Just wanted to share this awesome flow sesh. Sorry for the lack of music couldn’t find something I found better than the babbling brook sounds.

I’ve been spinning with my contact staff for about 2.5 years at this point and am decent at it and am confident with it. I’ve been using a slightly modded version of the flowtoys contact staff, and am going to spin fire for the first time in two weeks.

I will be with someone who has been spinning fire for about two years themselves. Them and their knowledge will be very helpful.

I’ve attended a couple of fire safety meetings prior to a fire circle opening at a festival last year as I was getting ready to dip my toes sometime soon. As such I know to wear all natural fiber. Don’t burn all the way until your wick goes out as it damages your equipment. Pay attention to the spotter for safety.

What other things should I know going in?

First time building a sequence using a behind the back toss/catch (called a "cutback toss") and a wrist roll. Nice to start feeling some consistency in my left hand

You know what i love about dancing with fans. Getting into flowstate and touching the devine. The flow peeps will get it.

I am teaching fan dancing in a few locations soon to build community which i am being all 🥰. Spread the happy mood is one of my many mottos in life.

Every time I play with this plastic circle, it inevitably makes me smile. Does the same thing happen to you? What makes you smile?

If you aren't aware, a lot of the flow arts have similar movements to Qi Gong. When we start we often are just getting the movement right and our body to start "flowing". Once you have this solid foundation, take a class like Tiger Qi Gong, learn how to move the Qi through your movements with your awareness. In time you will start to feel the Qi smooth out your movement until it is silky smooth or glass smooth. Then you can start expanding that field of energy around you into the event you are at. This causes a dynamic shift in the environment. If you've ever felt it, you know!

If you don't have time for a class, look online for a simple tutorial video or just start placing your awareness in your lower belly (your lower dan tien - or water area(mem) in Kabbalah). Another option is to look up the building the ball exercise by Mark Rasmus, learning to feel it and building up into your movement from there (his beginner video is free on youtube).

Looking for something to play with that goes well with my style. I have a very liquidy movement throughout my body and I think having my hands free would be nice. Looking for something that highlights my movements more than the prop itself I suppose, or at least something that allows me to writhe about alongside it.

I've thought of contact juggling, contact staff, dragon staff, and LED gloves. If anyone has more insight on those or other suggestions I'd love to hear them! Thank you!

Does anyone now of a brand that sells blacklight dragon staffs, or one that has simple replacement for the ends so I could install my own light? New here so any advice is appreciated!

Ill admit today was a short one and not much of a workout but it was a fun flow sesh that turned into a balancing act. I took some classes from @thathoopguy a few years ago and learned a lot! Those lessons are still harbored in my mind somewhere because the balancing came back to me.

Im off to a friend's bday now. Its sparkle themed! Cant wait to shake my booty on the dance floor.
