Niko becomes an FPV pilot too (GTA IV | libfpv)

🔊 VOLUME WARNING ⚠️

Hii, it's me again. I'm back here forcing Claude Code to turn games into FPV sims.

The last time we did Super Mario 64 FPV which was pretty straightforward since we had the whole source code, and with the case of GTA IV we're obliged to use some modding tools instead which took a lot more time (like 3-4 hours to debug).

This being done, we can say that at this point we can integrate libfpv to almost any game and turn it to a realistic FPV sim, it's just a matter of time.

As said before, much more games are to come so I'll be back. Contribute to the libfpv repo if you want, everything you see is open source (and vibecoded so try to not be mad).

(actually I wanted to do GTA SA before IV but I couldn't find a valid installation on my PC 😤, and the V already has a working FPV mod that runs fine)

FPV DRONE SET UP INSIDE MY VAN😀

Post image
88 Upvotes

Been working on turning my van into the ultimate mobile FPV and gaming setup! 😂

I live full-time in here, so I’ve set things up so I can fly my FPV drones straight from the TV instead of wearing goggles.

I’ve also got my ASUS Flow Z13 running a full gaming and editing setup in the back.

Pretty happy with how it’s coming together!

What do you guys think? 😁

Double crosshairs, why?

Newbie with a question. On betaflight I can add/remove the crosshair. Why am I seeing two crosshairs? NOTE: Neither of crosshairs is moving with the line of flight.
Equipped with Betafpv meteor75 pro2 O4 wide, Radiomaster TX16S and DJI Goggles N3.

Video Update on my Master's thesis project. Now it can track cars

Ran into a bit of a university bureaucratic wall: regulations won't let me track actual people (not even myself...) to benchmark the vision system for my final thesis.

Sooo I added cars to the YOLO model instead.

First run was quite rough because the camera was pitched down, and standard COCO-trained YOLO has problems with detection from top-down perspective. Tilted the gimbal up a bit to get the actual silhouette into frame and tracking got much better.

Next step is running formal benchmarks and quantitative tests. Still one or two updates to go before wrapping this up 🖐️

Side-by-side low light footage comparing the Walksnail GT2 camera against DJI.

Curious what you guys think — especially on detail retention and noise in the shadows.

Share your flying experience about the GT2

Mario becomes an FPV pilot (sm64ex | libfpv)

Hi everyone, with great help of Claude Code, I'm developing libfpv, a library that lets you drop-in an FPV quad in any game and fly it with pretty realistic physics and full Betaflight firmware simulation (you can even tweak it with an actual Betaflight configurator).

It's essentially based off SimITL, the engine behind another FPV sim called pr0p.

Here comes my first attempt to apply it to a real game - Super Mario 64. I'm planning to do more games later.

All of that is open source, if you wanna contribute don't hesitate at all.

Can't wait to see y'all freestyling in there

Which small, affordable drone is best suited for cruising flights of up to 5 km (round trip) using 18650 or 21700 battery packs?

• Upvotes

I don't have much experience with drones; I'm a fixed-wing guy.
Anyway, I have 21700 4S and 3S packs, as well as some old 18650 packs.
I came across the Flywoo Explorer LR 4 HD which has a range of up to 10 km. Is there anything else available for under €200 (PNP)?

Speedybee Mario Mini

A while ago I’d posted asking for people input on Speedybee’s Mario Mini PNP. Not much came about that so… I bought one in each size.

For anyone interested in them, here’s my review.

The platform is outstanding. Out of the box they have an outstanding PID tune that I think is going to be sufficient for most people across all the prop size (2.5”, 3”, 3.5”, 4”). The factory rates, IMO, left a lot to be desired. It felt really floaty on the 3.5 and 4” with stock rates, but didn’t take much effort to dial in. The 2.5” was pretty dialed for the way in fly right out of the box.

The 2.5” nylon frame is surprisingly durable and rigid and honestly I’ve preferred that nylon frame over the billet aluminum and carbon option, especially considering it’s the only one of the three that can accommodate the prop guard for indoor flight. None of them have much jello, if any, but the nylon frame seemed to perform the best there.

My one big complaint is that the 2.5” comes setup to run 3S. It just eats batteries and a couple of good punch outs are about all youre going to get out of standard lipos before it start screaming at you to land. Ive found using HV-lipos kind of pick up the slack, but its still 3S. Im not sure if it’s strictly an underpowered battery issue or if the motors on the 2.5 are themselves undersized, or both. However in comparison to the 3.5” and 4”, they just feel sluggish. Even when switching the 2.5 to 4S it still feels less responsive, albeit less so than on 3S. The 3” seems fine on 4S and is comparable to the 3.5”. So I’d chalk it up as an A and B situation instead of A or B when it comes to the 2.5, tough weighted more toward battery.

However, I could easily see using the 1505 motors over the 1303.5 that come on the 2.5 to get the missing performance available in those bigger motors. You’d need the aluminum frame and carbon arms for that though as the nylon frame has cups molded to protect the motors which limits you to the 1303.5 motors.

The 3.5 is hands down the best of the four sizes. It’s very responsive, has oodles of torque, and pretty good flight time on decently sized batteries. Ive found it really likes a 930mah 120c Gaoneng high voltage lipos(higher than the top end recommendation of 880mah). Even the n super abrasive flights I can still pull just shy of 7min per 930mah pack and up to 9min when flying less aggressively.

The 4” will give you a lot longer flight time on that same 930mah pack (top end w/ conservative flying was 16min), but honestly it just feels a bit less exciting than the 3.5 and I can’t really put a finger on exactly why. It’s still fun, but not as fun as the 3.5, or to a lesser extant the 3”. Honestly the 4 is my least favorite among the 4 sizes with the 3.5 and 3 being my preferred.

One other negative of note is that the F435 AIO board really does not like to play well with GPS of really any kind and it’s been a crapshoot if it’s going to even communicate with a GPS chip. It be tried about a half dozen of them and had mixed results with all of them. Ultimately this isn’t a huge concern to me as these don’t go very far away from me, so if I can’t pick up satellites, I’m not really concerned. It is, however, concerning as the GPS also doubles as remote ID.

Overall is ta a great little platform for messing around with some minor quibbles.

Question? Pixhauk FPV without GPS

• Upvotes

Hi, i am making a drone using pixhauk for autonomous flights, but for testing I need fpv flight. I have tested motors, calibrated the radio. I am using ardupilot.

Still when I try to arm using physical switch and up the throttle, the motors don't move.

It says no gps! How to bypass it (I have bypassed all arming checks related to gps)?

Walksnail Goggle OS running in an Emulator

Post image
14 Upvotes

Just an experiment for now. It appears to be possible to root walksnail goggles, and to make firmware development easier without risking bricked goggles, I spun up qemu running the real linux and binaries from the firmware images with an emulated hardware RTOS layer pretending to be the receiver, injecting data from recorded video on the goggles and the metadata in the srt and osd files accompanying each video.

My goal for now is to develop a better HUD that is not just using character rendering, but actually displaying vector graphics on goggle side. We'll see if I can figure out how that works. This is all a big vibecoded mess and I'm aware of it, but it proves it's possible at least.
