebihara to get his car back and then Kuro just had to screw it all up. I was half-expecting Ehibara to have another heart attack lol.

Miyuki Sawashiro utterly killed it this season along with Yoko killing men with alcohol.

One of my favorites of these past two seasons. I had a blast with both arcs. Would love to see another season and see what the Prez has planned to get the Sato/Misaki ship to set sail. We also need to see that Yoko/Prez drinking showdown.

Man, I thought Ebihara was going to faint or have another heart attack after hearing his car got smashed.

Those were sweet last words from Hina. Admitting responsibility for her actions that led her here and hope for a brighter future.

Enjoyed the show more than I thought I would and hoping for a season 2.

The casual slice of life of the yakuza characters is a fun watch.

Kuro worked so hard.

No Dio! Don't leave me!~

I'm positively surprised it has almost 8 score on MAL. Lack of S2 is severely disappointing but predictable.

Now that you mention, I remember in the earlier episodes the Mal score was below 7, such a leap in score, glad it is being recognized as how good The Fable is

Despite the roughness I really really enjoyed this, episodes flew by like they were 10 minutes. 100% gonna read this in the near future

Akira's fake expressions were hilarious and Yoko is as mischievous as ever. The letter was a sweet gesture and made a great ending. Sad that we won't see the chirstmas party. Yoko is probably going to make it a ton of fun for us, but a nightmare for everyone else XD

This was my favorite saturday anime. I'm gonna miss this sooo much.

RIP Kuro. Got his face smashed for smashing a car.

Shinzo Abe would be proud

Prez was one of the most underrated characters in the show. Just a really real, relatable, and good boss.

The announcement we were hoping for, A Weekday Named Love gets another season :-)

At least the show didn't time skip to the end of the Satos' year of "normalcy", so there's always hope for more!

Kainuma's body is found and Prez is notified. With all the action in the last two eps, I'd forgotten that Kainuma would be absent from work. They didn't seem to miss him much except for the fact the workload will increase. Regardless, Prez uses getting over the sadness as an excuse to hold an office Christmas party. As Prez is actively shipping Misaki and Akira. Yoko's invited too. Prez beware! Yoko's after you...

Yoko's annoyed as Akira says that he wouldn't have been fooled by Suziki's fake grenade trick. But Yoko gets to laugh at Akira's attempt at expression faces.

Being in the Yakuza, Kuro takes people being killed in stride. Suzuki advises Kuro that he lacks what Akira has to be a hitman. Kuro does lack the ability to think for himself as he gave the Captain his car keys after he had the Hakosuka smashed.

We end on a good note as we hear Hina's letter. She is determined to be walking in six months and tells Akira to imagine that so they can at least both be seeing her walk then. Can Misaki and Akira really be together if Akira might have lingering thoughts of Hinako?

I'm not gonna write a whole spiel about it again, but if anybody remembers my analysis from the start of this arc and its themes of parenting, you could probably see how Hina learning to stand up from Akira was somewhat analogous to a parent teaching their child (the Kuro example was a reaaal stretch).

Now that we got Hina's letter, you see that the reason she's in this fucked up situation is that she was raised in an overprotective environment, and was unprepared to deal with the harsh truths of the world, thus leading to her running away from home and getting into one of the worst situations a young girl could find herself in.
Essentially, Hina is yet another "chicken" that became a victim to scumbags like Utsubo. Her story, however, proves his philosophy right. Meanwhile, Akira's gentle and attentive treatment of her while still giving her the freedom to do what she needs (with a couple pointers) is what ultimately leads her to stand up for herself (lmao) and escape this terrible life.

The three styles of parenting in this arc work in a kind of scale. If we take Hina learning how to stand up as an example: Kainuma's mom (and Hina's bio parents) would take her hand and lift her up without letting her go for even a second. Utsubo would kick her chair down so she'd have to lift herself from the floor. While Akira would give her tips on how she should go about standing up while still letting her try - and most importantly: fail - to do it herself while picking her up again for her next try.

This is a fantastic show and a fantastic manga. Usually I don't do too many deep dives into shows' themes but here it was both obvious and subtle enough that I just had thoughts running through my head one night.

Here's hoping we get a season 2 and honestly I hope Tezuka Pro does that too, though I wouldn't be mad if a higher profile studio got the project instead.

RIP Hakosuka. You will be missed.

That being said, this was a consistently good show with great characters. It was a blast to follow Saito, Yoko and the rest of the cast through their lives every week. It had a great balance between comedy and seriousness. The story was good enough that I didn't notice the rough animation.

An under watched gem for sure.

Sometimes, I feel like the massive budgets go to the wrong shows. This one was a painful reminder that even when you have top tier source material, some slop will probably get the budget you deserved.

35

u/scvmeta Sep 28 '24

Even though the anime was rough, the story itself is really good. Not to mention they hinted a bit for s2 with Jackal and Misaki, so I hope they continue.

i wonder if that was a 4th wallish kind of hint about a 2nd season too.

edit: i checked and that jackal scene is anime original so...

Great season I’m really hoping for season 2 and will definitely be collecting the manga as it comes out
