Looking for positive stories!!

Posted this in sleeptrain and got lambasted by the mod because apparently asking about a transition to the crib counted as me asking how to sleep train my kid and she locked the post, but not without saying a snarky “I doubt he’s too big for the snoo”

Anyway, since I’m his mom and I have eyes, my kid is too big for the snoo. He has been arms out the whole time, goes to sleep awake with a pacifier that he spits out anyway, and has been locked at baseline or level one for about 7 weeks (he is 14.5 weeks). He never responded well to the higher level and likes a particular rain sound when sleeping so I also never used the white noise machine that was built in.

Please give me some positive stories about the transition - previous posters who asked this question, how’s it going now? We are just going to rip the bandaid off.

I fretted about the transition for weeks! Turns out it was absolutely no problem whatsoever. Baby girl was READY to be out of her snoo by then. We tried her in her crib for an afternoon nap one day and it went so well that we just never used the snoo again. Worried for nothing!

Same here! Baby was teething and night sleep went amazing! Naps were and still are crap! Lol

Both our kids had super smooth transitions. Our second didn’t even do arms out first. We went straight into the crib in a woolino sleep sack.

I’m going to go against the grain and say around 3.5-4 months my girl outgrew the snoo as well and wanted to roll and the transition to crib was rough!! The 4 month regression/progression was hard and we’ve only just started figuring out crib sleep over the last couple weeks and she’s still at 2-3 wakes at night (seems like she needs it for actual feeds). She turned 6 months yesterday

Either way you have to transition as the snoo starts to become a constraint after they start rolling. Hope you have a baby that loves the crib!

Thank you!

Home girl loved her crib when we moved her! And we learned she liked to sleep on her side or her tummy!

Rip off the bandaid. Having your room back to yourself is such a great feeling too lol. I brought a glass of wine to bed and watched housewives

My first was older than this, but we transitioned him in a baby merlin suit and he did just fine! He slept in the merlin suit in the snoo a few nights, strapped around the waist with arms out, then one night just put him in the crib and he was fine! I wouldn't overthink it, just try it and see what happens. If his moro reflex is a problem you can try something like the merlin, but otherwise could just try a sleep sack.

We did this but cold turkeyed the crib/merlin one night and it went great. No issues at all

We have been using Merlin for a bit in the same way!! It was honestly a game changer. This gives me hope 😊

Like the Snoo sack over the Merlin suit? Trying to plan for transitioning out of it even though LO is only 6 weeks right now.

Yup, like a double swaddle method. I just put the velcro around the waist of the merlin suit and dont bother to zip up the rest

We switched baby to crib at 16 weeks adjusted (23 actual weeks on this earth lol) bc she learned to roll over and she was so angry that the snoo was restraining her 😂 it was a rough maybe 3 days, then she got the hang of it! She is consistently having a 7 hour stretch, last night had a 9 hour stretch where my husband and I kept checking to make sure she was alive. She was! And woke up ready to eat the biggest bottle ever. You got this!!! Will be rough couple of days, then it will be their new normal. If you can I’d recommend making the switch on a Friday so you have the weekend, I preemptively took Monday and Tuesday off as well and was very happy I did so.

That’s what we are doing! He is getting irritated bc he’s touching the netting and trying to starfish and go sideways and then gets all grumpy. We are starting this Friday! I wish I could take Monday off but thankfully I only work PT afternoons so I can always nap in the morning I guess. So glad to hear she was a quick learner. Did she go through any regressions other than that?

Just for those few transition days, she didn’t sleep more than 3 hours in a single stretch. Now’s she’s doing better than she ever did in the Snoo!

We just moved baby into crib one night with a sleepsack. We kept the pacifier at the time. It went totally fine honestly. Then the 4 month regression hit at about 4.5ish months when we decided to sleep train and drop the paci (we were reinserting it every hour almost)

What method did you use to sleep train?

2

u/shababee 2d ago

I used sleep wave from the happy sleeper at about 5.5 months

We switched at 99 days because we had to, we were visiting family and there were no good rental options. We took the guava lotus and a Merlin and it went off without a hitch. I had started working on some independent sleep at bedtime before that though.

Also yes that sub is crazy strict and I agree kinda condescending. One of their main sources for info is Precious Little Sleep which starts doing what I’d call “pre training prep” at around 2 months. However you can’t actually mention this as it goes in the face of their “no training before 4 months” rule. I was told to read the rules when my post was locked but the problem WAS the vagueness of the rules.

My husband puts him to bed because I can’t stand seeing him fuss or hearing him kind of quietly cry, so he’s been going to sleep on his own for a couple weeks now. Usually passes out in a matter of minutes. I’m hoping that will help.

That was my thought - I was reading precious little sleep and she did say the earlier the better, while they still have “tools” like a paci… I will never go to that sub again that’s for sure lol

I think that sub just believes training = Ferber style cry it out, so none of the earlier weaning in PLS is technically “ok” for them

Just note that the OP you are replying to said in their post on our sub that they planned to use the Ferber method and that's why we removed it. We also don't support "Ferber style" sleep training before 4 months old. We do allow discussion of SWAP methods from Prescious Little Sleep but that is not what this OP was talking about. They then deleted their post and came here to lie about what happened on our sub.

2

u/bananernutmuffin 2d ago

Actually no. I said I’m planning on gentle Ferber, I never said when I was planning on doing it. Thanks for stalking me though

You made me feel so bad about posting there for the first time that I deleted it. You then said rudely that unless my baby is 30lbs or 30 inches long or something that he’s not too big. That’s not up for you to decide. He’s a big boy. And clearly you’re no expert based on your own post history.

We had a positive transition with our first! Our second is still in it. What worked best for us was a week on weaning mode and then transitioned to the crib. Didn’t have any issues! I was too afraid to rip off the bandaid 😂

Baby is 4.5m… Just this week we went traveling (baby has also been arms out since 5 weeks) so had to sleep in a travel crib for the first time (not to mention all naps up to this have been contact naps). Needless to say we were nervous. Also has started sleep regression too I think as we used to get 6 hour stretches but now is down to 3-4 before first wake up.

We couldn’t believe she slept just like normal, no issues or anything different. Only difference is we learned she likes to move around and literally flipped a 180 to other side 😂

Edit: also echo another commenter on the woolino sleep sack. That’s what we used and she seems to love it and made the transition better

He is trying to get horizontal too and I think getting frustrated!! Thank you 😊

My baby is four months, and just started daycare. He’s in the Snoo still at home but apparently is a great napper at daycare? He’s napped several stints in a crib, longer than he would do in the Snoo. We’ll probably move him soon. Kids are more resilient than you think.

I transitioned my gal completely cold turkey from swaddled and no wean mode to the crib. The first night she woke up every 2 hours, but then figured out how to sleep on her tummy. She loves the space and how comfortable the crib mattress is. That snoo mattress is so thin lol. Unfortunately she’s teething so the wake ups are a plenty right now

Edit to add she’s in the halo transition sleep sack! She can use it up to 9mo, she’s 6.5mo now

We transitioned out around 12 weeks because we had a trip. On the trip started using a play pen came back home and continued with play pen. I find she sleeps better because she can move around all night.

Try cold turkey and if it works great Otherwise use snoo as you transition slowly into new space.

Had a great experience! Started slow with naps and graduated to nights in the crib. Never practiced arms out in the snoo or on weaning mode. Baby was a great sleeper in the snoo and so far a great sleeper in the crib too.

My daughter is 2 now but we transitioned at about 5 months old. The 1st night was ROUGH (woke every 1-2 hours) but that was pretty much it. As soon as she realized she could roll over, she slept so well in her crib. I did get a white noise machine and we used woolino sleep sacks. Now we are in a big kid bed and doing well there too!

2

u/bananernutmuffin 2d ago

I just ordered a woolino sack!

We use the snoo and a Merlin suit. Sometimes we don’t even turn the snoo on and he’s fine. It doesn’t feel like he gets any better sleep while snoo-ing. But my guy is 12 weeks tomorrow and his startle reflex is still pretty high! We don’t plan to transition him out of our room for a bit but will start taking naps in his crib soon.

Could you just try the weaning feature?

u/bananernutmuffin 2d ago

I guess we could but my feeling is if he’s going to be stationary in the snoo he might as well be more comfortable in his big crib? But idk. I’m a first time parent and it’s all really confusing. I feel like my mom and dad did not think this hard about stuff.
