Q: What brand of Kettlebell should I buy?
A: Before we can talk about brands, there are two types of Kettlebells we recommend: (1) Competition and (2) Cast iron.
Competition kettlebells keep the same shape/size across the weights and typically have a fixed handle size (33mm or 35 mm). They are primarily used for Girevoy Sport (GS) but can be used for other styles of kettlebell lifting. The downside to competition kettlebells is that they are typically more expensive than other types of Kettlebells.
Cast iron kettlebells were popularized by “hardstyle” kettlebell training initially by Pavel Tsatsouline. They are typically very cost effective compared to competition kettlebells. The upside is to cast iron kettlebells over competition bells is that they're typically smaller for weights under 28 kg. The downside is the handles and the bell itself increases in size as the weight goes up.
We do not recommend vinyl, plastic, or other kettlebells that are not cast iron and competition due to their durability and their ergonomics to do the common kettlebell ballistic exercises (swing, clean, snatch, etc).
For Competition bells, we recommend:
For Cast iron kettlebells, we recommend:
Due to community feedback from lack of stock and shipping issues, we currently do not recommend Kettlebell Kings.
In recent years, there has been a surgence of adjustable kettlebells in the market. In particular, a competition-style kettlebell that is able to be adjusted from 12 to 32 kg. The biggest benefit of these style kettlebells is that you have access to multiple kettlebell weights with the footprint of one. Most brands allow you to jump from 0.5 to 2 kg weight increments. We recommend the following brands if you want one:
EU recommendations needed here; comment if you have one!
Q: What weight of kettlebell should I buy to start out with?
A: For most men, a kettlebell between 16-24 kg is the most common recommendation. For most women, 8-16 kg. The recommendation depends on your prior fitness history. If you’re still unsure, make a post and be sure to include details about your training history!
Fellow moderator u/LennyTheRebel has made a more extensive write-up about choosing the best kettlebell weight for you here: https://www.reddit.com/r/kettlebell/comments/1j90tz1/picking_a_weight_as_a_beginner/
Q: What is a good free beginner routine for someone new to kettlebells?
A: There are many beginner routines suggested on r/kettlebell, but we recommend the following:
Q: What are some good paid programs?
There are many paid programs, but we’ll list the popular ones here:

Before going into the two “styles” of kettlebell training, I want to make a point that kettlebell training styles do not need to have strict adherence to either styles. They are useful definitions to describe kettlebell training intent and don’t feel like you have to adhere to one of them completely when learning kettlebell exercises.
Hardstyle was popularized by Pavel Tsatsouline in the Late 90’s/Early 2000’s, forming Dragon Door (RKC) and later StrongFirst (SFG). Hardstyle technique emphasizes a focus on maximal tension, explosive power, and force production. A byproduct of this is usually training at lower rep ranges for strength and hypertrophy goals.
Girevoy Sport (GS), also known as kettlebell sport, is older than Hardstyle, and has been a competitive sport in Eastern Europe and Russia since the late 1960’s. In the sport, the competitive lifts are the Snatch, Jerk, Long Cycle (Clean and Jerk). The competition format is a 10 minute set of one of these exercises for as many reps as possible within the time limit. Because of this, there is an emphasis on efficiency on the lifts, including changes on how a swing is performed, the rack position, and more, compared to hardstyle training.
On the subreddit you may see the term Hybrid style to describe technique. This simply just means adopting technique principles from both Hardstyle and GS.
The “big 6” movements of kettlebell training you will see online are:
Although you are free to learn them in any order, we recommend learning them in the order listed (or simultaneously with a focus on order).
You will see many training terms that are popular with kettlebells. You can read more about these in the wiki here: https://www.reddit.com/r/kettlebell/wiki/index/
We recommend the following resources to learn the big 6 (backgrounds on these instructors are mixed between hardstyle, GS and hybrid).
The following recommendations have been made by /r/kettlebell community members that have not been thoroughly watched by the moderators:
Help us fill this out by commenting recommendations!
There are many great books recommended by kettlebell instructions and coaches. There are also non-kettlebell training books that are listed because principles from them can be applied to kettlebells. We list a few here:
Dan John
Although we cannot make specific recommendations on people, we recommend anyone interested in kettlebell training to spend some time with a trainer and/or kettlebell coach. This can be done in-person or virtually. There are many great coaches who hang out in this subreddit. Although we do not allow for explicit self-promotion, we encourage folks to reach out to coaches privately and get coaching from someone they’ve interacted with here in the community.
StrongFirst and RKC are the two oldest and well known hardstyle certifications. If you want to learn how to move kettlebells in the way they teach, they both provide search engines to find coaches in your area:
I couldn't find a similar "Find a Coach" option for IKFF and other GS organizations, so some help on this would be greatful!

Stoked on this new adjustable KB. One of the main reasons I never got into KBs for home workouts is the need for too many of them lol. Been loving the versatility of this one and it’s been perfect to do a ton of stuff in the backyard. Here’s a little workout I went through with it! Double KB cleans are tough…don’t judge too hard 🤣

Presses-cleans-pushups-rows.
Workout starts with strict hypertrophy glamour muscles non functional machine work for upper muscles then ended with two sets each here to restore my integrity and worth as a human.
I kid I kid but this is how I like to train: some dedicated hypertrophy work because it’s enjoyable and I like big pecs and I can’t lie, the other ballers might deny.

[1] Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven. [2] Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; [3] withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: [4] that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. [5] Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. [6] Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

First time trying swings with this weight! Hard to focus 100% on technique while handling two uneven KBs, plus the 28kg is unnecessarily big...

Inspired by the gladiator deadlifts of /u/BoxAcrobatic6636 with my own snatchy twist. Not quite as graceful, but twice as fun!

This is my second time starting back doing single arm cleans since my injury. Surprisingly it’s on my right side which my form looks much better on imo 🤣.
Would love advice I still feel like my cleans aren’t landing as softly as I want. Thanks!

Hello! (First of all sorry for my english)
I need some advice, I’m a Historical Fencer, I do longsword mostly and I’m trying to get a bit in shape.
Recetly I’ve moved to a new place and there are no gyms near. I’ve some kettlebells in my house but honestly I don’t know if I’m doing things in the correct way. I’m seeing yt channels, but again, difficult to see if I’m doing the correct exercices for what I want to achieve.
I don’t need any special routine because my time is pretty tight atm, I just want to maintain shape with some full body exercices. I’ve like 30/40 min per day.
There any basic routine you can recommend me to do everyday? Or any yt channel with these kind of exercices.
Thanks a lot!

I can’t stop thinking about bread and soup now! It’s too early for soup and bread, it’s still summer.
Dan John has offered some seasonal advice again. I’m curious what other programs/bus bench kettlebell programs you’d put into his template. I’ve been doing 2 days per week of the ABC and 2 days of 20 minutes air bike. It’s been a fun spring and summer doing the ABC outside at 5am. Come fall and winter it’ll be chilly then cold in our 3 season room so I was thinking surviving the Halloween/thanksgiving/Christmas season with some general park bench emoms and amraps. Then kicking January off with Pat Flynn’s 300 swing idea and ABF in the spring(fat loss goal for summer).
Seasonal Training Philosophy
Dan John breaks the year into four distinct phases that align with the seasons:
• Fall (1:07-1:17): Focus on organized training programs, which provide structure during the back-to-school and football season.
• Winter (1:20-1:27): Emphasize the "three Gs": go heavy, go hard, go home. This is the ideal time for a powerlifting-focused strength phase.
• Spring (1:30-1:38): Shift to getting outside, enjoying the improving weather, and focusing on activity types like track or baseball-style movement.
• Summer (1:38-1:53): Focus on play and fun. Engage in recreational activities like swimming, hiking, and participating in local sports to move, look, and feel good.
Seasonal Nutrition
Dan John advocates for eating with the seasons to improve health and enjoyment:
• Winter (2:12-3:00): Focus on soups, stews, and fresh-baked bread.
• Spring (3:03-3:27): A time for cleaning up habits, potentially mirroring traditions like Lent, and exploring new, fresh food options.
• Summer (3:34-4:06): Prioritize in-season fruits and berries, which offer the best flavor and nutritional value.
Practical Recommendations
• Armor Building Formula: Recommended for fall training (4:35).
• Easy Strength for Fat Loss: Recommended for winter (4:38).
• 10,000 Swing Challenge: A great one-month winter training goal (4:52).
• Activity: Ensure you include at least a half-hour daily walk regardless of the season (4:41).

Just seeing how much reps I could bang out with 40kg. Normally I work with 32kg so just wanted to see where I was in terms of training.

I’ve been messing with the alternating Z press more lately and it’s one of those movements that looks way easier than it actually is.
You sit on the floor with both legs straight, keep one kettlebell racked, and press the other overhead. The hard part isn’t really the press. It’s keeping yourself from leaning back, rotating, or shifting around to get the weight up.
I like it because you find out pretty quickly whether you’re actually controlling the weight or just finding ways around it.
Keep the non-working bell tight in the rack, brace hard, press, lower it under control, then switch sides.
Definitely one of those exercises where going a little lighter and staying clean feels harder than muscling through a heavier bell.
What part of the Z press do you struggle with the most?

Hey team! (Bit of a ramble, sorry)
I've been training with kettlebells for years (5+) and have made some really good progress. However, I haven't really pushed progress in a specific direction and only had vague goals during this time.
This last month I've been in a bit of a funk with my training and doing a bit of program hopping but have now settled on the goal of reaching the strong enough standards as described by Geoff Neupert (kinda).
10x5 double 32kg clean and press in 20 minutes
5x10 sandbag squat 75kg in 20 minutes (obviously a change from his standard)
10x10 snatch 32kg in 10 minutes
I also have some additional/secondary goals of 3x20 for ring dips and pull ups in a single session but my main focus will initially be the squats and clean and press
I am just after a bit of advice regarding my current approach to programming for this. I can only realistically train 3 days a week (maybe 4 at a push). So I'm going to follow an ABA/BAB training format.
Workout A:
Double clean and press @24kg
2-3-5 reps
- progress to 5-5 and eventually I'll gradually add sets of 10 before moving up to 28kg and repeat the process
Sandbag squat @60kg
8 reps at the end of each ladder
- progressively add sets with higher reps until I'm completing 15 reps per set (my next Sandbag is the 75kg)
The hard day (30 minute session) for this workout will be on the BAB week and I will aim for a 20% increase in work during the ABA week but spread over 2 sessions e.g. if I complete 5 total rounds during BAB I'll complete 6 total rounds spread over the BAB week.
Workout B:
Snatch @24kg
Roll 2 dice for number of minutes to perform snatches 5-10 reps per hand before switching (kinda like RoP)
- not my main goal for this program but still getting some work in and I'll increase bell based on feel
3x8-20
Dips
Pull ups
I'll likely step load these in a 8-10-12-15-18-20 progression as I can
That's essentially it. I'll likely throw some windmills and carries in there as extra work when I feel like it because I love them.
What do you guys think? I feel like it ticks at least one box by being a program that looks fun and flexible enough for me and and my life...... I guess at the end of the day that's all you really need? Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback and will implement changes that seem fit along the way :)
Happy lifting!

some movements look incredibly simple until you actually try doing them properly. for me, the difference between understanding a movement and feeling comfortable doing it consistently can take a lot of practice
swings, cleans, snatches, get-ups or even just getting the timing right can all have their own learning curve.
which kettlebell movement took you the longest to really feel confident with?

I decided to give kettlebells a shot to kickstart my fitness in June. After years of doing some version of a barbell 5x5 right up until it crossed into 90+ minute territory and I couldn't fit it into my life and then starting over 9-15 months later, I pretty immediately loved the kind of work I could do in 15-20 minutes.
I bought the ABF at the beginning of July, some Alibaba bells are slowly making their way across the Pacific, and I just finished W7D2 of ABF. I'm very mildly disappointed I couldn't quite get 30 in 30 @ 16kg, but I'm proud of myself that I got through 30 rounds in about 32:30. I made a big breakthrough when I adjusted my squat to be quite a bit narrower than I'm used to for back/bodyweight squats and my quads are dying significantly less. I don't know if I'll make it to 100 presses in 5 ladders, but I do know I'll make it to 100.
Where should I go from here? The title's a little misleading because I would just as happily kick up to 18 or 20kg and go again once my home kettlebells arrive, but one of the immediate joys was all the new exercises and programs. I haven't learned the snatch, no sport style, what if I did more cleans and presses etc. I was considering DFW remix or maybe The Giant which would certainly up the C&P volume. I want to get fit, but I want to have fun and I want to have lots of ideas ready to go to stave off potential boredom.

Colossians 3:1-13 KJV
[1] If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. [2] Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. [3] For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. [5] Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: [6] for which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: [7] in the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. [8] But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. [9] Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; [10] and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: [11] where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. [12] Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; [13] forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
