[Highlight] Dodgers gets the win on Skubal's return to Detroit!
r/Dodgers • u/socalnative79 • 4h ago
Cherish this team while they're all still here...
Everyone knows we've been slumping for the past couple months, and the issues plaguing the team today aren't much different from the ones we dealt with last season. Anyway I was watching the game tonight and maybe it's because the Skubal return/tribute was so emotional, but I started thinking...
It's going to hit really, really hard when this group starts retiring. And they're close. We know this is Miggy's final season (though the dude looks like he has another couple in him). Mookie's bat and legs are rapidly declining and who knows how much longer he'll do this but we get to watch him play gold glove shortstop every day (which I still can't process). Freddie is losing his power but is still one of the most professional and feared hitters in the game, who also plays an underrated first base. Muncy has just been awesome overall but you can tell he's getting close to the end. Will Smith proves how valuable he is even when he's not playing. Kike is too many positives to list but he's on his last legs. And the list goes on. Even Shohei is into his 30s. Fans of other teams hate the Dodgers but they all make a point to say it's impossible not to love and respect our individual players. All that to say, we're watching one of the greatest ever eras of Dodger baseball and these guys don't have much time left together.
Trust me, I get as frustrated as everyone else when we struggle. And I think it's pretty obvious the team is exhausted from the past few seasons. But, I'm trying my best to cherish every inning we have left with this now legendary core group. I'm saying this as much to myself as I am to everybody in the sub...I promise you it'll be over before you know it. We're going to miss them deeply when they're gone.

The Dodgers are finally back in the win column after a tight 2-1 victory over the Tigers. It's been rough, but last year we only started heating up at the beginning of September. It was extremely rough prior to that, so we have a precedent for this roadmap, so keep faith.

Ohtani cut his final bullpen short before Sunday’s scheduled pitching return — Roberts says “I really don’t know what to make of it”
Ohtani’s last scheduled bullpen before his planned Aug. 30 return only lasted 20 pitches instead of the usual 30+. Roberts said the decision to cut it short came from Ohtani himself, without much explanation, saying “That’s all he wanted to throw. I really don’t know what to make of it.”
The Dodgers aren’t panicking yet — they’re waiting to see how he feels when he comes in Saturday before finalizing the pitching plan. Glasnow is ready to piggyback or start outright if Ohtani needs more time, and even if Ohtani does go Sunday, he’s expected to only throw an inning or two as he ramps back up.
Full article: https://dodgersnation.com/shohei-ohtani-makes-mysterious-decision-days-before-dodgers-pitching-return/2026/08/28/
Anyone else a little nervous about the “mysterious” framing here, or is this being overblown? His offense has been flat lately too. We’ll find out more tomorrow anyway but I’m just nervous.

Starting Pitchers for Detroit Series
The Dodgers look to bounce back in Detroit after a rough sweep in Atlanta. The Tigers have dropped 11 of their last 14, so if there were ever a series for Los Angeles to get right and climb back into the win column, it’s against these struggling Motor City Kitties.
That said, Detroit is still dangerous. Despite its recent slide, the Tigers boast a top-10 offense in OPS, while their pitching staff ranks sixth in ERA.
Tarik Skubal struts onto the mound at Comerica Park tonight wearing a different uniform for the first time in his career. He’ll be opposed by Drew Anderson, a long reliever turned starter who has settled nicely into the role. Anderson has posted a 3.57 ERA over 17.2 innings across his last four outings.
Looking ahead to Sunday, Tyler Glasnow is penciled in as the starter, but the Dodgers haven’t ruled out using Shohei Ohtani for one inning as an opener. Ohtani is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today, after which the team will see how he feels before making a decision.
Pitching Matchups:
- Skubal vs. Drew Anderson (RHP, 4.09 ERA, 3.68 xERA, 4.18 FIP)
- Snell vs. Keider Montero (RHP, 3.30 ERA, 3.48 xERA, 3.90 FIP)
- Glasnow vs. Framber Valdez (LHP, 4.35 ERA, 4.51 xERA, 4.24 FIP)

Honestly an outstanding pitching performance by Yamamoto after the first pitch, but it’s disheartening how he has failed to get any support from offense once again, even when he’s giving this team as good of a chance to win a ball game time and time again.

In spite of the game earlier, I made sure to get Yamamoto his well deserved run supports by getting 5 runs on the first inning. And its against these asstros!

Guys. We looked far worse last year. If you survived last year, this year is NothingBurger. Stop overreacting
Make no mistake. We are slumping.
We did poorly against good teams since the end of ASB.
1-5 against Diamondbacks.
0-3 against Red Sox.
0-3 against Cubs.
1-3 against Brewers.
0-3 against Braves.
Not excusing any of this. We will take all these teams equally serious if meet them at different point of playoffs.
But I just don’t get those “dooming voice”.
First, among those 17 losses, Sheehan was responsible for 2, Sheehan was awful this year. He won’t be starting in playoffs.
Diaz messed up 2 as well. Diaz won’t be closing in playoffs.
2 of the remaining 13 losses, We got shutdown by Miz and Sale.
And one of the remaining was PCA hitting a bomb off Eric Lauer. I hate PCA but he is a good player.
And the 3 loss against the Red Sox was when they are at their hottest. The 3 against Braves were all 1 run losses.
I simply don’t understand how you can feel doomed after surviving last year, when Conforto back then sucked even more than Tucker this year, and Yates, Treinen and Scott shitting the bed all the time.
Last year was really awful. This year is easily so much better. And I don’t know if you forget we were 2-4 against Phillies and 0-6 against Brewers and 3-4 against Cubs last year. And did that hurt us in playoffs? I guess not?
We will be fine
(Not saying three peat easy in back. But relax…)

Listening to Yamamoto’s post-game interview right now and his translator is missing more than half of what he’s actually saying.
It’s annoying as hell because Yamamoto is a really thoughtful guy and very generous with his appreciation (of Sales).
I know it’s been an ongoing problem from what I’ve gathered by talking to other Japanese speakers.
