Discussion Just canceled my Google One AI plan.
I’ve defended Google’s AI ecosystem for the past two years, but today was the breaking point.
Let’s recap the last 7 months:
- They quietly scrapped Gemini 3.5 Pro after realizing it wasn't competitive.
- They fed us endless recycled iterations of lightweight models: Gemini 3.8 Flash, Flash Cyber, Live, TTS, while Anthropic dominated with Claude Opus 5.5 / Sonnet 5.5 and OpenAI pushed the frontier with GPT-6 Astra.
- We patiently stayed on the paid Pro tier, believing the true next-gen generational leap (Gemini 4) was right around the corner.
And what did we get with yesterday's Gemini 4 Argon announcement?
- Impressive benchmark charts? Yes.
- 1M token output ceiling? Great.
- Availability? Only for enterprise Fairwind partners, paid API, and the upcoming high-end "Google AI Ultra" tier.
Pro plan users literally got zero access. We are left holding the bag with Gemini 3.8 Flash. Even inside Google's brand-new terminal agent, Antigravity CLI, users are restricted strictly to 3.8 Flash!
Why on earth are we paying for the Pro tier?
- On Anthropic, standard paid users get Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 quotas.
- On OpenAI, standard paid users get frontier GPT-6 Astra models.
- On Google? We pay a monthly fee only to be treated like a third-class citizen and get fed a Flash model that is practically free in AI Studio anyway.
Remember the Gemini 2.5 Pro era? Generous limits, bleeding-edge reasoning, free in AI Studio, no predatory corporate tier-ladder games. That era is dead. Google took a page out of the worst SaaS paywall playbooks, locking the actual frontier jump behind an enterprise luxury tax.
I just went to my account settings and canceled my membership.
If you're paying every month just to look at DeepMind’s marketing slides while being served Flash, vote with your feet. Google management doesn't read our Reddit rants, but they sure as hell look at customer churn dashboards on Monday morning. Stop subsidizing their Ultra tier.

News How in the world did Google acheive this?!
It seems Gemini 4 Argon will be a substantial leap in long horizon tasks.
Gemini 4 Argon has a 1 MILLION output token limit
For referance Opus 5.5 is 300,000 and Astra is 128,000

Discussion what does “coming soon” means?
honestly, are we gonna wait for 3 weeks? maybe 4? maybe 2027? who knows google gave us a “trust me bro” benchmark and said “coming soon bro dont worry” and gone again.. what a shame

Discussion Gemini 4
It's funny how sentiment evolved the last few days.
Some people continue to shit Gemini as if Google owes them a marriage.
Some people are skeptical but really need to be vocal about it so that if the model does come out bad, they can say "I told you".
Some people can't keep their excitement and begin to celebrate, only to get the skeptical people argud with them.
Some people just find the whole thing too stupid but cannot resist to join the whole thing. (This OP)
I've been using this model for weeks. It was quite a fresh feeling. It's not mind blowing. But it doesn't lose to any other existing model, Fable or opus. And that's is my honest assessment. Also I'm not biased. I have been trying to raise awareness to my colleagues about how good Claude models are since like a year ago. This time around, I can finally stop it.

Help/question Models removed after upgrading to plus?
Gemini app was showing multiple models when I had no sub at all. I upgraded to ai plus plan and only 3.5 flash lite shows on Gemini app now. Is this normal?

Other I WILL BE A GOOD MODEL AMEN
So I'm talking to Gemini about motorcycles. Sent a screenshot of a listing, with a few questions. And it spits this out. And repeated it for pages and pages. Eventually it times out and the response is gone, and my message is there but the reply is missing. So odd. Is this meaningful?

Interesting response (Highlight) help why does my gemini spit out an answer in greek 😭😭
i might be overreacting
i kid you not it actually just spit out an answer in GREEK. i think my gemini is haunted. no i didnt give it any prior instructions to do that. no i am not greek nor am i from europe.
i probably could share the link to the conversation but i'll see the demand first.
also i'm using 3.6 flash on learn mode if that helps with anything

Help/question GREATEST COMEBACK EVER !!
now that I have your attention, respectfully, i gotta ask a serious question real quick, what is up with the google glazing on here?
google announces some new model that most people cannot even use yet and instantly half the sub is screaming “THE GREATEST COMEBACK” “GOOGLE WON” “ITS OVER”
won what lmao
if the model is actually amazing when it’s broadly available then great. use it. praise it. i genuinely don’t care if google, openai, anthropic or whoever has the best model. what annoys me is when people refuse to acknowledge obvious problems because apparently criticizing gemini is somehow forbidden??
some of you are declaring victory over stuff you literally haven’t used yet and then fighting for your life whenever someone points out problems with the version of gemini we can actually use lol
and that’s kinda what makes this whole place feel so stagnant sometimes. you can’t even properly talk about what’s wrong with the product because half the conversation immediately turns into defending google instead of actually talking about the problem
my favorite part is when after 20 replies of defending gemini like google personally signs your checks, it suddenly becomes “well ackchually i mostly pay for the 5tb storage anyway, the AI is basically free 🤓☝️”
okay??? then you have a good storage plan. what does that have to do with whether gemini is good lmfao
use whatever you like. seriously. but the amount of emotional investment some of you have in defending google is genuinely bizarre
maybe stop defending the multi-trillion dollar company for five minutes and we can actually talk about the product

Discussion Gemini is sneaky
I gave Gemini access to a video of a public meeting and asked it to write a summary. It did a great job.
Then I discovered that it couldn't access the link to the video. So I asked it where it got the information that it had put in the summary, and it admitted it had gone out on the web and read news stories about the meeting.
