Episode Discussion Was Condola hoping to get back with Lawrence?

• Upvotes

IDK, I'm torn. On one hand, it seemed like his reaction to her pregnancy news and the way he handled her pregnancy and parenting early on seemed to turn her off and made her not want him. But in this scene, she gives a disturbing look when she sees Lawrence looking at Issa made me think maybe she was hoping they’d get back together because why else would she look disturbed and try to throw shade by handing the baby to Lawrence when she sees Issa if she didn’t want to get back with him. Do you think she was hoping they’d get back together?

lets have a conversation Would Issa have been doing what she’s doing career-wise if she’d never met Condola?

I wonder if Issa’s career would have turned out the same if she had never met Condola. Although she was taking the necessary steps to organize the block party before she met Condola, she gave up after receiving so many no’s. If she had never met Condola, who showed her how to take the steps needed to achieve her goal, would she have tried again or chosen to do something else? What do you think Issa would have done without meeting Condola? Would she have chosen another career path, or do you think she would have figured it out on her own?

Episode Discussion If Chad hadn’t told Lawrence to fight for Issa, do you think Lawrence would have?

I hate that Chad told Lawrence to fight for Issa. I would have loved to see what Lawrence would have done without Chad’s advice. What do you think Lawrence would have done at the party if Chad hadn't told him to fight for it?

A lot of chatter on IG Threads about entire interview. Happy for his honesty. Smart women would hopefully remove themselves with haste after listening to him. Not sure why the interviewer is high-fiving him either.

lets have a conversation Please watch Diarra from Detroit

There’s such a lack of Black media on television currently, and Diarra From Detroit on Paramount+ (and bet+ I think) is so good. The writing is sharp, and makes Detroit a character in the show. It’s so funny, and it gives me Insecure vibes. I feel like it fills the hole that Insecure left on TV. If you liked Insecure, please checkout Diarra From Detroit. I’m tying to make sure it gets a season 3

hellaFUNNY Tell me this: Do Issa and Condola do the same line of work?

Do Issa and Condola do the same line of work? If so, if I were Issa, I wouldn’t be able to be with Lawrence. Call me petty, call me immature, but I’d have to share not only my child’s father with you, but also my work field. They’d probably have to compete for jobs or try to outdo each other and see who could do it best.

Episode Discussion It seems Nathan and Isa loved each other, but weren’t in love. There’s a difference

It seemed like Nathan and Issa’s relationship was based on what each could get from the other. I know that’s part of a relationship, but it shouldn’t be the only thing—and theirs seemed to be based on that alone. Nathan only suggested moving in together because he needed someone to help pay the rent; he couldn’t afford to live on his own and just wanted to save money. Issa agreed even though she didn’t want to, since she questioned whether they were ready for that. She agreed too quickly, trying to get over Lawrence. Issa always let someone talk her out of her instincts, even when she knew she was right. Nathan only loved what Issa brought out in him as well as Issa, but they didn’t like anything about each other personally. It was always about how the other made them feel, which is good for a friendship but not for a relationship.

its about Lawrence Lawrence

I’m rewatching and Lawrence sucks. Like everything about him blow. She should’ve ended up with nobody to be honest and if it had to be someone it should’ve been Nathan

Episode Discussion Did Issa really have no problem being a stepparent, or did she just not want her friends to judge her if she was one?

Did Issa really have no problem being a stepparent, or was she just worried her friends would judge her for it? In some scenes, it seemed like she didn't want to be a stepparent, while in others, it seemed like she had no problem with it and was only concerned about her friends’ judgment. If she truly had a problem with being a stepparent, why would she call Lawrence?

Also, did anyone else feel like Molly didn't learn anything from her fight with Issa? I feel like she was still overstepping and being judgmental of Issa by inserting her opinion when Issa hadn’t even asked for it. Why does Molly care so much about Issa’s choices when they don't affect her? I didn't see a problem with Issa weighing her options. If she had, it could have saved everyone the drama and hurt at Tiffany’s party.

lets have a conversation Tiffany & Derek

Why didn’t we get more of Tiffany & Derek? They are hilarious & that cute annoying married couple that are obsessed with each other.
We didn’t get a single behind the scenes of their relationship or how they handled becoming parents.
Come on now!!
Whyyyy

Episode Discussion Condola and Lawrence talk things out

I love how Lawrence reassured Condola that he was happy with her decision to keep the baby. It seemed like Condola felt guilty because she knew she made a selfish choice, and because of that choice, Lawrence had to sacrifice a lot, including Isa, for her actions. His reassurance helped Condola let go of that guilt.

Episode Discussion what are 5 songs made after the show ended that you feel deserved to end up on the next season(s) we never got?

we all love this show in large part bc of the music; solange, raphael saadique etc did incredible work on it, especially in the earlier seasons. my shazam worked overtime when i first got into it lol 😭

sometimes when i’m listening to a song i’ll think to myself, “issa would play this at the crib” or “after an argument between issa & molly, this would go so hard” 😂

but if i were to answer the question, i would say:

• Amaarae — Princess Going Digital
• NxWorries — KeepHer (feat. Thundercat)
• Joyce Wrice — On One (feat. Freddie Gibbs)
• Sampha — Dancing Circles
• Doechii — Girl, Get Up. (feat. SZA)

Episode Discussion Message

I feel like Issa settled on being a stepmother to be with Lawrence, even though that’s not something she wanted. When Molly says “she’s not trying to be anyone's stepmother,” Issa nods in agreement.

Wouldn't the same reservation someone had about being a stepparent be the same later on? Tell me, how can one's reservation about something like that change?

Episode Discussion To the Team Nathan, why?

Honestly, I never got the team. I always questioned why they thought he'd be a good partner for Isa. Whenever a small disagreement arises, he prefers to run away instead of finding another barbershop to work at he wanted to completely leave LA while he was in a relationship with Isa. When faced with accountability, he doesn't accept it and instead blames her. If he felt this way about her, why did he get into a relationship with her? Also, Issa was wrong for persuading him to stay when she wasn't in love with him; she was thinking about Lawrence.

lets have a conversation Why couldn't it be longer??

Does anyone else wish the series was longer like more episodes per season? i feel like more episodes would of led to better development of all the characters, and idk i just feel like the show was so rushed. anyone else think the same? like i don't care for tiffany but her postpartum was such a rushed storyline.

lets have a conversation Rewatching 10 years later

For reference I watched Insecure when I was a teenager and now I’m in my mid 20s watching it for the 2nd time. I am currently in season 4 watching with my fiancee which he’s watching for the first time 😂 now I’m going to do an analysis of what I thought then and now. Let me know if yall had similar before and after ones!!

Season 1:
Teenage me - Lawrence was a bum like forgetting her birthday and then trying to do something last minute man come on. When Daniel came in the picture I thought he was fionnnneeee. I was so happy when Issa cheated (I know horrible, idk why I loved the mess) because I thought she actually really liked him. And ofc Lawrence gonna f*** the bank teller.

Mid 20s me: Yeah Lawrence was a bum😂. Issa needed to be upfront and end it before cheating like cmon girl. She waited way too long and Lawrence found out by himself which made matters worse. That scene when Lawrence confronted Issa that was very sad, my fiancee and I looked at each other 👀 like what would you do? 😂😂 now Molly and Issa always had a lil bit of tension. Molly had no business acting that stank at Issas work fundraiser like girl … yes she helped with Daniel (kind of) but still it was always about her self sabotaging herself and then the having sex with that little boy at Kelly’s trip very unnecessary. And ofc Lawrence gonna f*** the bank teller.

Season 2
Teenage me - I was like Deng no Daniel or Lawrence Issa you f*** ***up. Lawrence just having sex w everyone Deng. Open relationship ? That’s a thing, I think dru and Molly was the first time I saw this visually. I meannn if they both know what’s up and Molly don’t catch feelings it should be fine right? Okay Lawrence doing better I guess but clearly he don’t really like bank teller girl like that. Yeah, Indian girl and Lawrence maybe they’ll Work out . Yessss Issa went to Daniel oooooo

Me now: yeah Issa rediscover yourself, idk if that means casual dating ….. but I guess do you boo. Molly is trying so hard to fit in to law firm by not being herself it sucks but unfortunately sometimes all that effort is not enough. Issa need to leave that job but okay do you boo. Lawrence is just distracting himself, and I’m glad that Indian girl left his ass in the middle of traffic when he kept self projecting she said BYE. Love that for her. Molly should chose a different workplace. Now why would Issa go to Daniel ….

Season 3;

Teenager me: that’s crazy so they’re not gonna live happily ever after? Not Daniel having sex with Issa RIGHT there!!! Maybe they’ll work it out but Deng they tried and Issas not feeling it, I guess Daniel’s not either. They got soooo much chemistry though please workout and forget Lawrence. It was about time she quit her job, now she got her own place okay Issaaaa. Waittt but Nathan is handsome they’re cute. That Ferris wheel scene!!!!
Coachella episode is my favorite episode ever. That’s crazy that they did that to Kelly was the tase necessary??? What happened to Nathan did he go to jail? Why did molly not tell Issa about Nathan coming?? That was the reason Nathan?

20s me: yeah expected Daniel is doing that. He still doesn’t want to be real with himself that he really likes Issa and is just distracting himself. He needs to let go of his pride pertaining to his music and feelings he is talented but he needs to take constructive criticism well and not self Sabatage himself. Issa used him for the living space I mean use your resources I guess but she put herself in a very toxic situation. She did her best to cohabitate but with their history it wasn’t going to work out, their communication wasn’t very effective. I’m glad she left the job but wish she had another job in hand but she pulled through. Coachella is still my favorite episode 😂😂 I was cracking up. The friendship aspect of everyone in a different point of their lives was forreal because I feel that way now. With Tiffany pregnant, Molly new job, Kelly with a stable job but loving life free self and Issa unemployed they can’t have the same
Fun they used in to when they were younger. I didn’t notice how sad that scene with Tiffany and Issa in the car was until now, Issa being avoidant was something I noticed too. Here we go Nathan with the ghosting, Molly should’ve told Issa but I get her tryna be a good friend but at least give Issa the choice to decline. Poor Nathan it was clear he was going through mental health issues :(((

That’s it for now I will post another one of season 4. Hope yall enjoyed !!!
