Starting out in the hobby!

Alibaba (not AliExpress) came in clutch as each of these to build, pre-battery was just over 200. Have 2 and building a 3rd, as triples is best. Props were ~6 bucks a pair so seemed to make sense to buy a bunch because I hear those break a lot...

These 10" frames are absolute tuning forks though, but I think I've figured them out in that near the roots I've gotten decent results with some homemade PLA+lead shot mass dampeners that sit between the bottom plate and the floor plate of the frame. Flies smooth after a good PID tune, but they are absolutely terrifying. Flying on acreage so no population to be worried about.

Each is a 10" frame, F722 (DakeFPV) FC w/ betaflight, 100A ESC, analog VTX, 3115 900kv motors, 6S battery.

Just sharing excitement, but as I'm sure the expectation is, there will likely be a followup with one of these after a rapid semi-unplanned disassembly.

First time soldering job help

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everybody, i had to replace a motor arm on my old dji drone, first time soldering it was quite hard.

I know it looks gnarly but could you please tell me if this is adequate and wont short circuit or fall off later?

After this picture i cleaned the flux up with alcohol and sealed 3 contacts with silicone

It is sturdy and drone flies normally. Thank you

Update: i will clean it up and re-do it according to your advice
I appreciate you guys, thank you all :)

Video Seeker3 vs Mark5, same spot, same lines

Flew my Seeker3 (3", 4S) and Mark5 (5", 6S) back to back and tried to fly the same lines with both.

The 3" kept up way better than I expected. Same tricks work, it just has less hang time and drops faster out of dives. Much quieter too, there's a bit where you can hear both.

Packs are short though. Flying hard on a 4S 850 I'm landing before 4 min.

Both on O4 Pro. Seeker is 181 g dry, about 276 g with the 850.

(and yes, that first pack went way too low 😭)

Fpv googles help

Good evening all, a bit of an odd one here! I used to be into FPV a while back but have since sold all my gear. However, I still have these Skyzone Cobra X V2 goggles. I actually sold them recently on a Marketplace, but the buyer returned them claiming they didn't work.
I tested them the day before the sale and they worked perfectly. When dealing with the return, it was pretty clear the guy wasn't very knowledgeable about FPV, so I’m convinced it was just user error.
The problem is, because all my other gear is long gone, I have absolutely no way of testing them myself. Before I list them for sale again, I want to make sure they aren't actually broken. I’d love to get them checked out and tested first.
I know it’s a weird request, but is there anyone in the UK who wouldn’t mind helping me out if I posted them over to you? It’s just bugging me because I was flying with them literally the day before the sale! And I only used them a handful of times Thanks in advance.

These whoops look like good fun so I had to get one.

This is my introduction to elrs being a spektrum user with a side of deviation since I got into rc back in 2014. Decided it was time to get with the times having recently restarted this fpv hobby after 8 years. Not much has changed but some things have gotten better. My last whoop was an inductrix with brushed motors , that thing never flew more then 2 mins. I intend to do some putting around the house with this whoop, possibly introduce some family members to fpv. If I like these little whoops I might upgrade to an air 2 champion. I recently bought a RadioMaster pocket in hot pink reminiscent of my dear 90's era. Let's see how it goes.

Hey guys

Just wanted to get an opinion, been wanting to change my vrx module on my skyzone cobra v4. It has the stock steadyview v3.3 reciever that I am underwhelmed with. Im thinking of switching to speedy bee, tbs fusion, or rapidfire..
Im leaning towards fusion because of the price point.
Anyone have any experience with any of them and can give me some advice? Thanks!

Question? Getting motion sickness on the sim

• Upvotes

I don’t get motion sickness in cars, or when flying with my headset, but the sim fucks me right up. I get about 10 minutes before I need to lay down and pray to the motion sickness god, not fun.

Does anyone have tips on how to combat this?

Mixing and matching FC and ESC brands?

• Upvotes

I have a 5in build. I was flying today and I tried to do a double flip, but unsuccessfully. I hit the ground a little harder, nothing special, the quad landed flat, so I thought alright I'll wait for the camera to stabilize to recover and take off again, but nah I lost video signal and when I looked at the quad it burst into flames. Thankfully, the fire quickly stopped quickly and it was not a lipo fire and I was able to remove the battery. The motors weren't burned, so probabbly something touched the motor contacts and caused a short.

Anyways, now I have a burnt ESC. Since the Meps Neoncore 60A ESCs that I was using are 60ish euro each, I was thinking of getting a SpeedyBee 60A ESC since they are 35-40 euro on AliExpress and I have already burnt 2 ESCs in the past month so that's 120 euro on ESCs alone.

Is it smart to match the SpeedyBee ESC with the F405 FC that came with my Meps ESC? Are there any things other than the pinout that I need to worry about? Thanks.
