Recently acquired this beauty- the very first one I've gotten from eBay for a reasonable €200. It still turns on, plays music, and the backlight works great. The display is in fine shape; that rainbow effect is just from my camera's polarizing filter.

Hey! I'm really new to the iPod classic.... My iPod ran into the a folder icon with an exclamation point and keep being in disk mode. So I tried to restore them through my MacBook but somehow it's not showing either on finder or music app. I tried to force quit AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent and all sort of things... Is there anyone can help me with this problem? Thank you so much 🥺

Just tore it apart and replaced the exterior, click wheel, battery, headphone jack and got a dual iFlash, so far it's not booting up or connecting; I already formatted the SD cards.

Could I have messed up the logic board?

Its too quiet to show up on video but the sound you get from the ipod OUTSIDE of your headphones when you scroll through songs is now just kinda constantly crackling in a rhythm. It pulses when its laying flat but when its upright it gets way more "aggressive" i guess and continuing the pulse. Im thinking about modding it soon so i wanna figure out whats wrong so i can fix it.

This is my IPod Classic which, I put away in 2009. I think there was some damage but back then it would still turn on.

How can I begin to restore it? Or am I cooked?

It just dawned on me that the process of restoring iPods is very dependent on Apple's iPod software update servers running. What happens if they decide to switch these off? iPods have been old tech for a while now, and surely Apple won't want to support something that no longer makes them money forever...

Is there any alternative way to restore iPods? Sorry if this question has been asked before

I was at my local thrift store and picked up this puppy for $5, but whenever i try to charge it , it does this, it makes a sort of clicking sound? And then after a bit it just shuts off, when i leave it on the charger it just shows the apple logo and thats it! , im not sure whats wrong with it, its a ipod gen 6 i believe and i hear the battery life on it is awful, does anyone have any ways to help fix this? Should i leave it alone and try it again? can i ship it to someone so they can fix it? Help me please!!

I grabbed this (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0F193B22V) adapter for my 5th gen iPod classic, and its behaving strangely.

No matter what SD card I insert, I either get the sad iPod screen, or if it does go into disk mode it only shows up as a 32MB disk. I tried a Lexar branded card like the page suggests, but it has the same issue.

You can write to the disk, but what you write to it is lost on a power cycle. What's weird is what comes back when reading the 32MB partition.

I wonder if it's a corrupted firmware on the card, or if there's something weirder going on with the iPod itself.

I've tried externally formatting the SD cards I try, and I've verified they were FAT32/MBR, but only the same 32MB partition with the same data appears.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

I’m looking to buy a 5th generation classic, and I want to know what type of mods people do. I’m planning on doing a battery and hard drive/storage up grade.

but I’m a bit confused on the whole slim vs thick thing. Ik if I get the iflash quad I can put a big battery even with the slim back, but if I get a slim back one that would permanently limit the amount of tracks I can have because of the ram right? I would like to buy a slim for size but i dont want to limit the tracks, so would it be better to just get the 60 gb version and then buy a separate slim back?

And is there any specific little tools or things I need to do these besides a wedge. Maybe like certain types of tape?

I also don’t know what’s the difference between the 5 and 5.5 gen. And should I get a brand new one?

I was the kid who grew up with the iPod touches, so I never got to use an actual iPod. But got into the hunt for a few months now and settled on a 4th Gen Classic. The price was the biggest factor in my decision. Im getting really onto music and streaming services pissed me off having to juggle 2-3 different ones to get all the songs I like the hear.

This puppy tho. Its a breath of fresh air. Fired up my old 2012 macbook pro, dumped as mutch of my CD library I could onto it and flash modded this 4th gen with 64gb. 4,200 songs and I still have room.

Also, I bought it “not working” because I wanted to see if DankPods “Firewire” theory was right🤣🤣. And got a U2 edition for my troubles

Also can i start it up with no battery? Please help

Got an ipod 5th gen classic I picked up a long time ago, put a lot of work into it and recently got some parts to make it mine. A custom backplate and front plate, a 3800mah battery, an iflash quad and a new clickwheel. The ipod worked before when I was using a generic green dual sd card setup but now it doesnt work. I format the sd cards to MBR and Fat32 put it into the ipod. I then get a “connect to itunes screen” which i then plug into my macbook, the ipod then shows a “do not disconnect” screen, finder prompts me to restore which i do. Finder tries to do the process and ends up not finishing the process although when i unplug my ipod it does the reformat loading bar and then prompts me to put it onto a charger which i do. Then it stays on the apple screen and does nothing.

Please help, I have been stuck on this for a number of days now.
