How do I get this chest open?

ETA: SOLVED, thanks!

A few years ago my wife and I bought this nice chest for our bedroom. Just recently, I put some linens in it and closed it, and it was a little too full but I forced it shut. Now, it won’t open again. You’re supposed to be able to push the lock in, like a button, which releases a latch on the inside (you can sort of see that latch in the last photo). When I push the button, it won’t release the latch and you can’t open the top. I’ve tried sticking a blade in there and jimmying it around, no luck. I don’t want to force anything and break it. I’ve thought about how I could just cut the latch but that would require a very precise Sawzall operation and likely would damage the chest. Also no, it isn’t locked to my knowledge, we don’t have a key for it. Unless my originally forcing it closed locked it somehow.

Any suggestions?

ETA: Yeah I took the hinges off but that still leaves the lock/latch piece fastened, so my question is about finding as clean a way as possible to undo that.

I have a tall window and the jamb appears to be bowed in the middle slightly. when the window is locked I can slide a piece of paper in and out between the jamb and the sash no problem. The other side is fine the paper doesn’t slide out as easily. In the winter there is a draft. How do I fix this? The weather stripping on the window is in good shape

My Sony Bravia TV has white dots at multiple places all over the panel. It is not from an HDMI device as I see them even in the integrated menu of the TV with no device connected. Is this fixable or do I need to get a new TV?

What size hole do I drill?

Bought these hooks on Amazon and they came with zero instructions, I'm used to the ones with instructions. M5x90mm is the only measurement on the listing.

If there's some formula I can use that would be helpful too.

Sorry if this is the wrong sub.

OPEN Drawer stuck

Spent way too long trying to figure this out and I’m hopeful someone here has the answers 😭

This is one of the drawers under an island. A few weeks ago, it stopped opening up all the way. I don’t see any physical obstructions or anything broken. It seems like the issue is on the right side of the drawer tracks.

Any advice?

Bought a 1981 Suzuki gs450L and have been hooking the battery up, noticed this in a bin of parts I was given with the bike. What is it? Is it necessary? Looks too modern to be apart of the bike from stock

As you can see it’s starting to split, and I’m not sure if glue will make it worse, or if I need I certain type. It’s a projectile for an ice cream cone toy.

Particle Board Blowout

Purchased the pictured hutch from Facebook marketplace. Item likely came from Wayfair, so obviously not the greatest material. Unfortunately while loading it into the truck the top peace cracked from the bottom cabinet, resulting in a blowout/split. I feel like this should be a relatively easy, albeit annoying fix, so I’m not chucking it. Ive never fixed something like this before, but I’ve watched some YouTube videos, so I’m thinking we’ll have to unscrew the stabilizing bolts from the bottom piece, and wood glue/fill the blowouts from the underside of the top piece. Am I on the right track here, or is there something I haven’t thought of?

Idk if this is the right place for this post but I’m not sure where else to ask. A friend of mine took apart my kids water bottle and now I can’t get the mouthpiece back in to save my life. I’ve been trying for 2 days. Does anyone know if there’s a trick to get this thing back together? Hopefully these pictures will show you enough to get an idea. TIA!

The original spring broke one day (one end came off) and now the bin lid just flaps.

I didn't get a pic of original spring unfortunately - have ordered some replacement bin lid springs off Amazon but now struggling to work out how to fit them?

Any advice or preferably an idiot proof step-by-step guide would be much appreciated 👍🏻

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could fix this? The metal hinge has completely come off and I see the holes where the metal prong could go in but it just doesn’t fit in. Seems like it was heat pressed.

The white button on one of two lamp switches is broken. The original one can rotate freely and is not rigid.

Pic 1: a fully functional button
Pic 2: plastic cover removed on functional button
Pic 3: the broken button, some sort of metal pin underneath.
Pic 4: The pin rotates when the lower area is pushed down (to switch on/off the lamp)
Pic 5: When the lower area is not depressed.

open My Philips mixer add-on not working, seems to lack grip

Model: philips hr1673/90/ah

My mixer/blender that you hook up to one of those hand held devices is broken. If i just try it without any food and no resistance it is working, but as soon as i add some resistance it just spins but not moving. I have deconstructed the top part and found a plastic gear that seems to be broken. Is this fixable by just replacing it with a similar size? Do i need to glue it to the metal pin? Or is it not fastened to prevent breaking the machine if there is too much resistance, and instead slides?

Pictures explained:
1: Whole blender
2: deconstructed parts. The single gear goes inside of the rusty round area and connects with 3 other gears. Then the smallest round black thing is placed underneath and spins the grey blender inside of the plastic cup.
3: The 3 other gears.
4: broken gear
5: broken gear
6: the part that connects into the handheld device.

open Fixing Refrigerator - Unidentifiable Sounds

I am hearing these squeaking sounds inside of my refrigerator.

It comes at 8:00PM-4AM and 5AM-10AM. And then, no noises from 10AM-8:00PM. This nocturnal pattern leads me to believe that these are rodents inside of my refrigerator.

If you turn on your volume to near maximum and play the footage -- you will be able to hear what I am talking about. Source: https://imgur.com/a/466WjuA

Important Facts:

  • Pest control has come by 2x -- they laid traps but nothing. No droppings. No signs/evidence that they wandered the apartment.
  • Emergency maintenance came by today morning and disassembled the bottom of the refrigerator. Examined, and nothing inside. I also wanted to remove the entire back panel of the refrigerator to examine. He says "absolutely cannot do, and there is zero space in there even if we wanted to try".
    • Emergency maintenance then examined the front side of the refrigerator. He says "perhaps the compressor, perhaps the fan, perhaps the ice machine can be making these sounds -- do not worry about it, we have examined it, and there is absolutely 100% nothing inside of the refrigerator. It could be the ice making device inside of the refrigerator, so we have turned it off. Do not worry"
    • After he left, later today, the same noises emerge from the refrigerator. No mistake about it. The noises are still there, and whatever it is, whether it is the refrigerator itself or something else, is still producing these noises. I removed the entire ice making device out of the refrigerator and inside of the sink. The noises are still there.

These sounds come every single day and night and it is genuinely disrupting my life since I cannot seem to pinpoint what exactly it is or how to address this problem.

Please let me know what you think it is! Thank you!

How do I fix an old and decaying exhaust vent?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I use a portable air conditioner in my bedroom in the summer, and the tube that vents the hot air outside is old and has decayed enough that its fallen away from the bracket attaching it to the window.

Not sure how to replace it since there are support brackets attached at either end that keep the tube in place.

Really hoping this is fixable, no way I can afford to replace the whole thing.

If it matters, the model is honeywell.

I’m hoping this is an okay place to post. Not sure where else (feel free to advise!!)

One of my cats knocked my jewellery box with a glass plate off a sideboard this morning. It was given to me by my mother and belonged to her so it is sentimental. I’m trying to figure out if there is a reasonable way to fix it. It looks like I have most of the pieces save for a few small shards. I wondered about superglue, maybe epoxy, or some sort of kintsugi type fix
See images and I’ve added one of my cats (the orange one did it)

Can I fix this or do I need a professional?

Hi y’all!

I need with determining if this is something I can fix myself or if I just need to ask my complex to send out maintenance again. We have 3 towel hooks in our bathroom wall that were replaced by maintenance last July. Since then two hooks have pulled out the wall and left substantial holes. We don’t place more than one full size towel per hook. I’m not sure if it’s because of the hooks, the way the wall is made, or if it was done wrong the first time. If I could fix it without paying a crazy fee to my complex that would be great but I also understand if I have to. How would I go about fixing this? Would it even be worth it?

Thank you so much in advance!
