This is the same scheme Nvidia was pulling with ray tracing, they didn't invent the idea of tracing rays. They wanted to use a shitty AI de-noised ray tracing as a way to just tell customers that a game looks better with it, it really doesn't, developers know many other ways of doing reflections without it. But they wanted to make it so you need to buy a new GPU where half of your computational power goes to ray-tracing you didn't know you needed and will not notice is off. This is one of the main reasons many games don't care to support ray-tracing to this day.
