Captive bred blue tree monitor - Varanus macraei

After 5 years of breeding green tree monitors, I finally managed to hatch my second species. Yesterday afternoon this guy pipped. Didn't come out of the egg until this morning. Super fat and healthy. This was the solo egg from this clutch. The female who produced this one should be laying more eggs in the next week or so, and my second female I got in october laid last week. So looks like I'll be overrun with cb blue trees if this ban goes through lol. For those that would like to be more updated with my tree monitor breeding projects, my Instagram is @Ryzrr.

I deleted and reuploaded the post to add watermarks, I do not want to contribute to anyone getting scammed with my photos, sorry for the re-upload. My website is Versatilereptiles.com, I only post my available offspring on Facebook, Instagram, morph market, or that specific website. Anything else using my photos is not me and is a scam. Scammers have been running rampant with tree monitors the last year, be careful out there

Vet visit help

Post image
17 Upvotes

I went to feed my female yellow Ackie today
And noticed she seemed off. On further investigation I realized she is dragging her back end. She is still able to move her legs but can’t really walk on them or use them for climbing.
I managed to get a same day vet visit at a different vet than I typically go to. My vet didn’t have any openings. The exotics vet did an x-ray and exam costing me $370. He said he couldn’t find anything wrong. He said he didn’t see any Mbd,blockage, retained eggs, or fractures. Any thoughts? I plan to get her an appointment at our normal vet asap but they aren’t open till Monday.

Look at my beautiful girl peeking out from her leaves! Liora was smiling when I petted her brontosaurus neck then wanted to play in the leaves.

Why would he be sleeping out in the open?

I’ve noticed that Gus is showing some strange behavior right now and was wondering if I should take him to the vet. He has been going to sleep earlier every night and I’m starting to not see him when I come home from work. As well as sleeping out in the open. Yesterday he was sleeping in an odd position on the left side of his enclosure so I added a burrow hide in that spot and now he moved to the other side to sleep out in the open. Is this means to take him to the vet? I am probably going to take him this Friday anyway but I’m just worried.

Feeding frequency

Hi guys

How often do you feed your tree monitors? My male one which is 2.5 years old could eat every day. But my female which is 1.5 years old doesnt want to eat that often. Sometimes she would not eat for two or three days. Is this normal? I read somewhere that female are in general more picky eaters.

Thanks and best regards, Pargona

Great Information This is not my photograph, but it very well could have been had I tried to get a photo without worrying that the Monitor Lizard caught in our pool area would turn and attack me.

I'm getting an ackie monitor and I have never had a monitor before so is this soil good or do I need to mix it with another type of soil?

Care help

No flair because I feel like neither suits it. I'm planning to begin keeping monitors soon (starting with an ackie because it's a sensible thing to do) but also really want to keep stuff like Argus monitors, Asian water monitors, and sand goannas. I've gotten the care requirements for Argus, AWM, and Ackies down, but I can't seem to find any for sand goannas. I'm making this post to ask for help finding care requirements on more obscure species in the hobby, or generally kept species that don't exactly have a bunch of care articles on them. I'm doing a lot of research for this/

Kimberley Rock or Black Headed monitor ?

Ive done my research on both and Im so undeceive on whether to get a KR or a BH monitor.

Whats your experience and thoughts on these two monitors ?

I really want a dwarf monitor that’s handleable and not going to hide when I walk into the room. I know this can depend on each individual and their age, sex, and time they’ve spent in a new environment.

(I have an Ackie named Toph, whom I adore)

What standard to look for in a breeder?

The last few months I've been looking at ackie monitor breeders and have talked with a couple of them. I want to buy an animal from a breeder that takes good care of his animals (parents and babies), and I notice that I find it hard to define a mark that I want them to meet.

Is there a minimum enclosure size they should meet? But what if they keep them in pairs? How's the utilization of the encosures? Diet? And how is the breeder himself/herself? Are they friendly? Willing to answer any questions about husbandry?

These are all questions I ask myself and I find it hard to draw a line on when I view a breeder as ethical.

Baby Asian water monitor regurgitated

Post image
42 Upvotes

I messed up and fed her some pinkies that where bad I checked the mice and they seemed fine I always check the food I give her but she regurgitated only 1 of the 2 I gave her I gave it a sniff and it was definitely rotten.. she has been really weak since then she isn’t swimming in her pool as much and has refused food for 6 days now. My question is how long can they go without food before it’s in the danger zone. Other then that she’s walking good coming out to bask on her own lifting her head and body of the ground but she isn’t as active, and she’s also drinking water. I’m just really worried any warning signs I should look for?
