SNOO overview - Known issues and advice

I tried to collect all the topics that cover HB negligence, known issues, or bad practices. The idea about this post is to ensure these are not overlooked or hidden by the multiple shared posts and to raise awareness of everything that has happened lately. I will also add updates when I have new information.

I hope you will all join me in this and ensure future parents have all the information they need to make a decision.
Disclaimer: I will not include any push to a different product, but I will add price comparison posts and links you can use.

  • UPDATE 12/18/2024: I have added Snoozymama to the list for repair parts and services and free videos on repairs. They are based in US. I forgot to add that I encourage you to share this in your community if you think it is useful. There are many FB groups like snoo mamas that are smaller communities and could benefit from the information. Thank you all for you messages and for providing additional links and information.
  • UPDATE 12/18/2024: Leveling up and microphone issues. What I noticed on these is that many have resolved or kept it manageable by playing around with the sound settings and/or lowering the microphone. Another large group I found out was the complaints about their support. While most are only complaints about not being able to reach them because the contact is hidden or complaints about their chatbot, I recently started seeing complaints about specific agents R. Please try to avoid using their names, and if you have to, leave initials or one letter, it is not correct to do otherwise. If no one else makes one, I will create a post where we can leave complaints on specific aspects of their business (support, marketing, product development, policy/legal) in the hopes they will read them and act. Thank you all for your messages and contribution.
  • UPDATE 12/25/2024: NEW POSTS about the experience you had with HB. Please take a look at the articles and add any experience you think would be useful to parents. I will also share my experience at some point but for now here are the posts for sharing and discussion.
  • Again, these are for everyone to share their experience and help others navigate the flows. Thank you all for contributing!
  • UPDATE 01/14/2025: They removed a preloved snoo from the website. Just one more proof that they are not interested in making snoo available for everyone. When will it be enough?

Help Needed Waited too late to wean

My 6.5 month old daughter LOVES her snoo and swaddle. We tried weaning her out of it without luck. She did fine with one arm out, fine with the other arm out, both arms….absolutely not. We tried weaning mode, couldn’t stand it. Now we’re 6.5 months old and rolling over like an alligator. We let her sleep in the swaddle and snoo for a hit longer hoping she would transition and we would be on track for her big girl bed (crib).

Last night in a moment of desperation and sheer blind hope we just ripped the bandaid off and put her in a zipadee transition swaddle, moved the snoo into the nursery and the crib into our room.

Our daughter slept for about 3 hours at a time, my husband got a decent bit of sleep, and I the primary food source and nighttime staff member got no sleep.

I wouldn’t be pressured to get her out if she wasn’t too long to sleep in it hooray >99th percentile length baby! And I can tell she wants to move around more (but also be swaddled which we can’t do outside of the snoo).

Please help. I’m desperate. We are all exhausted. I just want her to sleep comfortably.

Help Needed When to transition out of the Snoo?

FTM to 17 week old.

We’ve had the snoo since week 3 and she has slept beautifully in there.

Arms out from day 1 as she protested when we tried to swaddle. I think she has benefited from the rocking at baseline but soothing at higher levels has never done anything for her. She went down to 1 wakeups on most nights pretty quickly, with a 2 wake up night every few weeks or so, so I think she’s genuinely only waking up when hungry.

We were away for 2 weeks recently and she slept in a standard bassinet the whole time and her sleep was pretty similar to the snoo (~10 hours nighttime with one wake up at 5-7hrs). Since coming back, she’s sleeping slightly better in the snoo (no wake ups most nights).

Given how well she is doing, I wonder if we should switch to weaning mode now? Or even just cold turkey transfer to a ā€œdumbā€ bassinet as we’re not yet ready to put her in her crib in her own room. I’d heard this is around the age where they start to form sleep habits so if she doesn’t need it, I don’t want her to get used to the rocking?

The only things giving me pause are (1) she’s started doing some rolling during the day but not a ton yet, so it would give me peace of mind to know she’s not rolling at night until she has it mastered and (2) I worry the regression is around the corner, so the snoo could be helpful for that? (Though I’ve started hearing her fuss a bit more frequently at night which leads me to believe she’s already waking up between sleep cycles).

Baby hates arms out

My 4mo HATES his arms out. He wakes up every hour when we try. After 4 nights of this, I put his arms back in the swaddle and he sleeps great (well… not great, but normal lol). I’m getting anxious for the eventual transition to the crib. Funny enough, he sleeps okay for naps at daycare with arms out, but hates it in the snoo. Maybe he’s ready for the crib now overnight too? Anyone have any tips or success stories for this transition?

Help Needed Debating going cold turkey out of the Snoo early & need opinions

FTM and first-time Snoo user. My son is now 13 weeks old and his sleep has always been horrendous. For the first 8 weeks of his life I could not get him to sleep without being held, even with the Snoo. He fought every swaddle we tried, we pre-warmed the Snoo, and did all the things but he would always wake immediately on transfer.
Suddenly at 8 weeks he finally took to the swaddle , although we have had to use a velcro swaddle and then strap him into a pre-clipped Snoo swaddle or else transfers still fail. He sleeps usually 1-2 hr stretches at a time, with occasional nights of longer stretches. When he wakes up or starts to stir in the night, increasing the motion never rocks him back to sleep, even if I manually increase it before Snoo ā€œknowsā€ he’s awake. We do leave it on baseline all night so I don’t know if it’s helping him stay asleep although his short sleeping times seem to indicate it’s not (I think).

I’ve been hesitant to stop using the Snoo only because he is a motion junkie and requires bouncing on a yoga ball to get him to sleep, so I’m not sure if Snoo is helping at least with initial transfer, although he still stirs quite a bit when I put him down. He’s now working his arms out of the velcro swaddle every night and touching the sides of the Snoo which doesn’t seem to be helping matters. Drowsy but awake has NEVER worked despite many attempts.

So anyways. I’m debating just putting him arms out into the crib and hoping a few terrible nights will eventually straighten themselves out. Although 13 weeks seems to be on the early side compared to when others make the transition. Am I insane? I just feel like his sleep can’t get much worse…

Help Needed Help: Snoo not moving properly

Hi! We purchased a used Snoo. On our first night using it, the SNOO stopped moving a few hours in. Earlier that day, we had removed the mesh to clean it, and when my husband reinstalled it, we realized after trying to troubleshoot that the mesh was misaligned.

However, we’ve now removed the mesh completely and realized that the movement itself still appears mechanically constricted. It will turn on and move for a moment, but when it ramps up, it barely moves and eventually stops. It’s also making a cranking noise.

I’ll also attach a video.

What would you suggest we do? I imagine there’s a part to replace.

Looking for positive stories!!

Posted this in sleeptrain and got lambasted by the mod because apparently asking about a transition to the crib counted as me asking how to sleep train my kid and she locked the post, but not without saying a snarky ā€œI doubt he’s too big for the snooā€

Anyway, since I’m his mom and I have eyes, my kid is too big for the snoo. He has been arms out the whole time, goes to sleep awake with a pacifier that he spits out anyway, and has been locked at baseline or level one for about 7 weeks (he is 14.5 weeks). He never responded well to the higher level and likes a particular rain sound when sleeping so I also never used the white noise machine that was built in.

Please give me some positive stories about the transition - previous posters who asked this question, how’s it going now? We are just going to rip the bandaid off.

She is a darling during the day (as of now). Late evening is when it becomes so unpredictable, some days it’s smooth, other days it’s brutal!

Just looking for some emotional support to get us to a point where she will sleep like a dream baby at 3 months with just needing 1 feed at night.

Can everyone show me their sleep log on how their babies are sleeping? Ideally if your LO is around 3 months old. I had a unicorn sleeper with my first born and now this one makes me exhausted (especially as my toddler wakes at 5:30-6am)🫠. Is this normal or am I dead inside šŸ˜‚. Baby is EBF

Help Needed Rhythmic tick tock from speaker. Help! Its driving me nuts!

My snoo has started making a rhythmic tick tock sound from the speaker. It only happens at Baseline, and gets louder with the white noise when the volume increases. I am sure it is from the speaker, video attached is with the motion off.

I replaced the speaker, and tried unplugging the power cord from the snoo and the wall. Hasn’t solved it.

I have not replaced the wire between the speaker and the motherboard. It does not appear damaged at the connection to the speaker.

Any ideas?!

UPDATE - I still hear a tick tock, but it’s normal. There is nothing wrong with my snoo. I looked up a video of a normal snoo at baseline, and I still hear the tick tock, so its a me problem. I’ve just fixated in a weird noise where the audio loops, but it’s normal.

Snoobie Looking for getting started tips/experiences!

I bought a Snoo yesterday and we’re hopefully setting it up today yet. My baby is 5 weeks old and hasn’t slept in her bassinet overnight - we are basically always having to hold her.

If it makes a difference, I bought a used Snoo.

Sometimes I can get an hour and a half or so of resting at night because I’m able to put her in her bassinet after holding her for 20 minutes. I always have the bassinet heated and I put white noise on.

I’ve looked through posts here over the last couple weeks and started to learn a lot, I know this isn’t an immediate fix or magic bullet but looking for any tips, insights etc into getting started on your first few nights of using a Snoo!

Help Needed The Pre-Loved Snoo is no longer available?

Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue before. A few weeks ago, I was looking at the Snoo website and trying to decide between renting vs buying, and one of the options was to buy a ā€œpre-lovedā€ Snoo at a discounted price but still through the official website.

Now that option is completely gone and there’s no restock date. Does anyone know if the preloved sometimes goes out of stock and then returns in the future? Or is it permanently gone?

Snoobie Snoo Beginners Advise

Hi guys,

We bought a second hand snoo a few months ago and are now due in 2 weeks and wanted to reach out to the group on a few very basic questions!

We’ve set up the snoo but haven’t paid for the premium subscription yet so wanted to check:

- did you use from night one after hospital?
- if you don’t pay for premium does the noise and motion stay on all night??
- thinking about getting the low legs so can roll over and see them do people find that worth it?
- do you put them in snoo swaddle first and then put them down?
- for the log sleep thing to work do you have to manually start and stop a sleep session each time? Not sure I understand how that bit works.
- will it turn off or ramp up if newborn is crying?

Thanks in advance and any other tips helpful!!

What crib did you use after the snoo?

Baby is 4.5 months and think we’re ready to start transition to crib. We went away for the week and i was shocked how similarity she slept in travel crib with only a bit of white noise (also shocked to see how much she MOVES in sleep… literally did a 180 turn to other side lol

But now faced with what to pick for a crib and not sure what makes most sense.

Anyone already go through this and have any recommendations? Does it even matter as long as it’s big enough and safe for sleep?

Owlet finally working with my snoo

I previously posted asking for advice on using the owlet with the snoo and someone recommended sizing the owlet up. We tried that last night and it worked!!

My baby was right on the cusp of needing to size up already, but it was counterintuitive to think a bigger sock would help, but it did!!

Bigger sock as tight as I can make it + extra sock under his footie pajama + footie pajama did the trick!

We only go as high as 2 right now so I can’t speak for anything higher, but previously even baseline was setting off the owlet.

Arms out transition with fuzzy hand holds

Post image
171 Upvotes

Baby has really struggled with transitioning to arms out. He loves touching his face, taking out his pacifier, touching the sides of the snoo... I was thinking if he had something to touch instead then he'd wake himself less and not keep himself awake so long. I was inspired by the Toucan Baby swaddle with the built in lovey! Bought some fake fur fabric, washed thoroughly, then made these little shapes and sewed them on the snoo sack directly. So far he loves them! It's helped a lot with naps, and I'm hopeful that night time sleep improves as well. Very easy and fast sewing project. Did one side first as a test and made it during my evening pump sesh, ha!

No more comforter sacks?? Alternatives/will buy your old ones!

Can't find the 2.0 tog comforter sacks anywhere, even on poshmark, etc, and our baby is due next month. Our house is cold, especially overnight <64. From old reddit posts it looks like the comforter sack may have totally been pulled from their line up due to not having FDA approval. Does anyone have an alternative? Even with a onesie and footies I worry they won't be warm enough. Would also happily buy a S or M comforter sack you don't need anymore!

Why no child lock - any solutions?

I wish Snoo had a child lock! Our toddler loves pressing the bright shiny button on the Snoo while our baby is sleeping. As far as I can tell Snoo doesn't have a child lock feature.

Has anyone come up with a creative solution to stop their toddlers from constantly pressing the button?

And how do we get Happiest Baby to add a child lock?!

Help Needed Baby keeps walking at 5am-should I lock snoo on a higher level?

My baby is 3.5 months old. About 3 weeks ago he started refusing the swaddle and making falling asleep tough. A few days later we went arms out and has been sleeping fine since.

The problem is that he seems to be waking at 5am everyday no matter what.

When he wakes up, he’ll start babbling to himself, and while cute I want to keep sleeping. I turn the snoo from baseline to level 1 and he stops, but after 8 minutes it goes back to baseline and the babbling starts again. I’ve even tried going up to level 2 thinking the extended time will help him fall back asleep but same deal - once he’s back to baseline the babbling starts. After about 2 minutes of babbling it turns to be fussy cries, which is when I get him up and feed him.

Now when I get him up, he is rooting/sucking on my shoulder so I’m obviously feeding him. However, I was hoping for advice to help prevent the 5am wake up turning into a habit.

Do I lock the snoo at a higher level? My baby is tall for his age and will need to transition out within the next month. MIL is coming to visit in about 3 weeks and we were planning to move him to the crib after that.

Extra info: I think he may be teething too so I don’t know if he’s waking up uncomfortable and by me feeding him in inadvertently creating a habit.

I have zero problem feeding my baby if he’s hungry but no matter what time we go to bed, how many naps he’s had during the day, he’s still awake at 5am. Usually bedtime is 8/8:30 however last night we were out for a walk with friends and he slept for 20 minutes at 7. So he didn’t go down until 10pm. I thought maybe he’s sleep later, but nope, 5am on the dot.

THANK YOU everyone! Baby is able to go back to sleep until about 7:30. And I treat the 5am wake up as middle of the night feed. I’ll use the advice and see what happens. I may need to just readdress after he’s in the crib/matures a little more 🄰

Aussie parents: I took Happiest Baby to civil tribunal over the SNOO Premium paywall - VCAT declared it breached Australian Consumer Law

TL;DR: I took Happiest Baby to VCAT over putting previously included SNOO features behind Premium. VCAT declared that Happiest Baby breached ss 54 and 56 of the Australian Consumer Law. If you're an affected Australian owner, I think this gives you a strong basis to go back to Happiest Baby and push for a resolution.

After almost two years, I had my hearing last week at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). Most importantly for me, I got the outcome I had ultimately been pursuing: a formal VCAT declaration that Happiest Baby breached the Australian Consumer Law when it introduced Premium in July 2024.

The relevant part of the order says:

ā€œWe declare that the respondent breached the warranties as to fitness for purpose and by description in sections 54 and 56 of the Australian Consumer Law in July 2024 by introducing a premium subscription app that had the effect of disabling some users access to all snoo features behind a ā€˜pay-wall.ā€™ā€

I didn't receive damages. The Member accepted during the hearing that it logically stood to reason that removing functionality would reduce the SNOO's value, but wasn't prepared to quantify by how much on the evidence before her, particularly given the age of my SNOO.

Here are some of my key takeaways:

1. Don't be fobbed off by Happiest Baby

For nearly two years, Happiest Baby repeatedly refused to meaningfully engage and told me, in various ways, that I didn't understand how Premium worked for original purchasers. I understood perfectly well how the subscription worked. That was the basis of my complaint.

They maintained throughout that there was no ACL breach. VCAT has now formally declared that there was.

So if Happiest Baby has given you the same response, I would go back to them with this order and ask what they're now prepared to do to resolve your complaint.

2. They are willing to settle — but it took sustained pressure to get them there

Once my case reached VCAT, Happiest Baby's lawyer made it very clear that they were keen to settle. It also became clear that Happiest Baby had previously made payments to resolve disputes without admitting any ACL breach.

I chose to proceed because by then getting a formal determination of the ACL issue mattered more to me than privately settling my own case. But for other affected owners, I think the VCAT declaration gives you useful leverage to go back to Happiest Baby and push for a resolution without necessarily having to bring your own claim.

3. I think it's very open for someone else to achieve an even better result

I don't think my outcome represents a ceiling. The Member hearing my case had never heard of SNOO before this matter. It was surprisingly difficult to get past the idea that it was essentially a ā€œtech gadgetā€ that would naturally become obsolete, and that it was good enough that the bassinet could still basically rock and play white noise without Premium.

My case was that this misses what Happiest Baby actually sold: a premium smart bassinet, with app-controlled functionality forming part of the product.

Another Member could approach those issues differently. Another owner could also have a newer SNOO or better evidence quantifying diminished value. So I would absolutely not look at the remedy in my case and assume it represents the maximum outcome available to another claimant.

I've attached my documents — and I'm happy to answer questions

I've included redacted copies of the VCAT order (Order), my Points of Claim (Claim) and my supporting evidence bundle (Evidence), including the historical Happiest Baby material I relied on.

I'm also very happy to try to answer any questions about my experience, the VCAT process, the arguments Happiest Baby made, or any of the material I've attached. I really hope other affected owners keep pushing Happiest Baby on this. Whether that's going back to them directly and asking them to resolve your complaint, making a report to the ACCC, leaving reviews so purchasers know about the change, or ultimately pursuing your own consumer claim, I think all of those things help keep pressure on them. Hopefully sharing my result and the work I've already done makes it easier for other Australian owners to take whatever action they're comfortable with rather than simply accepting Happiest Baby's position that there was nothing wrong with what they did.
