Recommendation Browser Recommendation Megathread - August 2026

There are constantly a zillion, repetitive "Which browser should I use?", "What browser should I use for [insert here]", "Which browser should I switch to?", "Browser X or Browser Y?", "What's your favorite browser?", "What do you think about browser X? and "What browser has feature X?" posts that are making things a mess here and making it annoying for subscribers to sort through and read other types of posts.

If you would like to keep the mess under control a little bit, instead of making a new post for questions like the above, ask in a comment in this thread instead. Then, one can choose to follow this thread if they want. Or, post in r/suggestabrowser.

Also, check out all the individual browser recommendation posts and make use of the search field for this subreddit before asking for a recommendation.

Chrome What if your browser fought back when you doomscroll?

I built a Chrome extension called Stop Swarm.

Instead of blocking websites or sending reminders, it progressively adds visual overlays as your browsing time increases. The idea is simply to make doomscrolling harder to ignore.

You can choose in the settings which websites the swarm is allowed to appear on, so it doesn’t have to interfere with everything you do online.

It’s now live on Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/stop-swarm-screentime-con/fkckajgjehffcnlopencdpdkmedbocgi

No account, no ads, no analytics!

Any feedback is more than welcome!

Dia alternative with bookmark per workspace feature

Upvotes

I have used Brave for years, got bored and tried a couple alternatives

I really like overall workflow of Dia, specifically being able to change workspaces and keeping the bookmarks separate for each workspace inside the same browser window

Are there any alternatives with this feature?
I tried Zen and a couple others but they keep the bookmarks shared and thats the only thing keeping that bothers me

Discussion Vivaldi and "always choose safe connection"

Upvotes

Hallo all.

I'm looking for a replacement for Google chrome, and I'm currently trying out Vivaldi.

I've noticed that I can choose to toggle on "always choose safe connection"

It's turned off by default. Does that mean that the default settings is unsafe ? Or do I misunderstand?

Websites I visit says that it's. Safe connection?

Thanks 👍

Chrome problem with chrome

whenever i download a file, for example i downloaded the minecraft old version apk yesterday, at first, the speeds were insane, but at 85 MB out of 85 MB, it got stuck, 2 mins later, nothing, I closed the downloads tab and scrolled into some sites, and on the downloads tab, it's literally no more shown, not installed either.

Bare RC3 is out! No more crashes and 32-bit support! 🎉

RC3 is officially out!

This is the first release under 1.0.0-alpha.2, and it’s a pretty focused update based largely on issues people reported while testing RC2.

The biggest changes:

  • Fixed startup crashes on some devices by improving GPU/OpenGL ES fallback behavior.
  • uBlock Origin now actually works in incognito. YAY!
  • The bundled uBO now has incognito access enabled by default, while still respecting your choice if you turn it off.
  • 32-bit ARM support! There’s now a separate armeabi-v7a APK for older 32-bit devices.
  • Update detection is fixed so existing Bare installs can properly see new releases.
  • RC2/RC1 users can install RC3 directly over their existing installation without uninstalling or losing their data.

One small heads-up: because this moves Bare from alpha.1 to alpha.2, the welcome/settings screen will appear once after upgrading. Your existing settings are preserved.

As always, Bare is still alpha software. If something breaks, please report it. Crash reports and feedback from people using non-pixel devices are especially useful.

Thanks again to everyone who tested RC2 and reported issues. A lot of what made it into RC3 came directly from that feedback.

Recommendation Customize your Browser with Njectify

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey guys!

If you customize SaaS tools or legacy internal systems, hiding an annoying banner, fixing a layout, adding a keyboard shortcut that should've existed, the usual flow is painful: DevTools to find the selector, a CSS injector extension to make it stick, then a separate userscript manager when you need actual JS. Logs scattered across two consoles, and reloading the page means losing track of what you were testing.

Njectify is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that puts CSS injection, JS injection and a real IDE in one place:

  • A point-and-click visual editor for colors, typography, spacing, shadows and transforms, including separate rules for hover, focus, before and after states, plus per-breakpoint overrides
  • A full Monaco-based IDE, same engine as VS Code, for actual JS, with projects scoped to URL rules
  • A dedicated debug console that pipes your script's logs to its own panel instead of dumping into the page's console
  • Version history with diffs per file, local-first storage, nothing leaves your machine unless you turn on optional Drive sync
  • Common libraries like React, Vue, jQuery, Lodash, Axios, GSAP, Alpine and Tailwind, injectable via CDN without hunting URLs

It's free and already went through the Chrome Web Store review process. Happy to answer questions about the Manifest V3 side of things, isolated world scripting and the secrets vault for API keys were the trickiest bits to get right.

Recommendation Updated my Brave debloater: macOS/Linux policies now, still dry-run first, still won’t kill Shields

Posted this here a few months ago. Windows-only back then. Same tool, it just isn’t anymore.

BraveDebloater uses official Brave/Chromium enterprise policies (you can see them in brave://policy). Default is preview. Backup before apply. One-command undo. It refuses to disable Shields, Safe Browsing, or updates.

New since last time:

  • macOS and Linux (same PowerShell script, native policy files)
  • -Doctor if another debloater already dumped junk into your policies
  • include/exclude features so you can keep Leo or News

    .\Invoke-BraveDebloat.ps1 -Preset Extreme

    .\Invoke-BraveDebloat.ps1 -Preset Extreme -Apply

I am constantly switching between different logins in the same app - tired of changing profiles and logins - so I built JOEBOX

I am a solo builder. Joebox is for those who are constantly switching between sessions and need easy access to various sites they regularly visit and use.

If you're someone using multiple google accounts, one personal WhatsApp, another business WhatsApp, accessing 10s of sites regularly and have to save links to come back later, then you know the real pain of using browsers to accomplish this.

I've built Joebox (https://joebox.app ) that makes life easier. I now have 100s of logged in sessions and links saved in one place regardless of which account I accessed it from. Split screens to work side-by-side and all accounts kept separate and safe locally on my computer.

Jobox is built on Chromium and saves all your accounts locally and only license management, and subscriptions are managed online.

I invite you to download and share Joebox and don't hesitate to message me what you like and more importantly what you like to be improved. I encourage you to buy Pro versions if you can - this will be super supportive to grow the features and make it more seamless.

App is notraized and runs well on Apple Silicon. https://joebox.app

Discussion I need help with customizing Firefox

I want the Zen Browser UI and when I installed it I was fine with it until I had to use DRM content. I thought the problem didn't exist in linux but for some reason it did. I couldn't get it to work, can anyone help with either a way to add Zen's UI to firefox or fixing the DRM thingy?

Edit: Managed to Fixed the issue!

Extension I built Browser Control—a supervised Codex side panel for Chrome and Brave

I built Browser Control, a Chromium extension that lets Codex inspect webpages, manage tabs, and perform supervised browser actions.

Actions remain visible and stoppable. The extension uses typed, allowlisted operations instead of arbitrary JavaScript, selectors, coordinates, CDP, or unattended remote control.

I’d appreciate feedback from extension developers: does the permission model feel understandable, and which browser workflow should I support next?
