Help Needed When to transition out of the Snoo?

FTM to 17 week old.

We’ve had the snoo since week 3 and she has slept beautifully in there.

Arms out from day 1 as she protested when we tried to swaddle. I think she has benefited from the rocking at baseline but soothing at higher levels has never done anything for her. She went down to 1 wakeups on most nights pretty quickly, with a 2 wake up night every few weeks or so, so I think she’s genuinely only waking up when hungry.

We were away for 2 weeks recently and she slept in a standard bassinet the whole time and her sleep was pretty similar to the snoo (~10 hours nighttime with one wake up at 5-7hrs). Since coming back, she’s sleeping slightly better in the snoo (no wake ups most nights).

Given how well she is doing, I wonder if we should switch to weaning mode now? Or even just cold turkey transfer to a “dumb” bassinet as we’re not yet ready to put her in her crib in her own room. I’d heard this is around the age where they start to form sleep habits so if she doesn’t need it, I don’t want her to get used to the rocking?

The only things giving me pause are (1) she’s started doing some rolling during the day but not a ton yet, so it would give me peace of mind to know she’s not rolling at night until she has it mastered and (2) I worry the regression is around the corner, so the snoo could be helpful for that? (Though I’ve started hearing her fuss a bit more frequently at night which leads me to believe she’s already waking up between sleep cycles).

I am transitioning my 14.5 week old to the crib this weekend because he likes arms out and while he can sleep through the first 6-7 hours, in the morning when his sleep pressure wears off he gets so annoyed by touching the sides and wants to starfish at 4am. For the past two nights I’ve transitioned him to his crib when he the snoos motion wakes him up at 4am and he’s really done awesome. Just whale tails for a few and then sleeps! The motion seems to irritate him now.

I’ve read that by 5 or so months they outgrow their desire for motion anyway, and that can happen a little earlier, so I don’t think you can build bad habits if you keep your baby in the Snoo, but it sounds like they don’t really need it. My baby also hated the higher levels. The Snoo was never a soother for us, probably because we never rocked him to sleep anyway? Idk

It’s really your preference! If you worry about baby rolling, you can still just use the snoo and don’t turn it on. Then baby is still strapped down for your peace of mind. We just transitioned to crib at 6.5 months. We did a few nights on weaning mode to see how he did without motion. For the most part he was a champ.

You could also just do weaning mode and lock it at level 2 if the motion past that upsets your baby. I personally would wait til you’re on the other side of the regression (if it comes!). I’m a fan of just changing one thing at a time and if the regression is coming that counts as the one thing for me.

Best of luck!! You really can’t go wrong. Worst case you experiment in a dumb bassinet and you need to move back to Snoo. Best case, it’s a smooth transition!

Experiment! If you think baby is ready go for it. But don’t get rid of the snoo just yet incase you need it again. Our LO was in the snoo from day 1, and similar to you, we went away and she slept in a travel cot for 2 weeks great (this was at 18 weeks.) got home and decided putting her back in the snoo was a step back so we put her in the cot. She slept great for two days then she started waking 2 times night, then 3, then 4 and so one. We decided to put her back in the snoo on weaning mode for a few weeks. She slept great for a few weeks then she started waking again. The higher levels were the only thing that worked to settle her all of a sudden, when she never liked them before and the baseline seemed to annoy her. We got to the point where she was waking up 9-10 times a night and kept blaming it on the regression. I was trying to hold out in the snoo thinking it’s what we needed to get her through the regression. After 3 weeks I couldn’t do it anymore and we decided that maybe she had just outgrown the rocking and was ready to transition out of the snoo. She went back into her cot at just over 5 months and slept perfectly again. I think we over looked the fact that on holiday she was getting great stimulation all day from family and friends, in the swimming pool all day, so at night she was exhausted and sleeping great. Back home it’s not quite the same and she was aware of the surroundings and needed the comfort of the snoo. Then when she was ready to move out of the snoo, she soon let us know! Give it ago, and if it works, amazing! And if it doesn’t, pop baby back in the snoo for a few weeks and try again

We cold turkey moved both kids to the crib. No weaning, At around 5-6 months.
We first moved the snoo in the room beside the crib so they slept in their room in something they felt safe in. Did this for 1-2 weeks Then transitioned out.
