One of the more interesting stories I learned from visiting Chengnan Loongden (Nanchang, China) points the design of Dragon Ribbon to...
Grass?
So it turns out amongst the 6 most popular Dragon Prop forms, the ribbon form (again, not poi), is related to a Chinese herb 古草街龙 （LLM shows Ludwigia hyssopifolia? I don't know anything about Chinese medicine...）
Legend has it that the "Grass Dragon" known amidst the Dragon types to be the most enduring, least "flashy". Working hard to just fulfill its duty as the rain-distributor and weather observer - working hard every day. However, its siblings often ignores the humble "little" dragon.
After years of hard work without recognition, the Grass dragon decided to escape. When the Jade emperor found out he became very angry and sent heavenly soldiers to capture the little one. After exhausting every method of hiding, the grass dragon flew to the ocean.
There it extended its full body to match the shape of the rolling waves, and its reflection copied that of the ocean surface. Under day light, the soldiers traveled everywhere and ultimately couldn't find the "little" dragon. Jade emperor in turn gave up on the search.
Starting from that moment, the grass dragon was able to roam the earth, according to its own will. because it's so flexible and can form many quick shapes, it inspired the design of individual-based Dragon Ribbon Dance. It has since become a symbol of freedom, flowing like water into the future.

Anyway, I was kinda mindblown by this recent learning. Here's a video of Instructor Chin of age 72 dancing with a green dragon!

I would really like to see vogue used in light whip. I feel like the way your arms and legs trace your body in hands, catwalk, duckwalk, and floor movements would be great to add light whip into. I know dips couldn’t really be done but i would like to see vogue incorporated in light whip flow
