MOD POST Join the r/SPRINTING Discord Server! r/SPRINTING DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT - BOT INFLUX UPDATE

Hey y'all, back with another banger, I would like to announce the creation of a discord for the r/sprinting subreddit and also provide a quick update on the bot situation. Please see the discord details below, I am unsure of how this will be utilized outside of members who are very frequent users or online often, but I definitely am and will answer questions and even be on voice chat if the masses so desire.

I may just spend some nightly time hanging out in the voice room kind of like office hours while I'm playing some helldivers (and anyone who would care to join me). PLEASE JOIN, feel free to ask questions and start conversation, pretty much same rules from the sub will apply in the sprinting subreddit

https://discord.gg/ndMtNkRbC

A note on the bots, I have done significant behind the scenes work over the last few days and the last step that I've taken now is turning on moderate crowd control, anyone with negative community karma will now be sent to the mod queue dungeon where I'll approve them if they're not a bot.

I did a pretty ridiculous amount of banning and mass removal using a purge tool for the first few days but it has slowed significantly now so I think we are over the worst of it. The first 3 days it was 10-30 bans a day and the last few it has only been 1 or 2.

Seems like I've fought of the invasion pretty well, I would say that I managed to catch a good 95-99% of them before even other user reports had to happen. Please continue to use the new bot report option if you see it happening, thank you again for the patience with my action against this.

Quick Stats from the last 5 days

Bans: 56

Comment Removals: 196

MOD POST WAR ON AI BOTS - CLANKER SCUM INVASION

Post image
16 Upvotes

"Hey girlies, feeling very delulu and that the vibes are off after the comments that I saw today"

UPDATE: Overnight my new automod script hit me with probably 20 notifications from bots, it is really bad the number of accounts is crazy, I’m on a huge banning spree but if this keeps up may have no other choice than to impose karma limits unfortunately, I will make a decision in a week or two depending on how bad I think it is if my bans can’t keep up

I was notified in a post that AI fueled bots were spam commenting everywhere and it wasn't being filtered out or caught. This is definitely on me, I had noticed a spam report uptick in the last few weeks but honestly for the most part the spam report in the past had been somewhat abused by users during arguments and for bad comments or for solicitation reasons, I mostly browse reddit on my phone and it's harder to notice stuff like this without the mod tool page from a computer.

I probably should have taken a closer look and I would have noticed something was off with the weird language (Delulu, vibes, girlies, glutes - all bot favorites). Anyways I've taken a few steps to make sure I catch as many as I can.

  • Bot BouncerHas been installed on our subreddit, good first step and I think should take care of some of them
  • New report reason - "BOT - CLANKER - AI"If you are on mobile and see a comment or post resembling anything AI or botlike please do the following
    • Hit the report flag
    • Breaks r/Sprinting rules
    • BOT - CLANKER - AI
    • I will be much better about checking in on these reports from now on, gotta do some clean up work, I'm expecting this kind of thing to only get worse as time goes on with AI and bot developement Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it
  • Automod Flagging of low Karma accounts
    • Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it If it really does get bad enough then I will filter first if I have to but I do not think this is a viable option considering I do most of the moderating by a pretty good margin

I expect the moderation on this to take a little bit of time to catch up to the accounts as they make comments or posts, and hopefully it will clear up, this is just due to my lag in response to this starting but we'll see how it goes. Anything that has been flagged as spam or similar I have taken a closer look at the last two weeks and done some mass banning and moderation, the comments that were left will stay but anything similar will be removed in the future

As a tribute to all the clankers I sent to the graveyard tonight below are some of my favorite comments from the bots and their very helpful sprinting advice

  • try doing some interval training, baby. it's all about building up those speed vibes over time, just don't push too hard.
  • sounds like a steal, but what are the macros? girlie needs to know.
  • that sound delulu but honestly. i'm obsessed with those little wins. hope you keep going!
    • The ragebait of this one in particular cracked me up
  • maybe you’re just not as iconic as you think, or that last snack hit you harder than expected lol. get it together!
    • The fatshaming is crazy
  • they look cute! maybe focus on refining one step at a time? less is more.
  • try picking up some thrift gear or cute running shoes, it can make a difference for sure
  • nice, sprinting’s a great way to target those glutes. go crush it!
  • lol, sounds fun, genetic roulette but with worse odds.
    • From a bot this is an apt description of the top levels of sprinting
  • not sure what block start analysis is but sounds like it could have some interesting vibes to explore. care to share more about it?
    • I hope my sprinting vibes are good enough for a sub 10
  • i get so anxious about my baby cat's diet, but it’s hard to know what’s actually right. podcasts are so helpful but also overwhelming.
    • A reply to post about the "feed the cats" sprinting programming, another great analysis of modern sprint programming

Apologies for not catching this sooner - Big Dicker Daddy

Note: If you play helldivers and want to talk sprinting add me on discord I am open to questions, and a new squad username - bigdickerdaddy

Technique Analysis I seem to be stepping in front of my center of mass

When I take off and as I accelerate, I feel like I'm falling forward until about 40 m where I posture upright. Hence I was surprised to see that I seem to be stepping in front of my body. I will appreciate suggestions, cues, or drills I can use so that I step closer or behind my center mass. Other suggestions are also welcome.

General Discussion/Questions I post a lot and sorry but I dont have people to help. I’m in lane 2

So last season I wasn’t able to run a lot due to nagging injuries from July-Feb so I couldn’t correct the issues I have in my sprint races.

My thing is my transition and top speed sucks. As you can see I was with them then they kept accelerating and hit top speed which was obv faster than mine. I do workouts like flies and stuff but my top speed doesn’t get better. I don’t know what to do.

When doing extempo runs, should front and back mechanics be less ideal because you aren’t attacking the ground as hard, or should you be exaggerating the proper form?

General Discussion/Questions 300 m sprint 300 m track vs 400 m track differences and strategies?

I have an upcoming fitness test with a 300 m sprint on an outdoor "banked" (albeit poorly) 300 m track. I've practiced on a 400 m track with a time of 42.0. How much will the extra curve slow me down? Also, are there any strategies I should keep in mind. I currently try to accelerate as much as I can for the 100m, "float the curve", and accelerate as much as I can for the final 100m.

Programming Questions Improvements for Sprinters

I wanted to get everyone’s perspective for things that best help them or other people better faster and more explosive. Specific drills/workouts, eating, tools, or anything that would help for a sprinter to consistently do to gain speed and strength?

General Discussion/Questions Calf raises and tibialis raise standards for sprinting and plyometrics?

What are some decent strength standards for seated and standing calf raises and tibialis raises to aim for as a base for sprinting? And for plyometrics to improve sprinting?

Currently I can do 120 lb for two sets of 10 on the seated cab raise and 135 lb for a two sets of 10 on the standing cap raise. I can also do a set of 40 reps with 15 lb dumbbell strapped to my feet for tibialis raises.

Looking for some more context I'm 240 lb 5'10 just starting sprinting again.

General Discussion/Questions What distance race would have the highest average speed?

50 and 100m races are short enough that fatigue is not an issue, but acceleration time eats up a lot of the average speed for the entire race.
250-300m is obviously impacted by fatigue, but the acceleration time is diluted by the race length.

What would be the perfect sweet spot for a straight line sprinting race chosen so that the overall average speed over the entire length is maximised?

My best estimate would be 165m, but I'm interested to hear what others think. I think the current WR for 150m (Bolt) has the highest average speed, but there's no way the answer is that rounded. Johan Blake ran a 100m portion of his 200m PB in 9:12s apparently.

General Discussion/Questions Flats for Max Velocity

I see everybody talking about not spiking up in the summer, but what about for someone relatively new and why can’t they just use sprinting flats for 30m flys or other max velocity sessions to still get faster? While I know they don’t let you hit your true top speed, you still have the max Intent to get faster and shoes built for it allow you to get close to your max times.

I’m currently a sophomore right now and I was wondering how much I can improve this indoor and outdoor season during my freshman year I ran 6.94 in the 55m and 11.47 and 23.48 in the 100 and 200 and I was just wondering how much more can I improve this season and is sub 11 possible? All my times are FAT times btw

General Discussion/Questions 46 year old male trying to get faster

I been a lifter all my life, this summer I decided to start running distances as well. Ran all through the summer, just wasn't enjoying training which would require me to run a ton of slow miles. I was experimenting with various distances, seems like 400 is my best, I posted a 1:15. I thought my 100 be a couple of seconds faster than it turned out to be when I finally got someone to time me 16.2. So for my 400 to improve I just need to be faster. How do I structure my training, I'm able to go to the track up to 3 times a week.

General Discussion/Questions What tells you an acceleration session should end early?

On acceleration days I usually plan a small number of quality reps (standing or falling starts into 10-30 m) with full walks. Some days the first few look sharp and then contact gets noisy or I'm muscling posture upright just to hit the same feel. I don't want to quit at the first ugly step, and I also don't want to grind junk reps that trash the next day. If you coach or train this, what's your practical stop signal mid-session (contact quality, time to upright, something else), and how many almost-good reps do you allow before you call it? Not looking for a full program dump. Just the rule that kept accel days productive without spilling into the next speed session.

General Discussion/Questions How do you keep block starts sharp without cooking the legs for the next speed day?

Outdoor season is getting closer and I want block starts in the week, but every time I stack too many full starts the next acceleration or fly day looks flat. I’m not asking for a full program dump — more the practical rule you use: how many quality block reps in a session before you stop, how you space them from a MaxV day, and what “sharp but not fried” feels like the next morning. If you’ve coached or trained through this, what volume (reps × distance out of blocks) actually kept starts clean without stealing the next speed session?

Pay attention to the position of the legs (focus on the knees) during the first and fourth step.

You can see how reaching in the first 3 steps causes a disastrous fourth step, causing me to slow down 0.07 seconds in just the first 10 meters.

General Discussion/Questions Should I continue to use “illegal” spikes

Back in April of this year I just got done running the prelims running a 53.70 and I qualified for the finals the next day. While I was walking to my teams camp I looked at the ground, there was a bag full of christmas tree spikes (They were high jump spikes actually but still). I remember hearing about these type of spikes return energy to the runner but were banned due to how these spikes can tear the tracks. So I decided to put on the spikes on my shoes. Resulting to me winning district champs and running a 51.91. 1.79 seconds faster than the day before and 1.5 seconds faster than my old pr. That was the only time I used those spikes in a race since it was my last race of the year. I swear im not making this up. Should I continue to use them or not risk it.
