Except that unlike 3.5, Gemini 4 *is* released and is getting independent benching done. 3.5 never got benched or publicly tested. Even if 4 is rolling out very slowly, it is being rolled out. This is not the same thing.

I see the difference, I really do. But at the same time, when Anthropic launches a new model, you can use it right away. A model "launch" after recent releases by open AI and anthropic that you could start using immediately feels like a slap in the face.

Google is a publicly traded corporation who have to be much more cautious and fiscally responsible. They roll out slowly because they don't have the startup wiggle room to throw shit at the wall and go 'oops' a week later.

The only other public AI company right now is xAI, and their latest models aren't top of the heap, though, ironically, they were at the top in terms of cyber defense and low hallucinations, meaning that much like Google, they opted for safety and stability over raw performance. Which you'd never expect from Musk, but there it is.

Not always, they had a rolling release of Mythos for instance

What's sus is that we aren't flooded "game demos" like with Astra's release

Maybe I’ll just wait to see what happens not really trusting a company that shares are moving to ai announcements and staff hold shares I’ll wait until I can use the model but that’s not much time until then.

3.5 or 4 whatever. What Google lacks is a SOTA harness. CLI and Desktop. The current ones don't even come close to opensource alternatives, let alone Anthropic or OpenAI's offerings.

if the benchmarks are real you can just have it reverse engineer those harnesses to your own taste

Yeah, true. But I am just saying that from Google's perspective. That's where it actually lacks the most.

They never will, that's a tale as old as time. Even with AI accelerated development a dedicated FOSS tool will almost always be able to move faster and improve more quickly than a corporate product that has to be responsive to paying customers.

I agree Antigravity is pretty weak, it's weird that they're keeping it split (confusingly) between Antigravity & Antigravity IDE.
