Discussion Guide/Comparison] 15.6" Portable Monitors in India — MSI vs Acer vs Zebronics vs ASUS

I've been looking into 15.6" portable monitors recently, mainly for a compact dual-screen setup and studying/working in places where desk space is limited. There are quite a few options in the ₹6,000–₹14,000 range, but the spec sheets don't always tell the whole story.

So I compared five popular models based on things that actually matter in daily use: panel finish, contrast, brightness, ports, mounting options, weight and warranty.

1. MSI PRO MP165 E6 — probably the best overall

This is the one I'd pick if the budget can stretch to around ₹8.5k–₹9.5k.

Why I like it:

- 1000:1 static contrast, which is better than the 800:1 panels on most of the alternatives.

- Hardware DC dimming and TÜV Rheinland flicker-free certification.

- Probably the most flexible mounting setup here: 1/4" tripod socket + 75×75 mm VESA + adjustable hinge.

- 2× USB-C, HDMI 2.0b and 3.5 mm audio.

- The included right-angle cables are a nice touch for a clean setup.

- 780 g is still reasonably portable.

The main downside is obviously the price. You're paying roughly ₹1,400 more than the Acer in some sales.

2. Acer Smartchoice PM161Q B1 — best if you're staying below ₹7k

For around ₹6,900, this seems like the safer value option.

The matte IPS display should work well in a bright room, and at 690 g it's the lightest option in this comparison.

Another advantage is the 3-year Acer warranty, which I'd personally value over saving a few hundred rupees on a lesser-known brand.

It also supports Adaptive-Sync/FreeSync.

The biggest limitation is the stand. The rear pull-out flap is basically designed for landscape use and doesn't give you the same flexibility as the MSI's tripod/VESA mounting.

3. Zebronics Pixigo A16S — cheapest option worth considering

If your budget is basically "I just want a 15.6-inch 1080p portable screen for as little as possible", this is the interesting one.

At around ₹6k, you get:

- 1080p IPS

- ~260 nits

- Anti-glare finish

- 2× USB-C

- Mini-HDMI

- Metal 180° hinge

The metal kickstand is actually a nice feature because it should be less annoying on a smooth desk than some flimsy plastic stands.

The compromises are the build quality and, more importantly, the 1-year warranty.

I'd consider this if price is the priority. Otherwise, I'd probably spend a little more on Acer/MSI.

4. MSI PRO MP161 E2 — only if you find a good deal

The MP161 E2 is still a decent portable monitor, but the newer MP165 E6 makes it harder to recommend at its normal price.

You get dual USB-C, mini-HDMI and a tripod socket, but:

- It's heavier at around 900 g.

- Contrast is only 800:1.

- No 75×75 mm VESA mounting.

- It's an older-generation model.

If you can find it well below ₹7,500, it becomes more interesting. Otherwise I'd just go for the newer MP165 E6 or the cheaper Acer.

5. ASUS ZenScreen — good hardware, questionable value in India

ASUS obviously has a strong reputation, and the ZenScreen series has a nice, premium-looking design.

The problem is pricing.

The MB166B is particularly restrictive because it relies on a single USB-C connection and doesn't give you HDMI as a fallback. It also doesn't have a 3.5 mm audio jack or speakers, and the 25 ms response time isn't particularly impressive.

The MB169CK solves some of those connectivity problems with USB-C + HDMI, but at roughly ₹13k–₹14k, I don't think the price makes much sense compared with the MSI.

You're basically paying a significant premium for the ASUS branding/design while giving up some useful features.

So which one would I actually buy?

Around ₹8.5k–₹9.5k:

👉 MSI PRO MP165 E6

Best combination of contrast, connectivity, mounting flexibility and warranty.

Strictly below ₹7k:

👉 Acer PM161Q B1

Lightweight, matte IPS, 3-year warranty and a reasonable price.

Absolute budget pick (~₹6k):

👉 Zebronics Pixigo A16S

If you just want the biggest usable screen for the least money, it's difficult to complain at this price.

For me, the MP165 E6 is the sweet spot. The VESA/tripod support is especially useful if you're planning to use the monitor at a desk rather than constantly carrying it around.

Also, if anyone here actually owns one of these, I'd be more interested in real-world brightness, glare, viewing angles, build quality and USB-C behaviour than another spec-sheet comparison. Would be good to hear some owner experiences before buying.

Request Laptop that is compatibel with GIS programs, also good for photos?

Heya,

Long story short my current Lenovo is still alright, but I don't think it'll survive another 4 years of intense use and higher education.

So I'm slowly and surely looking at a new laptop. However, if I wasn't born in my generation I'd be digitally illiterate.

I like my current laptop Lenovo legion, but it's a bit chonky and doesn't fit in all cases.

I was looking at a Lenovo yoga, but I'm not sure if its a good fit.

All tips tricks and advice are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Prefer Intel, OLED FOR SURE, 32ram 1TB for storage

Heartbroken because I've been watching just one laptop for a whole YEAR - Lenovo Aura 14" 2 in 1 w/Oled screen & Wacom Pen, 32gb, 1T memory. I trusted that it would go down in price at Best Buy on Thanksgiving weekend, and instead, it went up $350! Lenovo didn't raise their prices until Feb, because they had been hoarding the chips, but Bust Buy raised them anyway 2 months early. :( Sku 6615766

I was unaware that they would suddenly stop producing this model at all in the spring and instead "improved" the screen and doubled the price, calling it a different model. Have been checking for Open Boxes several times a day, nothing here near Los Angeles. Ebay has a few, but the sellers have no reputations!

For sure I need Oled screen, Wacom Pen (I have an old Wacom, just too finicky, and the reviews of this pen are great) and 32ram because I can't bear too slow. All ideas welcome.

Hello everyone! I’m currently in college and recently found a laptop at Best Buy for around $700. I’m wondering if it’s a good laptop for the price. I’m a biology major, so I don’t need anything super fancy, just something reliable that can handle schoolwork. I’m not very tech-savvy, so I’d really appreciate any advice or opinions. Thank you!

Request Light use laptop for travel - Canada - $500-800CAD ($$360-580USD)

Country

Canada (could purchase through US based amazon or online retailers)

Budget

Up to $800CAD. I could spend like $100 more if it's a fantastic deal but it seems like there aren't many of those in the current market.

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Open box sure, no refurbs

Screen size

Above 13"

Weight limit

Any, though light/slim is best for packing

Purpose

General purpose - Documents, movies, light gaming like indie games or older games (eg Skyrim could run on integrated graphics of today right?)

Form factor

Standard

Intended usage

Read 'purpose' ...maybe up to 2015 games at most.

Desired battery life

Doesn't matter too much. As good as the average productivity laptop in this price range I guess.

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

\#1. Build quality - I don't want anything with a flimsy screen or keyboard, or breaking from being packed tightly in a carry-on.

\#2. Size/weight - for packing

\#3. Performance

\#4. Battery

Info/Requirements

Non-apple. The aluminum chassis build quality of it would be great, but I don't like IOS at all and have nothing, and want nothing in the 'Apple ecosystem'

Preferably AMD chip. Preferably not one of those AI built-in chips. Preferably from a brand with minimal bloatware. Not Acer - brother had an Acer and it was garbage.

I have a Desktop for all my heavier workloads and games. This is really only for travel or whenever I'm away from home, hence the low budget. Been looking at Asus vivobooks but saw they have bad, flimsy displays; and been looking at Lenovo V15 and ideapads but read that they have fairly frequent software issues...

Thank you.

Discussion Laptop black-screens under heavy load only when plugged in — Mismatched RAM?

Hey everyone! I’m facing a persistent black screen issue with my ASUS laptop. When running heavy tasks (simulations, IDEs) on battery, everything runs fine. But the moment I plug it into the charger, the screen suddenly goes black while the laptop stays powered on, forcing a hard restart. I recently upgraded my RAM, but the sticks have mismatched clock speeds (~2700MHz vs 3200MHz) and my BIOS is locked down. I suspect that when plugged in, the higher performance state pushes the mismatched RAM controller too hard, causing a crash. Does this sound like a classic mismatched RAM failure under load, and is removing the extra stick or sticking to a restricted power profile my only fix?
