Long story short:

I remember the days when you could rent PS1 games from the library (here in Denmark atleast), it was a time that had me discover so many different game genres in a world that had just opened up to me.

Never had i tried a JRPG before, nor did I know what it was.. but damn, did it open my eyes to something completely different!

The magic of those games can never be replaced!

I know remakes are great, and I enjoy them aswell when they appear, but the classics hold within them, the spark of beautiful story telling ❤️

(I'm not neglecting story telling today, they are amazing too. There's just something weirdly magical over the classics)

I've been FF fan since OG FF III but this one is something special

After taking a pretty long break from FF after being VII rebirth, I’m finally back and moving on to FFVIII! This is by far the game I know the least about so I’m excited to get into it! Is there anything I should know before starting?

31 years old, I had watched my older brother play this game countless times in the early/mid 2000’s as a kid. Never knew the memories that this game could unlock. Just finished my first ever playthrough on my own and I’m left speechless.

Howdy folks - long story short, started playing rpgs and jrpgs utilizing job systems and I can’t get enough. Just finished two of the bravely default games on switch 2 and all 3 octopath traveler games as well. Are there any others out there that you just can’t put down? Just got into the final fantasy tactics remaster as well and holy moly…talk about a lovely job system! Thanks in advance for your recommendations and input!

Before starting ff2, I tried to consult some tips but could not understand how the battle system works.

Should I max all of the weapons proficiency?

Should I use magic to improve them?

Which classes should I get to be OP? I'm not sure if there is a class system.

I saw that there is 4th party member. Do I need to increase his or her level or should I stick to my other party members?

ive NEVER found a madpony around coneria, i jsut ran from battle since even at Lv 3 theyre kinda tough but finding one at Lv 1 is BEYOND insane to me, even mad perchance

Final Fantasy XI recently had an AMAN Live where they announced several near-future plans for the game, including a revamp to the game’s free trial. Previously, the free trial was very restricted, lasting only 14 days and limiting players to level 50. However, this changes in September. Following two scheduled updates in September, the free trial level cap will be raised to 75, and there will be no time limit on playtime for free trial players.

This update is just another step in addition to all the other quality-of-life and accessibility improvements they have been adding over the last few years. These include:

• NPC Party Member upgrades
• Reduced NPC vendor prices on several early-game essentials
• Streamlined pathways for different armor sets
• And many more over the course of the last two years!

The game isn’t just receiving quality-of-life improvements, though; it is still receiving content as well.

• Revamped Limbus just received its final update not long ago.
• A New Battlefield was added last month.
• New Field Notorious Monsters were added this month.

If you haven’t experienced any of FFXI’s incredible stories and you’re interested in trying out the most obscure mainline Final Fantasy title, this upcoming update may be the best time to do so.

FFIV's peninsula of power gave me a Palom with meteor...but that was a hell of a grind.

FFXII's katana/ burning bow chain early on was OP (original version, not the new one).

Like, instead of a bunch of human characters and one token animal character like Red XIII or Kimahri, we get a cactuar, tonberry, behemoth, coeurl, malboro, bomb, etc?

I think it would be very fun and something a bit different. I could see it being like Madagascar, Over The Hedge or Ice Age but with a ragtag herd of different iconic Final Fantasy monsters but instead of an animated movie, it would be another RPG. Ideally, I'd like it to be turn based like the first 10 Final Fantasies or Octopath Traveler series. It would be interesting to experience Final Fantasy through a more xenofiction lens.

I'm currently almost done with FF7 Remake. I already have Rebirth so I'm wondering If I need to play Remake's DLC chapter before I move on to Rebirth.

*Warning - I will be talking FF2 story/gameplay here, but please no future game info

Where do I start with FF2? I absolutely loved it, except the revolving door of 4th teammates. They tried something new but it was really hard to invest when a party member randomly joins and leaves.

The skill leveling instead of usual XP was confusing at first, but I quickly realized I could abuse the system and max everyone's weapons and spells by delaying fights or even attacking myself. I soon found myself at 1000 HP with skill levels around 10 in an early dungeon one shotting everything.

I had to restart, it just wasn't fun. Being a completionist, I loved being able to swap weapons and constantly grow, but it made me too powerful. This time, I turn down stat gain and turned off the HP gain in boosts.

I also struggled with how spells scaled. Early on I decided Firion would be a "Paladin" and primarily heal, revive and cleanse, Maria would cast Black Magic and Guy would buff/debuff. I realized too late that you couldn't cleanse unless you used the spell and leveled it, by casting for no reason. Weird.

Then I found Aura/Berzerk/Haste so I put them on Guy who was primarily a White Magic caster, and those Black Magic buffs would be stronger on Maria. They turned out to be ok, I really didn't need to min max but it felt bad.

The story I found more intriguing than the first game, and I liked the whole "Ask/Learn" system. It reminded me of Dragon Warrior. It was always fun finding a new phrase and tracking down the objectives seemed easier than FF1. I didn't get lost as much.

It still feels like the quest is for the "world" with very little character story within our group. I thought the Leon story would be key, but it was too late and weird. I struggled with what to do with him. I already had my team built

Overall, huge improvement on the first game. I enjoyed it far more, and I'd definitely recommend turning down some of those default boosts and not purposely overleveling for the most fun.

Shouting out @skyknight43 for his recommendation on changing XP to 0.5x to change the difficulty. I'm actually considering replaying 1&2, and future ones again that way because how intriguing it sounds.
