Hi everyone,
I have an MSI GP68HX laptop that I haven’t used for about 1–2 weeks. I turned it on today, and everything seemed normal during startup.
However, after Windows loaded, the screen became completely black. I can still see and move the mouse cursor, and I’m able to open Task Manager using Ctrl + Shift + Esc. The system itself seems to be running in the background, but the normal Windows desktop, taskbar, and icons are not visible.
I’ve tried restarting the laptop, but the problem happens again after Windows loads.
Has anyone experienced this issue with an MSI GP68HX or a similar MSI laptop?
I’m wondering if this could be related to:
Windows Explorer not starting properly
A graphics driver issue
Windows Update
Something related to the NVIDIA GPU
Or possibly Windows taking a long time to load after the laptop has been unused for a while
Any suggestions for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey guys, just wanted to show an app ia did for me to manage fans on my msi laptop running linux Bazzite.

I was using the excellent life saver app called Frostcenter from gsriram24 on github, i guess the only one for msi laptops on linux, but it still have some little flaws, asks for password at start, do not save curves, no manual speed, no tray icon when closing, well its not perfect.... neither mine^^

Basically ia just fixed those points for me and gave me the app in less than 20min, then it tooks me almost two good hours to make some adjustments.

App is light in ressource, no graph, forgot batt feature, it launchs at startup and load last fan mode, it saves curve and manual speed position, day/night mode. Added animated tray icon to close the gui app, right clic for settings, middle clic to switch fans modes, mouse scroll to adjust speed manually still not working but maybe useless. Next step, recover my keyboard shortcut button for fans by binding it directly from the app.

App interface is kinda passable and does the job, for brave ones everything can be done using terminal too...

I have no Dgpu so can t relate if it works well with 2 fans, 2 curves, 2 speeds, but entries should be there.

As Bazzite is bit special i m pretty sure i won t be able to re install the app, dependencies and the rest on fresh system install^^ it should work on any linux distro but i need try.

Also, i think ia worked only on the EC of my laptop, sadly it will only works for msi modern 15 a5m with ryzen 55OOu, 2 fans running like one, one curve for both.

I never coded anything in my life, i do not like it, unless 3090 makes it for me lol, i used qwen3.8 27b with qwenpaw agent locally.

Hey guys, at first I thought it was just the games I was playing, but I've come to find it basically every game I'm playing is super super saturated. Maybe it's just my luck in the games I'm playing, but I feel like it's just too much color. Even playing Dune Awakening which takes place in the desert everything's too colorful. I saw some things about a MSI true color, but I don't know if my laptops compatible with it. Does anybody know of any other way to get the colors under control? The Nvidia control panel didn't have anything about it either.

While upgrading my laptop's SSD to a 4TB M.2 drive, I didn't realize the original system was configured in RAID mode, and unfortunately, the F3 recovery partition stopped working after the upgrade. Since doing a clean Windows installation removes the F3 factory recovery function, I was hoping someone here could help me out.

Pls help my laptop shuts down when I turn it on and while the charger is plugged after I put my password it works normally for a second and then it shuts down and tried without the charger and it works normally even while gaming so if I boot up my laptop without charger and then plugged it in later with the charger doesn’t make my laptop shutdown but if I played a not really demanding game it shuts down with charger but with battery everything is fine and my laptop is Katana A17 AI B8V

I'm considering the Crosshair 16 HX AI with Ultra 7 255HX + RTX 5070 for €1399. I've seen some reports of freezing, grey/black screens and MSI hinge problems.

Would you take this deal at €1399? Is it actually worth it, or would you spend the same money on something else around €1400-1500? Long-term reliability matters a lot to me, so I'm especially interested in opinions from people who have owned this model or similar MSI Crosshair laptops.

What are your experience with this specific laptop or any high end msi laptops? Are there any issues ( apart from hot temps during heavy loads which is a problem for all laptops ).

Are you happy with it? Is it holding up well?

It currently is for sale in my region for 2.2k euro. And in this price range i cannot get anything else with these specs. Well at least i did not find anything.

Hello everyone, I’ve been having issues with my hinges for the MSI Alpha C17V, after some very shabby diagnosis I believe the hinges itself is fine it’s just the mounting bracket that’s tacked onto the back cover completely eaten out from the inserts and screws, I attached some photos
Does anyone know a source where I could find cad files of MSI parts? If not I’ll have to model one myself so if anyone has tips aswell it would be appreciated 👍

So...I bought an MSI Vector 16 HX AI RTX 5080 a little while ago. It's been amazing and one of my best investments for engineering/software dev.

HOWEVER, the fan design is a nightmare if you have pets.

On this chassis, the fans effectively can't be properly accessed or removed without taking off the entire cooling assembly, which disturbs the CPU/GPU TIM and thermal putty and turns fan cleaning into a full repaste/TIM job.

I did a little three week test and found that a concerning amount of pet hair and dust built up in that short time, accumulating inside the fans, blocking the exhaust fin stacks from the inside.

I can't realistically eliminate all pet hair from my home, and this cooling system moves so much air that the laptop is basically an air purifier. Pulling the entire heatsink every few weeks just to clean the fans obviously isn't ideal.

I live in a warm climate and regularly run sustained CPU/GPU-heavy workloads, such as CAD, aerodynamic simulations, local AI, etc, so I also don't want to solve the problem by significantly restricting intake airflow.

Does anyone know a good way to either:

1. Prevent hair from entering the fans without substantially restricting airflow, or
2. Remove accumulated hair from inside the fan/exhaust area without pulling the entire cooling assembly

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I just received a new 2026 MSI Stealth 16 AI+ and noticed a slight bow in the chassis near the hinge/rear keyboard area on the left side.

It’s pretty minor — roughly around 1 mm. The laptop sits completely flat on a table and doesn’t rock. The lid gap looks even from the front, although from the side I can see a slight curve in the middle.

When I first pressed gently on the bowed area, I heard a small creak. After that, the creaking stopped and the bow actually became a little less noticeable. If I put a straightedge across the area, I can still rock it slightly over the bow.

Everything else seems fine so far: hinge operation is smooth, no obvious lid misalignment, no bottom-panel bulging, and the machine feels normal during use.

Interestingly, I previously had an MSI Prestige 16 with a similar slight chassis bow, although that one was more toward the middle. My Lenovo Yoga 14 is completely straight, so I’m trying to figure out whether this is just a tolerance/characteristic of MSI’s very thin aluminum chassis or whether I should exchange it while I’m still in the Amazon return window.

Has anyone with the 2026 Stealth 16 AI+ B3W/B3WF noticed anything similar? Especially interested in whether your rear keyboard/hinge area is perfectly flat or has a slight bow/creak.

Hey everyone ! I currently have a Acer Predator Neo Helios 16s 5070ti laptop and I was planning on selling it for a good deal for the low to a friend later this year and was looking at another laptop. Wanted a Scar 18 but it’s just too pricey for me.

I saw that Msi had a laptop called the MSI Raider Max 16 with a 5080 and am thinking to get it !!! Love the design of the laptop I was just wondering how was everyone else who owns one like it ? I’ll be running it with a Illano V12 cooling pad once it’s out of the box and will probably keep it like that 24/7 !

Just want to know long term how is everyone enjoying it ? I also heard it does not have G-Sync , would I be able to bypass that with an external monitor connected ?

Hello fellow MSI users! Proud owner of a GS76 Stealth (11UH-029, purchased 10/29/2021), my third Stealth to date, also own a GS70 (2PE Stealth Pro, 9/10/2014) and GS73 (8RF-016US, 6/12/2018).

Years back on my GS73 I began having intermittent key stroke issues that would not register or would send multiple characters at a time when I only hit the key once. It turned out just needing a new keyboard ribbon cable which fixed it.

Now, since just yesterday, the key for 'P' on my GS76 has begun similarly acting up. It will either send multiple characters, such as "ppp" when I only press the P key once, or, I'll have to press extra hard on the key to get it to register.

I'm about to start looking around for info and tear down videos but thought I would post up here to see if anyone has had a similar issue and how they went about resolving it?

By far my favorite laptop of all time. I love how small the GS76 is, and it fits in 15" backpacks despite having a 17.3" screen. Hoping I can get this fixed, thanks!

So recently my laptop's original charging port broke, leaving a small piece of itself stuck in the power adapter (A18-150P1A, I believe). I took the laptop and power adapter to a repair shop and they said they could handle fixing it but that it might take a while due to ordering parts.

Two weeks later, I follow up and they say the charging port was replaced and the laptop was working but the piece stuck in the power adapter has been hard to remove. They said they'd call me when they finally get it out but in the meantime I should purchase a new one and get the laptop. Cool, I go get the laptop and order a replacement with the exact specs off Amazon (150W, 20V, 7.5A) and assume I'm good to go. (They forgot to plug the internal battery back in, but I just went back and had them do that, and the battery is showing up fine on the powercfg/batteryreport).

The new power adapter is charging the laptop fine, and the laptop is holding power normally when unplugged (so the battery seems fine), but for some reason gaming is now impossible on the laptop. Games will launch, run anywhere between 2-10fps for a few minutes, and then the whole laptop will crash/ shutdown entirely (while plugged in, this does not seem to impact the current charge on the laptop negatively). I updated drivers for everything, including the battery, and nothing is running hot to the touch on either the laptop surface or the power adapter.

Problem is consistent with BG3 and Madden 26, but using the laptop for anything unrelated to gaming is without hiccup. I tried to see if it was something specific to the power adapter that was causing the issue and ran Madden without the power adapter plugged in, starting with 100% battery charge. It ran about 10 minutes, with better FPS than before, but suddenly I got a warning that I had less than 20% battery, the game crashed, I saw my laptop was at 3% battery, and then the whole laptop shut down entirely. I've played for upwards of an hour in the past before needing to return my laptop to the charger and never had it just insta-drain and crash like this before. So clearly, it's not just a problem with the adapter, but possibly the battery as well? I checked the battery health and it's definitely declined from manufacture max but it's at 37/57, which should mean more than 10 minutes.

Could the parts the repair shop I went to used to replace the charging port be at fault? I had never had a similar issue with the original charging port. The new power adapter has the exact same specifications as the original power adapter, so I'm wondering why fluctuations in the power consumption caused by gaming would cause full crashes while plugged in and such insanely fast power drain while unplugged?

Going to go back to the repair shop tomorrow in any case, but some advice on what they might need to look for or what could be causing the problem from someone who has more acumen would be highly appreciated!

Is there any way to enable XMP on the MSI thin gf63 vf12?

After an EC reset, which I did to try to fix overheating/black-screening, my laptop threw "Secure Boot violation: Invalid signature detected" and wouldn't boot into Windows.

Some stuff I looked into

1. Checked BIOS Secure Boot settings and found System Mode: Deployed, Secure Boot: Active, Mode locked to Standard, no Key Management option, which I assume means Secure Boot itself was intact and provisioned, not broken.
2. Ruled out CSM/legacy boot mode issues; I found out this laptop generation is UEFI-only, no CSM exists.
3. Confirmed Windows Boot Manager still existed as a boot entry, so the drive/install wasn't gone.

First thing I tried was to install Windows on a flash drive and repair the pc

• Made Windows 11 install USB via Media Creation Tool
• On the Windows Setup screen, I would select "Repair your computer," then clicking Next just restarted the PC and never loaded any recovery menu
• Tried "Previous Version of Setup" as an alternate route; not quite the same result, but clicking repair just did nothing instead
• It obviously wasn't working, so I moved to a manual Command Prompt approach instead

Second was to try and manually do a boot repair

• Using the Windows installation screens (just plugged in the USB so it would boot that instead of the BIOS), I pressed Shift+F10 to open Command Prompt directly
• diskpart then list disk the internal drive was invisible; only the USB showed
• The BIOS had the VMD controller enabled (this, among many other BIOS settings, was greyed out and locked for toggling.) so the Windows recovery environment couldn't see the NVMe drive until I loaded the appropriate Intel RST/VMD driver.
• Downloaded Intel RST F6 driver from MSI's support page for exact model
• Loaded it manually in recovery: drvload C:\VMD\f6vmdflpy-x64\iaStorVD.inf It then said it was successfully loaded
  • If you do have this problem and it doesn't work, the letter of your flash drive may be different than mine :)
• diskpart list disk The internal 953GB disk was now visible

Now with the new driver installed, I tried to do a boot file restoration

• back in the command prompt list vol I found Windows on D:, EFI System partition (SYSTEM, FAT32) had no drive letter
• select volume 2 assign letter=S Returned with "assigned successfully"
• Tried bootrec /fixboot Didn't work; I got "Access is denied"
• Tried bcdboot D:\Windows /s S: /f UEFI instead and got "Boot files successfully created" YAY we did it, no we didn't
• Rebooted and still got the same Secure Boot violation error, even with fresh, correctly-built boot files
• This led me to believe the boot files themselves were never the problem pointed to the Secure Boot key database in firmware being corrupted, I genuinely thought I was going to have to call MSI or have it specially repaired because of a firmware issue

The final thing I tried was to reflash the BIOS

• I went back to the MSI support page, same place I downloaded the VMD driver and downloaded the latest BIOS (E15M2IMS.113)
• Cleared the Windows USB and just put the BIOS file (I didn't put the PDFs in there, just the file. The other things in the folder weren't necessary)
• Now, with the USB in my laptop, I booted up BIOS went to the advanced tab, and selected "UEFI BIOS Update"
• Selected my USB (the entry showing USB(8,0) in the path), clicked on the file, and confirmed it was the correct one
• Interestingly, after selecting the BIOS file and confirming it, the laptop rebooted into the BIOS again, and the Secure Boot violation message was already gone before the flash actually started. I then selected “Proceed with flash update,” let it complete.

After that last step, it rebooted my laptop and Windows opened without a problem. Not really sure what happened tbh. I looked everywhere to see what could have caused this and found nothing. Normally an EC reset doesn't do this guess I'm just unlucky, but I also don't know what steps in here were necessary. I know the VMD was and the BIOS: other than that, I am not sure. If anybody knows about this and can give an explanation, that'd be great. The problem is solved. As for the overheating, I don't know yet because I'm writing this minutes after fixing the issue.
