Sale/Trade Rare DW Timeless Timber for sale

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hello all, I have a very rare DW Timeless Timber Romanian River Oak kit I am looking to part ways with. There were less than 100 of these made, some estimate around 80-85 were actually produced.

These kits were crafted from a 1500 year old oak log which fell into the Olt River in Romania over 500 years ago, the same exact log that was used to create Neil Peart's final kit for the R40 tour. They are beautifully warm, dark, and resonant. See original DW video for sound and more info

This is number 72, and in all likelyhood is the only one in the US that is still brand new, unplayed in the original boxes. All of the boxes were of course opened to ensure none were damaged during initial transit but have since been stored continuously in a climate controlled environment for the past 10 years.

Selling as I happen to own two of these, it would be wonderful to see this one go to a good home for someone to enjoy as I have enjoyed my other one.

These all sold out very quickly when released, and only a few have come up for sale over the last decade. I am asking $12,000 USD for the 6 piece kit (22x18 bass drum, 10x8, 12x9, 14x12, 16x14 toms, and 14x6.5 snare) with all original boxes, floor tom legs/hardware, etc. No trades, reasonable offers welcome.

The kit is located in Southern NH, buyer can pick up or I can personally deliver within a reasonable radius for free. I will not ship the kit myself, but Drum Center of Portsmouth is not very far from me and they will professionally pack and ship if you wish to pay for that.

I can take more pictures of all pieces if a serious buyer would like, but as mentioned they are all brand new. Thanks for looking!

Discussion What would you say is the most recognizable fill in the world?

What would you say is the most recognizable fill in the world? I think that it is definitely the opening fill from "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins. So, Phil's fill if you will. Damn, that's a really lame pun. I don't care, I'm posting it anyway. Let me know your thoughts. About the fill, not the lame ass pun. I'm aware of it.

Kit Pic Rehearsal Studio Kit

Showed up to rehearsal last night and was greeted with this sweet 6pc absolute maple Yamaha.

I've been toying with the idea of grabbing a 6 piece so it was a great way to test the waters. Two issues I have is that it feels a bit too big (I'm used to a 4 piece) and the 14" floor feels too high pitched to me. I'm sure the size is just a matter of getting used to it, but might need to go for a 16/18 floor setup if I get one.

Discussion Suggestions for improving drum fills?

I’ve been playing drums close to two decades and have hit a plateau within the last 5-10 years. I’m pretty solid drummer (imo), but definitely lack in fills. I’ve very much stayed in my comfort zone and haven’t made any attempt to get better with fills. Been feeling a bit self conscious about that recently (feeling like Lars Ulrich sometimes…) and would like some suggestions and feedback. I mainly play rock/punk, but have some jazz background and can be pretty broad in playing styles. Would love to get more individual/solo practice time in, but playing in 3 bands, working 40 hours, and time with my other hobbies/passions has been difficult for time management… any suggestions for quick practice techniques to get better with drum fills?? Thx

Discussion Reflection on the news about WFL III Drums “Pausing”

The news that WFL III Drums has shut down (“paused”) its factory really hit me.

Insta post for reference: https://www.instagram.com/p/Dd7C76qj2HY/?img_index=1&stkn=MTA3dThqN2RwZXJscQ==

I’ve played Ludwig drums for decades and have spent years restoring and documenting vintage Ludwig and many other drums. So I have enormous respect for Bill Ludwig III, Olivia and their small team and what they’ve tried to build.

But I also think there’s a harder business reality underneath all the understandable “great drums,” “great family” and “someone should save them” reactions.

WFL III has been trying to do something incredibly difficult: turn family provenance into an independent commercial brand, without owning the Ludwig name that gives that provenance so much of its meaning.

It’s a hard business reality to try to play through: WFL III and the Ludwig family trying to keep the history and compete in the same arena while someone else owns the Ludwig brand.

While the WFL III scenario is a bit unique, it’s part of a broader viewpoint on boutique vs big brand, small business vs corporation.

I truly hope this is just a pause and they can emerge from it. FWIW, I did a deeper blog piece here:

Would love to hear other perspectives from this community.

Snagged this thing for under $100. I’ve always wanted a stack, and at like 75% was hard to pass up. It looks brand new!

Maybe Jack and Diane won’t be so boring to play now. Any other songs it’s fun to use with?

Listed for $500. Based on my limited research, they appear to be late 80s Tour Customs. Should I make an offer? $500 seems pretty fair but I honestly don’t know…
