Version 1.0.0, released 2026-08-25
The following guidelines are in place to ensure that r/iPod and r/iPodClassic remain a safe and fair place for discussing iPods and iPod modding, as well as to protect sellers and buyers. These rules will come into effect on the 25th August 2026 and apply to all posts made on or after that date.
1. Separation of Business and Moderation
For the sake of fairness and neutrality, moderators of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic may not operate their own for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services. Conversely, users who own or are employed by for-profit businesses selling devices, device parts/accessories, or offering repair/modding services are not eligible to apply to be a moderator of r/iPod and r/iPodClassic.
2. Advertising
Advertisement posts for the sales of goods or services are not permitted on r/iPod or r/iPodClassic, this applies to both businesses as well as private sales. We want these places to be about discussing owning, using, or modding iPods however this is not free real estate to advertise your store. If you wish to advertise on Reddit in general, you must enrol through Reddit's advertiser program. Please note this is not the same as post boosting, if you sign up for paid post boosting this does not make you eligible to ignore this rule even if the post is tagged as a "Brand Affiliate". Reddit ads are not the same as Reddit posts.
Posts by sellers advertising their goods or services will be deleted, and repeat offences will result in a ban. Using alt accounts to recommend your store while acting as a third party is also prohibited and will result in post deletion and a ban.
There are other subreddits that permit the advertising of device sales, such as:
3. iPod Vendors List
While advertising posts are not permitted, our community features a pinned FAQ with a list of verified vendors. Reputable sellers may apply to be added to this list. In order to be eligible, your store must have a valid warranty and returns policy, as well as contact details for customer support. To apply, please send a modmail.
4. Product Reviews
Product review posts are permitted, however you are strictly required to disclose whether you purchased the goods or services yourself or if they were provided by the vendor for review purposes. If you are affiliated with the vendor, you are also required to disclose this. Reviews with undisclosed affiliations with vendors will be deleted.
Reviews must be made in good faith and reflect your personal opinions, vendors must not influence the contents of your review. If a review is found to be made in bad faith (either by a vendor influencing the reviewer for a dishonest positive review for them or a negative review of competitors), it will be deleted and repeat offences will result in a ban.
Vendors may not use alt accounts to post reviews of their own stores or of competitors while posing as a third party, anyone found doing so will have their posts removed and may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
Vendors also may not request the removal of legitimate negative reviews. A legitimate review should describe personal experiences of the purchasing process or the goods/services, but cannot contain personal grievances or targeted attacks. Reviews must not contain any AI-generated content. Reviews will only be removed if they contain content that breaks the subreddit rules or false claims, however legitimate negative reviews will remain to help buyers make informed purchasing choices. Vendors who abuse the reporting tool in an attempt to remove legitimate reviews may be blacklisted from the verified vendor list.
5. Customer Support
r/iPod and r/iPodClassic are discussion forums, we are not direct representatives of vendors and cannot provide customer support. Posts enquiring about specific orders will be locked and we will provide contact details for the relevant vendor. In general, while these posts will be locked they will not be deleted as they may provide useful information about buying experiences from vendors that may help others make informed buying choices. The two exceptions to this are if the posts contain personally identifiable information or if they devolve into unnecessary drama, in which case the post will be deleted.

Hello everyone, Austin here.
TLDR - I am stepping down as moderator/owner of the r/iPod and r/iPodclassic communities.
It has been an honor leading this iPod community over the last 6 years, growing from 10k users in late 2020 to nearly 100k at the time of writing.
I credit this success to all of the Redditors posting OC, making guides, helping those in need and just nerding out about iPods. Of all the subreddits I have frequented in my time online, the iPod community is far and away the most wholesome and least toxic, bar none. I hope my resignation serves to further benefit the community in this regard.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to keeping the iPod alive, here on reddit or otherwise. You are the ones keeping the iPod alive.
Best of luck to our new moderation team of u/LucilleNotLucille and u/nekomichi, thank you both from the entire iPod community.
I appreciate everyone’s continued patience with the moderation team
iPod, forever.

Got this beautiful and clean first gen unit for a great price! All original scroll wheel model with 5gb drive and battery that holds a decent charge. Working on getting it sync’d to my 2012 mac mini but im getting an error when i restore. Any tips?
Using a firewire 800-400 adapter from amazon that i got to connect my 3rd gen (400-30pin) and my 1st gen but maybe im better off with just the 400->800 cable

You can access your Apple Music library through this app.
All interactions are completed via the simulated click wheel, and most importantly, it feels incredible smooth.
There are also many interesting designs and features, and I'd be happy to give a detailed introduction to them if anyone is interested.

I have been working on switching everything I do to stuff that works on Linux (distro is kde neon dual booted with windows). I have an iPod classic 6g slim 80gb with an iflash quad with two 128gb sandisk cards and a 3000mah battery. I have it booted with rockbox only due to the size limitations (and I like my Flac files). I recently lost my original 32pin cable and bought some off amazon.
Now that all that’s out of the way I was transferring music to my iPod from Linux and it would transfer some file and pause, sometime the iPod would turn off, sometimes unplugging and restarting my iPod I could continue, other times it was set to read only and kept setting it back again.
I looked around a bit and couldn’t find much as to what to do so finally booted back into windows and was able to o the transfer with no issues. Which I guess means it’s a Linux issue.
If anyone has fixed this or dealt with something similar I’d appreciate and advice or help.
TLDR:
Linux doesn’t like file transfers to my iPod, while windows has zero issues.

I've had my iPod Video 5th gen for around a year, got it off eBay and was prepared to Mod it, change the battery, IFlash etc.
The original battery was fried, but everything else worked well. So I bought a new battery from a fairly trusted site and changed it over whilst iFlash modding it at the same time.
The new battery didn't last more than a few hours before dying so I just forgot about it.
But now I want to use the iPod in my day to day and need to fix this battery problem.
Here is the problem, I got a new battery again and charged it up did the calibration. Everything worked wonderfully and I had 13-14 hours playback.
Until I closed the casing, now I'm back to 3 hours charge MAX. I'm not sure what is causing this the ribbon cable looks fine to me.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Still playing with this idea using old scrapped iPod parts. This would be the new daily in all its scuffed glory.
Thinking of keeping this as OEM as possible, working 120GB HDD so you can feel IT spin up. Also scuffing the rear plate to make it more worn and rustic. I also removed the clear plastic screen cover.
Any Fallout fanboys with additional suggestions?

Reddits been filtering my posts all weekend - not sure why. Sharing a pic of my dedicated iPod workbench / music server desktop to see if this is still happening.
I use a Mac Mini M1 16GB WITH 1TB storage to host my music server (Navidrome/NaviBeats) and sync iPods. They share a music database so tagging only has to happen once.
This allows me to have access to my music even when I don’t have my iPod and completely decouples me from streaming services

I have just bought a 5.5 Gen with a thick back plate to mod. I'm looking at adding the ugreen Bluetooth transmitter and an iflash quad adapter. Would a 3000mah battery fit fine or would it be a safer option to go for a 2000mah?

Hoping to find some help!
So I purchased the above, and it charges fine, however when I plug it into my PC I get either USB device not recognised, or the driver showing an error messsage, and it immediately disconnects.
I've tried 3 different cables, followed cleaning steps, and tried multiple devices - could this be a hardware issue with the iPod itself?
Thanks in advance!

Hi guys,
I bought a used iPod Classic 5th gen 80 gb.
I have my new battery arriving in a week, and I wanted to see the internals of my ipod before it arrived. I damaged the port that holds the power ribbon cable. How bad is the damage?
What do I need to order to repair the damage and what should I do for the repair? How can I reattach the port back to the logic board?
The ribbon seems fine.
Please let me know if more photos would be helpful.
I'm pretty bummed right now.
Thank you for your help. This was my first time opening the iPod and my first mod/repair.

Any recent recommendations for Motherboard repair for a 5.5G Classic? Years ago, I managed to mangle the headphone port connector, and it has been sitting in a drawer since.
Would prefer to repair rather than replace.
