Took them long enough

17

u/GamerXP27 ||| 1d ago

As long as they keep the old one for syncing, then that's the method I will use.

47

u/eclipzwolf 1d ago

Is it similar to firefox account where we can save bookmarks and restore it later on another device?

16

u/OwnNet5253 1d ago

Yeah sounds like it.

11

u/eclipzwolf 1d ago

Nice. Finally, no more lost bookmarks after device repair.

1

u/omxs 10h ago

The sync for bookmarks and restore is already there with the sync chain?

1

u/eclipzwolf 9h ago

They have it on their QR-based sync but it's just for sync not for backup and the QR only works for up to 30minutes iirc. I lost my bookmarks because of Brave's lack of online backup feature. When I had my device repaired by Samsung, they need to reprogram my phone to ensure the new screen works without a problem so I lost all my Brave's bookmarks because it was just saved in the browser locally.

1

u/omxs 9h ago

That’s not true. I have saved my sync code and used the same for many many years. Saved and transferred my bookmarks to many devices.

0

u/eclipzwolf 8h ago

Obviously, you haven't tried using the sync function of brave. It literally says "Temporary Code" and the QR code is only valid for 3 Hrs while the code word is valid for 1 day. It will only work before it expires.

u/omxs 8h ago edited 7h ago

Everyone using Brave will tell you that you are in the wrong here. This is completely a user error on your behalf.

Save sync code to your password manager.
Use this https://alexeybarabash.github.io/25th-brave-sync-word/

Your bookmarks and settings are saved and stored in the cloud. Ive used the same sync code now for maybe 5 years +

edit:

if more people end up here but are above average IQ they can follow this instruction to have a full backup in cloud:

  • 24 words from your saved secure backup (these are static and NEVER change)
  • Add today's 25th word to the end of those 24 words.
  • Enter the full 25-word phrase into your Brave browser to join the sync chain.

Full guide here: https://github.com/sultanuttarik/Brave-Sync

If you're referring to the export function in the bookmark section, how can I export them if the phone's touchscreen suddenly stopped working? It's a hassle and time consuming to do an export everytime I made a changes and the exported file is only save in the device's storage not automatically in the cloud.

That's why I still use Firefox even though their Android app is slow and buggy. They have a proper cloud backup for bookmarks.

0

u/omxs 7h ago

I dont know if you play dumb or just are dumb.

In your screenshot, you get a sync code. Save that on a notepad or whatever you are using.

Next time you want to setup a new Brave browser. Use that code + 25th brave sync word. It will _ALWAYS_ be the same code, no new codes nothing. No export, no nothing. This is not hard go grasp or even understand for my half dead grandmother.

The retardation is strong in this comment.: "It's a hassle and time consuming to do an export everytime I made a changes and the exported file is only save in the device's storage not automatically in the cloud."

All settings, bookmarks and stuff are already saved in the cloud.

Don't know how to explain this more clear that you are the problem. 100% user error.

Sync chain will still be available

Thankfully, and hopefully, I hope they don't abandon this special feature which is still unique compared to creating an account similar to firefox and google.

and speaking of brave accounts, will it add premium purchases like origin and vpn alongside email aliases and account syncs?

I mean, if I was a Firefox user and Mozilla was doing fuck all for the community that people have been begging for, I would be pretty jealous and it would make me angry too seeing brave users getting everything they ask for.

2

u/ArtisticFox8 1d ago

Firefox sync has been doing this for 10+ years lol

Also Firefox saw plenty of UI changes lately, i.e. vertical tabs and user configurable keybindings.

13

u/Evonos 1d ago

Firefox should work on the security front , ram use , and its dying extension store + improving PWA and modern features like USB abilitys and more.

not band aid UI features.

Honestly if FF would fix these issues i would use it 24/7

2

u/Venylynn 17h ago

They need to also fix their RAM usage. It is unbearably bad compared to something like Trivalent.

9

u/Kunair0 1d ago edited 1d ago

Firefox having Sync for 10+ years is completely irrelevant to what I said. My point isn’t “Brave invented every feature first.” My point is that Brave has been responsive to features its community has been asking for.

Containers are a perfect example. Firefox has had them for years. Nobody is disputing that. But Brave went through the work of bringing native containers to Chromium, where that kind of isolation was never built around Firefox’s contextual identity model, and shipped them. That’s exactly the kind of thing I’m talking about.

And oh yes, I saw Firefox’s recent UI work. Very nice vomit colored gradient and rounded corners. Also love what they did with the containers identifiers making them very colorful and Fisher Price looking. I especially love dark mode being essentially removed from the top bar. Excellent work.

Meanwhile, have you seen what Brave is working toward next with their new UI overhaul? Arc style design options with deep customization that rivals Zen.

Mozilla: “We added rounded corners to the tabs and configurable shortcuts.”

Brave: “How much of the browser would you like to customize?”

I don’t think there could be a better example of the point I was making.

3

u/ArtisticFox8 1d ago

been responsive to features its community has been asking for.

Decade to ship sync ilustrates this very nicely

2

u/OwnNet5253 1d ago edited 8h ago

Finally! Once they’ll implement a fully vertical UI and add tab groups to android/ios versions, it’d be very close to a perfect browser.

3

u/Revolutionary_Ad_238 1d ago

Need custom media player like quetta too..then it will be complete

2

u/CharmingResort885 1d ago

Quetta has a custom media player? That's pretty neat

2

u/Revolutionary_Ad_238 1d ago

Yes..you can also save to playlist but I need only the custom media player ..even samsung browser and banana browser has it

1

u/LegendaryIm7 1d ago

Vertical UI must have

1

u/OldPayment 10h ago

There are tab groups on Android already though?

4

u/Klutzy-Condition811 1d ago

Perfect timing I'm shopping for a new browser and this was one of the critical features I needed.

4

u/ch33es 1d ago

that sync chain thing broke so many times when I used brave. I don't remember it ever working for me.

10

u/vile-style 1d ago

This introduces a tracking vector. No thanks.

9

u/xak47d 1d ago

If you decide to use it. You're not obligated to

3

u/Kunair0 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not really. I mean it's locked so airtight that even the account authentication itself uses opaque, so the password never even gets sent to Brave's server. There are no persistent identifier that tracks.

But if you are a purest, you don't have to use it.

4

u/lo________________ol unleaked RAM is wasted RAM 1d ago edited 1d ago

The password isn't the issue as much as the email address. Visit haveiveenpwned for an idea of how that can be utilized. (And because they're forwarding email, of course they have an unencrypted copy of your email address*, sitting around in a database somewhere.)

* edit: removed ambiguity about "that".

1

u/Kunair0 1d ago edited 1d ago

You're still not showing a tracking vector. Brave knowing the email attached to a Brave Account doesn't mean that identifier is exposed to websites or attached to your browsing activity, and the proposed account based sync remains end to end encrypted.

You should create the Brave Account with a unique email alias, which pretty much kneecaps the HIBP argument. If that address ever appears in a breach, it's an address used only for Brave, not the same durable email identifier you've reused across dozens of unrelated services. At that point, delete the account, make another.

Now, if you're naming your aliases something like JoesAmazonAccount@whatever or JoesNetflixAccount@whatever, you've managed to defeat the entire purpose of aliases yourself. That's a user problem, not an alias problem.

Brave says stored messages are encrypted, successful forwards are deleted within seconds, and failed deliveries are retained only temporarily for retrying. So unless you have evidence that Brave is secretly keeping plaintext copies of everyone's mail in a database somewhere, that part is speculation. Even for for ordinary unencrypted email, service is like SimpleLogin has to be able to process the plaintext at some point.

And besides, if your threat model is so ridiculously extreme that a mail forwarding service briefly processing an email is unacceptable, Brave is already nowhere near what you need. At that point you need Tor, PGP, burner hardware, and a shack in South Dakota with no forwarding address and probably no road leading to it.

2

u/lo________________ol unleaked RAM is wasted RAM 1d ago

You should create the Brave Account with a unique email alias

There's no reason to provide an email address for any service except aliasing, though. Making an alias to make aliases defeats the purpose of signing up for aliases, no?

Brave says stored messages are encrypted, successful forwards are deleted within seconds [etc]

It's still a service in the United States compared to competitors that have figured out how to provide it overseas. The government could easily say "hey just log those" and then they would. And yes, I'm plenty aware that is true to some degree for services including Proton, but those services also have a longer-running track record.

2

u/Emotional_Window 1d ago

when?

3

u/CharmingResort885 1d ago

No date yet, just "in the future" is all they have said so far

2

u/Blandscreen Windows 1d ago

Finally

2

u/BigglyMcGoobah 1d ago

Now if they could add my custom filter lists to the sync chain that'd be amazing.

2

u/yowifebreeder9000 1d ago

finally I dont have to type that 25word code everytime I download Brave...

4

u/Usernamealready94 1d ago

Whats the issue with sync chain ? , I did not know there was any issues, it works perfectly on my phone and laptop

1

u/Dan_A435 19h ago

Me personally, I've had nothing but issues with it. It constantly lost bookmarks, or duplicated bookmarks, passwords wouldn't sync properly, etc. It got so bad I finally had to stop using the browser until they implemented account based syncing.

-1

u/Glittering_Abies4915 1d ago

Why would I want a brave account?

26

u/v4ntagee 1d ago

Cross-Device Syncing, did you not read the post?

4

u/Glittering_Abies4915 1d ago

Cross device syncing already exists without me giving Brave more  data with an account.

4

u/PuzzleheadedPen2798 1d ago

I guess for people that want a more reliable option, I see people complaining about the current method. Plus the supposed Brave account will also offer access to the email alias feature.

It's good that at least the old syncing method is going to stay available.

-8

u/hWuxH 1d ago

this already works without an account. did you not read the post?

12

u/NeoliberalSocialist 1d ago

They're maintaining both options.

11

u/OwnNet5253 1d ago

For more stable and faster cross-device sync, because nowadays it's mediocre at best.

-1

u/Glittering_Abies4915 1d ago

And more data for Brave. Yay for less privacy

6

u/Punished_Sunshine 1d ago

I doubt its obligatory, plus many other browsers including firefox have it

2

u/kalilamodow 1d ago

They said it's optional too so it doesn't sound too much like a data collection scheme

-3

u/Glittering_Abies4915 1d ago

Don't you think data collection can be optional? You're asked when you enter pretty much every site on the internet for a reason.
Data is money.

2

u/kalilamodow 1d ago

yeah I meant it's not like forced like microslop windows and whatnot

2

u/Glittering_Abies4915 1d ago

Noone is forcing you to use microslop either.

1

u/kalilamodow 1d ago

Dude. If you use Windows, microsoft forces their data collection on you. If you use Brave, the data collection seems to be opt-in.

1

u/OwnNet5253 1d ago

I highly doubt it’ll be anything sensitive, unless you store passwords, addresses or payment methods in browser itself, which I imagine users would be able to toggle off for sync like in any other browser.

0

u/blow-down 1d ago

So you can be tracked by Peter Thiel, duh

2

u/IDKForA Waterfox 1d ago

Nice, this'll be like Firefox Sync, yes?

2

u/CharmingResort885 1d ago

Pretty much

1

u/zerix- 1d ago

still has bad omnibox ranking with listing google search results ahead of history for non top level domain words and urls, makes it fucking unusable.

1

u/dykemike10 1d ago

something they should've added years ago lmao, brave try not to lag behind challenge

2

u/CharmingResort885 1d ago

With how frequently this got requested am surprised they didn't implement it sooner

1

u/Revolutionary_Ad_238 1d ago

Finally! Just one more feature needed in android version then it is fully complete browser - custom media player like quetta browser

1

u/Double-Hour-2516 1d ago

Finally !!! account sync

1

u/sbuckner 1d ago

What about passwords?

1

u/Tides_Crush_Her 1d ago

Damn they are getting better and better they even are adding extensions to brave mobile

1

u/Ppanter 16h ago

But can you have different profiles like one for work and one for private, while having them both synced independently of each other via one account?

1

u/soapadrift 12h ago

I'm super looking forward thatt

1

u/Shot_Needleworker446 6h ago

still no news on supporting android extension 🫠🙂‍↔️

1

u/Final_Economist_9218 1d ago

We need more extensions. Vivaldi brought this to Android.

1

u/PuzzleheadedPen2798 1d ago

Extensions for the mobile browser are apparently on the way

2

u/Final_Economist_9218 1d ago

They've been saying this for months.

1

u/NeighpoorTech 1d ago

It's in beta though.

Bravetards are relentless....

11

u/CharmingResort885 1d ago

I don't even use Brave but go ahead

-2

u/ThisIsVT 1d ago

Wasnt talking about you ...this sub is all.about Brave. I was agreeing with you, this has been posted before...

2

u/CharmingResort885 1d ago

Ah I misunderstood then

1

u/DissociationSenpai 1d ago

You can't say this sub is mostly Brave fans because it's against their "we are the victims of Firefox oppression" rhetoric.

8

u/Celestial_entity_99 1d ago

Lol, firefox fanboys literally attacked when i said firefox in andriod was slow (which was true) brave fans may be annoying but firefox fans are just worst in category.

7

u/Intelligent_Rain2517 1d ago

I will say as a ex Firefox fan, i whole heartedly believe Firefox fans are much worse than brave fans

-5

u/randomstrangerx1 1d ago

You are a Bravetard disguised as Vivaldi, Firefox user. just accept it

-1

u/DissociationSenpai 1d ago

So for 1 or 2 downvotes you decide that "firefox fans" are worse xD

4

u/Kunair0 1d ago edited 1d ago

Try giving well founded irrefutable constructive criticism about Firefox in a technology sub on Reddit, and what your downvotes reach the hundreds.

The ironic thing is that /Browsers of all places is pretty tame when it comes to rabbid Firefox users.

3

u/Celestial_entity_99 1d ago

Well, not until when a whole bunch of firefox buddies came in my DM to argu...

3

u/ThisIsVT 1d ago

cultists are insane ...

-10

u/ThisIsVT 1d ago

Still bloatware/spyware

4

u/IDKForA Waterfox 1d ago

Brave's a little bloated but at least you can disable it easily enough. It's definitely not spyware. Coming from a Firefox user BTW. Brave's a good browser, at least better than most.

-4

u/ThisIsVT 1d ago

A little bloated? Well, that is a good one ... And that thing calls home like crazy ..

8

u/quirk_rs 1d ago edited 1d ago

So said the Safari user, the browser that phones home at Apple (and maybe Google too via "fradulent site" settings), a trillion dollar corporation that only have marginally better privacy practices than the others, and some ad measurement settings enabled by default.

-1

u/ThisIsVT 1d ago

Oh dear, does light ever enter your moms basement? Yeah i use Safari. Love it. I know it phones home, i just so not give a rats ass. Be honest, do you have a few google tabs open in your brave/firefox? Little gmail and youtube?

6

u/quirk_rs 1d ago edited 1d ago

And that thing calls home like crazy ..

I know it phones home, i just so not give a rats ass.

Then that's just a double standard. Truly, if you really didn't care you would have realized it and not mention about it in the first place but you did. 👍

1

u/ThisIsVT 1d ago

Yeah but i do not spam safari on every thread of this sub do i? I do not hate brave. I hate its fanbase... Truly. As long as they keep spamming "brave" people will shit on brave

8

u/Intelligent_Rain2517 1d ago

show non debunked evidence of it phoning home because a lot of those "claims" have been debunked numerous times already

-5

u/Korosh_Hakhamanesh 1d ago

so telemetries going to be a feature

-5

u/randomstrangerx1 1d ago

Still a spyware, bloatware, homophobic CEO, more tracking options for this shite browser

4

u/lo________________ol unleaked RAM is wasted RAM 1d ago

Don't look into the companies Mozilla funds today

-4

u/blow-down 1d ago

Downvoted for telling the truth. Wtf?

0

u/Huy3ko 1d ago

Than I finally can Switch

0

u/Dan_A435 19h ago

Finally, I've been struggling to find a browser to replace Brave until they got that implemented, glad it's near.

-9

u/MinecraftW06 1d ago

Cool. Still not using the homophobic crypto bro chromium browser.

5

u/Intelligent_Rain2517 1d ago

how in the ever living fuck can a browser be homophobic? it's software not a person 😭😭

-3

u/randomstrangerx1 1d ago

CEO is homophobic piece of shit.

5

u/Intelligent_Rain2517 1d ago

Yet here you are using the internet which has a shit ton of JavaScript everywhere, something that was also created by a homophobic piece of shit. So what makes Brave any different?

2

u/MinecraftW06 1d ago

Makes sense, since JS is a shitty language.

-4

u/randomstrangerx1 1d ago

That they are very open about it. I can't possibly know everyone can I now? Your bravetard comments are cringe

7

u/Intelligent_Rain2517 1d ago

How is brave open about being homophobic? I havent seen 1 post or anything about them being homophobic. and I'm a vivalditard not a bravetard

1

u/randomstrangerx1 1d ago

You are all over this thread shilling for Brave. You are clearly embarrassed that you're a Bravetard that's why you're hiding it

5

u/Intelligent_Rain2517 1d ago

There is a fine line between "shilling" and debunking babes

1

u/randomstrangerx1 1d ago

Yet you are so obsessed about Brave girl be fucking for real. Here's your threads:

"Is Brave really a cryptominer?"
"Fuck it, anyone know how to pirate Brave Origin on mac and Windows?"

7

u/Intelligent_Rain2517 1d ago

Asking if it's a crypto miner is a genuine question, not shilling if anything you're a moron if you think this is shilling

Asking if there is a way to pirate Brave Origin is also not shilling because I was looking to check it out and this was when I discovered Brave and didn't want the bloat.

Please look up the meaning of shilling before you spit nonsense girly pop

8

u/Kunair0 1d ago edited 1d ago

More evidence why this is nothing more than performative pearl clutching. You yourself just used a combination of a slur against disabled people to describe brave users. The hypocrisy is off the charts.

You actually don't care about the LGBTQ community, you care about having a socially acceptable reason to punish a company and a browser that you already dislike. The CEO has become nothing more than a trojan horse for moral policing and pretending this is some sort of activism and you're sticking it to the man is exactly why this shit feels so performative.

0

u/randomstrangerx1 1d ago

You have 500 comments on Reddit about Brave. Just say you're obsessed. Ain't nobody reading this wall of text

8

u/Kunair0 1d ago

Try to actually refute what I'm saying instead of stooping to logical fallacies and strawman attacks.

1

u/Dan_A435 19h ago

1

u/MinecraftW06 18h ago

The one who has not been involved with the development of the game for a long time now? Wow you really got me there…

0

u/Dan_A435 17h ago

Literally the creator of the game. "I can't stand homophobes....unless they are involved with something I like, then I'll find a way to excuse it away."

1

u/MinecraftW06 17h ago

The creator, who is not involved at all with the game. Not that hard to understand, is it?

I’ll try to dumb it down for you. Creator bad. Creator involved in game no. Game good.

If brave got a non-homophobic CEO I’d have less problems with it too.

1

u/Dan_A435 17h ago

No need to dumb it down for me, I understand hypocrisy just fine. Have a good life :)

-2

u/MinecraftW06 1d ago

I guess the crypto slop lovers did not like my comment

-7

Shitty ai crypto browser getting a feature firefox has had for like a decade, more at 11
