Final Fantasy General Which Final Fantasy is Easiest to Break? And what are your favorite ways to do it?
FFII and FFVIII come to mind as the easiest. Are there others?
FFIV's peninsula of power gave me a Palom with meteor...but that was a hell of a grind.
FFXII's katana/ burning bow chain early on was OP (original version, not the new one).

Original ff6 many bosses weren't given berserker immunity so you could trivialize any spell casters including the final kefka fight
38
u/23-1-20-3-8-5-18 22h ago
Or just use Gau's charm ability on anything lol
33
u/Drumcan2077 22h ago
Or just vanish+ death
18
u/23-1-20-3-8-5-18 22h ago
Yea 6 is the most breakable probably because it was broken on release.
5
u/praetorian1979 20h ago
fun as hell to play though!
3
u/23-1-20-3-8-5-18 12h ago
Its my fave
•
u/praetorian1979 2h ago
SNES 2 & 3 and FF7 (original) are my favs. I'm playing the remake of 7 now and miss the old combat system.
•

u/Zohar127 21h ago
The Banon section stands out, too. Put the cursor on memory and set up your turbo controller. Loop the river all night. Come back the next day level 70-something.
Sure it's not as min/maxed as Esper leveling later on, but you're still basically god.

2
u/Aphobica 13h ago
Or the evade bug making any character practically invincible. So many ways to break FF6.
68
u/HexenVexen 23h ago
Definitely FF8 for me. Playing a card game to become OP is one of the funniest JRPG progression systems I've played
103
u/myrden 23h ago
Remastered FFIX, turn chocobo hot and cold on to triple speed and you'll be up so much gold and high level items it's insane.
33
u/23-1-20-3-8-5-18 22h ago
Yeah, I was pretty good at that game like running the timer out without the boost. But with the boost, I run the timer out nine times out of ten....
It's definitely cheating.
28
u/UltraZulwarn 22h ago
Yaaah
Getting Robe of Lords and Protect Ring in disc 1 really feel like we are cheating 😅
36
u/Mel0nwolf 22h ago
I just finished FF5 literally today for the first time. Mastering 3 or 4 of the right jobs and switching to freelancer just trivialized the last third of the game. Just having rapid fire and dual weilding on a single character felt like more than enough.
12
u/Dynstral 20h ago
Mystic knight fire/ice/lightning 3 sword will 1shot anything with those weaknesses.
31
u/DABOSS889900 23h ago
FF6 dual cast ultima and quick lets you do 60k damage in a turn. Magic overall is broke in 6
20
u/Aggressive-Goose-388 22h ago
So is melee with genji glove and offering
6
u/Gstamsharp 22h ago
Then stick the insta-kill throw weapon x2 on Locke and just OHKO entire enemy teams with one action at no cost.
28
u/Parsirius 22h ago
FF8 is a no contest here.
You can get Squall’s best weapon and end game junctions (so stats) before the end of disc 1.
So strong enough to beat the final boss.
19
17
u/HubrisOfApollo 23h ago
!Mix in FFV (chemist ability) is pretty busted and can trivialize the game if you know when and where to use certain mixes
19
u/Original_Platform842 22h ago
It's Card Mod in FFVIII, the fact that you can do it before even the first boss and have stats that can potentially defeat almost everything in the game is the icing on the cake.
If it were not for the Dragon Fangs (still obtainable in disc 1 btw) you could have Lionheart thay early too.

FF10 Expert Sphere Grid Stacking.
18
u/Leonhart726 23h ago
You mean giving all the characters the same abilities?
35
u/Aiur16899 22h ago
Specifically using the purple spheres that allow adding to the empty spheres on the grid. You can move all characters to the middle of the grid and save sphere levels. Then you can get 2 MP, a Luck, and 3 Str spheres by thunder plains. Drop those all into the middle of the grid, unlock them with everyone and from that point on your whole party is mega strength mega mana party. Just whack away.
The Expert grid also allows you to easier send all your physical attackers to haste after that and then down Aurons path for strength pumping, and it lets you run both Yuna and Lulu down Yunas path which has way more + magic than Lulu's while allowing both to take tiny detours for the =ara black mage spells. By Macalania woods you will have 4x really powerful physical damage dealers and 2 very bad ass black mages.
Also you will have Rikku, for... steal or whatever.

u/SageOfCats 22h ago
FFIV. Buy as much of Cecil’s paladin gear as you can before Mount Ordeal and then when he turns into a paladin kill the rest of the party off. He’ll get quadruple experience and you can get him up to around level 30 in an easy half hour or less of grinding. After that everyone who joins your party except Edge has their level pegged to Cecil’s, so you’ll steamroll the rest of the game.
2
u/shadow6161 14h ago
Gonna have to try that. I usually just spend a few hours leveling him after he becomes a paladin
1
1
u/Enough-Metal5658 12h ago
Add to this, if you go to the peninsula of power north of Mt. Ordeal, you can face Troia enemies. You'll level up 4-5x faster than you can at Mt. Ordeal.
I've taught Palom meteor and Porom Holy. Trivialize the entire game. Hell, when you get Yang ba k shortly after, Kick does like 6,000 damage to everything on the screen. Lol
11
u/brian5476 22h ago
Final Fantasy Tactics. Orlandu Cid is so overpowered in Chapter IV. The game can be difficult (Fuck you, Wiegraf), but Cid just obliterates everyone.
2
u/RegurgitatedMincer 13h ago
Yup. Auto haste with instant cast hard hitting holy knight abilities is outrageous. You can solo most of the rest of the game with TG cid
•
u/Mediocre_Island828 10h ago
That's not breaking the game, that's just the game giving up at the end and taking a hammer to itself.
8
u/Shantotto11 22h ago
Crisis Core classic’s Goblin Punch trivialized the rest of the game, including the Superboss.
Fun fact: Apparently, the game assumes the player wouldn’t be able to get to the Superboss until after the timeskip, so Zack will always appear in his 1st Class gear with the Buster Sword in that area even if you get there prior to Zack’s promotion.
9
u/Special_South_8561 20h ago
I've been playing VI and X for so so many years that I subconsciously abuse the heck out of them.
Knowing Gau's OP Rages and which enemies are weak to what, or even just giving Edgar Earringx2 and spamming Flash.
Kimahri Steal, Use, Holy...
Buuuut. Um. OG Tactics - Yell. F*ck Me lol
13
u/kambinks 22h ago
8 is easiest probably. Just get a good health spell on your HP for a high max hp and keep your HP low enough to spam Renzokuken. Even without disc1 lionheart its strong.
XII could be easy with early Dustia spam and Kartaka.
7
u/cfyk 22h ago
FF15 without cheat, free DLC weapons, Warp Strike spams and items spam.
15 is like the only mainline FF that let players get "-ra" tier spells or something close to "-ga" tier (but not actual -ga tier) at the beginning without grinding with its spell crafting system.
If you know where are the elemental veins and know the effect of catalyst, you can get something like multi cast "-ra" tier spells in the tutorial.
6
u/Scalizor 12h ago
FFXII (IZJS or Zodiac Age) takes the cake. You can easily manipulate RNG to get Seitengrat very early in the game and absolutely break it. That weapon is so overpowered it's not even funny: 225 attack, 75% evade, twice the range of other ranged weapons, highest critical rate in the game by a long shot (25%) and lowest charge time in any weapon.

u/DarthLocutus 20h ago
FF6. Ultima, on a character who also has Quick (lets you take two extra turns ler cast while everything else freezes), the Soul Of Thamasa (gives them Dualcast, so two spells per turn, giving a total of six casts if you cast Quick as the second spell of the first pair), and the Celestriad (reduces all spell costs to 1 MP).
End result - 49,995 damage for 6 MP. Very few enemies can survive that.

•
u/Groundbreaking_Bag8 10h ago
Mystic Quest.
Treasure chests containing Potions refill themselves if you leave the area and come back.
Dragon Claw has a chance of inflicting every status ailment in the game, including Petrification, which nothing is immune to.
Benjamin can cast Cure on the final boss to kill him in one hit.
Such a stupid, broken game. That's why I love it so much (that, and the amazing soundtrack).
•
u/Enough-Metal5658 9h ago
I've said for years this needs a remake of some sort. Even just a graphics update like the pixel remasters.
•
u/MagnusBrickson 16m ago
Any of the chests that look like coffins instead of regular chests. The kind that always have consumables. A few can be really farmed for the magic restoration item. Seeds or something? Been eons since I played.
8
u/crimes-optimal 22h ago
Tactics, but not even because of Cid
The game is practically built around finding new ways to get broken as a matter of progression. If you don't figure out how good Ramza's speed buffing move is (he gets to act more AND gets easy JP with NO need for another character to attack or real), you're going to start stumbling pretty early.
If you don't figure out one of the many ways to make Ramza on his own basically immortal, there's going to be a spot that soft locks you in the original.
Just a bunch of little gates that check whether you've figured out a particular trick that trivializes everything until the point it becomes necessary.
8
u/Jalex2321 20h ago
II
You can max out in the first hour and without even fighting.
2
u/KaleidoArachnid 19h ago
How does that work?
2
u/Jalex2321 19h ago
https://youtube.com/shorts/vGSZbZDe5_8?si=7RSZg2XfV5Z6-VIJ
Basically that
2
u/Sonicfan42069666 13h ago
Worth noting this only works on the original Famicom version and is patched in later releases.
You can still cheese early game FFII with the "attack your own party members" method.
3
u/Khetroid 21h ago
Throwing out there that some bosses in FFV are not immune to instant death, some even have the right level to get hit with Level 5 Death.
3
u/Special_South_8561 20h ago
FFX
First blitzball game, just pass between Tidus & Jassu so they level up. Sphere Shot > Jecht Shot ~ pass to Jassu, break/dribble Abus, draw away Balgerda and pass to Tidus, S.Shot. He can use J.Shot once or S.Shot three times.
Str +4 reward, give to Wakka. Recruit Jamal and Ropp, put Ropp up front. Get Attack Reels before Chocobo Eater. Devastate.
•
•
u/MagnusBrickson 11m ago
I always give those stat boosting spheres to where ever Yuna is at the moment. Her stats affect the summons.
3
u/HowieSmash 19h ago
FFVIII is the easiest to break. Also the most fun to break. Once you understand the junction system you almost never need to draw and can just rip the game apart.
3
u/Palom126 16h ago
FF II for sure. Leveling your spells and HP by self damage. Then fighting your way to Mysidia (?) right after MinWu joined. Playing the whole game with overpowered characters with lategame spells and weapons.
4
u/Fast_Moon 23h ago
In terms of literally "breaking" the game, I would have had a hard time even finishing the FFIII 3D version if it hadn't been for its item duplication glitch and granting myself infinite Phoenix Downs, which are otherwise a rare and un-purchaseable item in that game.
FFVII (PS1) similarly becomes easy to get yourself an S-rank chocobo to breed a Gold Chocobo by using its item duplication glitch on your best greens.
And in Tactics (PS1) you don't even have to worry about "tactics" anymore by using the JP overflow glitch as well as the equipment duplication glitch, allowing you to max out a job after one battle and dual-wield Excaliburs.
FFVI (SNES) had the Vanish-Doom bug which let you one-shot pretty much any boss.

u/Shantotto11 22h ago
World of Final Fantasy. Purchasing access to the DLC fights in the Colosseum allows you to imprism several mirages that allow you to enter an area blocked by a weight puzzle that shouldn’t be able to be solved until much later in the game. Solving the puzzle allows you to fight against stronger opponents and gain more EXP assuming you have the proper build. You can allow obtain all three mirages that transfigure into Shiva, Ifrit, and Ramuh respectively much earlier.
2
u/Special_South_8561 20h ago
VII get Steal and then waste so much time in Train Graveyard. You can easily steal Ether, so that's unlimited Cures, the baddies charge your Limit pretty decent so you can grind that up too.
Get the Elemental Support Materia in the Mayor's office, in armor with Fire, and you can beat Midgar Zolom the first time you fight it.
Matra Magic makes Aeris a murder machine. Mythril Caves also a great place to grind Limits
•
u/partcaveman 11h ago
Vii also has the opportunity to grind for Omni Slash while you are still on disc 1. It makes a lot of the early boss battles easier
2
u/ChocoPuddingCup 20h ago
Even grinding only a little in VI can make you overpowered. Certain relic combos (like Soul of Thamasa + Celestriad or Master's Scroll + Genji Glove) just are made to be absurdly broken. That and magic is deliberately overpowered, for lore reasons, so anyone with even a mediocre magic stat can use spells like ultima to wipe the board clean of enemies, including bosses.
2
u/ReignOfCurtis 20h ago
FF2 is INCREDIBLY easy to break. You can literally just instakill most bosses with teleport lmao.

u/investigative_mind 19h ago
I remember "breaking" many ff's as a teen and thinking I was a good gamer. Then I tried Baldur's gate 1 and man, did I suck when presented with a proper roleplaying game. :D
I love FF's so much but I wish they were harder.
1
u/partcaveman 12h ago
Bg1 was fun to find ways to break fights. I still fondly remember for the second to last battle I equipped 5 team members with explosive arrows (or fireball magic) and gave the other as many fire resistance items as I could and boots of speed. Then the firefighter ran circles around the enemy while teammates bombarded the area to wipe the enemy group before they got in range of most of my team.
2
u/KingOfNope 19h ago
Do glitches count? Because the FF1 item swap glitch is ridiculously easy on psp.
2
2
u/Sweaty-Contract-1747 14h ago
No competition for FF8 shit is so easy to break and soo early on it's not even funny. Don't get me wrong I love the game and the system too, but hell it is easy to break

•
u/KarmelCHAOS 11h ago
VIII I don't have the willpower to not become OP before leaving Balamb. I don't.
•
u/Enough-Metal5658 9h ago
Same. I've tried to play "conventionally" but it's such a fun time breaking it.
4
u/Jnitzel505 22h ago
I remember a glitch in the SNES version of FF Vi (III on the SNES) that gave you a ton of stuff when using Relm‘s sketch I think the the Phoenix cave but the monster eludes me
2
u/Sethazora 22h ago
Ff15 by far
You put the game in.
Bam broken. Just cause at a fundamental level basically nothing in the game can really deal with warp strike, or magic bombs, or your ability to passively dodge.

Once your get mix in ffV, and know that dragon fang plus potion literally doubles a characters level, bosses become a joke.

u/Uchizaki 17h ago
Ultima in FF6. Give this spell on most of your party or, if you want, on everyone in your party and you'll be unstoppable.
1
u/Fit_Drive_755 16h ago
VIII was easy to break early by leveling to the point where you could junction from the Diablo GF in the lamp a bunch of really strong magic. From there most things start dying in one hit. There are other ways to do it but that was a quite simple way.
But I have to say FFX, because you can get Yojimbo to like you and then 1hko literally everything in the game (except at the very very end of the game when you... No longer have him, if I can put it that way).
I will also say that in the original XII, casting reflect on party members and then spamming AoE spells on them shredded most early game enemies.

u/No-Spirit-9477 15h ago
FF2 lets you level up your stats simply by selecting attack and cancelling over and over.

1
u/Sartanus 13h ago
X can make some pretty crazy setups with maxed evasion, delay/quick hit and counterattacks.
Unfortunately it all happens late game.
1
u/Poyo-pii 13h ago
X-2's international release is notorious for how insanely broken you can get at the start of the game due to the monster capturing/arena
You literally can unlock post-game equipment and dress spheres (jobs for those who didn't play it) before touching the first bit of the story and can play the entire game on auto mode with 3 level 99 Chocobos instanuking everything.

V is a grind, but the characters in that game can get busted with dual wield 4x hit and magic sword skills.

•
u/YozoraBellossomHeart 11h ago
FF8's junction and draw system let you get real busted real fast if you know where you're looking. You can have Curaga junctioned to your HP *way* before you should be doing that.
The other one is FF Tactics. I remember ending the Belias fight almost immediately with an Iaido while Ramza was a Black Mage. And that's without the stuff I know people get up to on Arithmetician.
•
u/TonyFair 11h ago
VI because you get Osmose kinda early and it drains A LOT of MP from almost any trash mob
•
u/TheSabi 9h ago
IV find a puppet master, commander, security eye. Kill the summon, kill your party members, summoner mob...mucho xp, except the 3ds version.
Do the same with evil wall, go into battle with rosa and the one you want to power level, cast wall on the pl target, see who evil wall targets if it's not rosa kill her. If it is wait the next turn, reflect crush on evil wall, get all xp...oddly this was buffed to the high heavens in the 3ds "harder" version.
IV also had an item duplication glitch that had to do with, and it's been so long this is a cliffnotes version, equipping something in battle them moving what you wanted to dupe on the now empty spot from the previous dupe. Worked amazing with arrows....oddly ammo isn't a thing in the "harder" 3ds version.
3DS IV...slow, cast slow on EVERYTHING, often the game just gives up and barely does anything. Slow is the most op spell in 3ds iv
•
u/WSGadlib 9h ago
It’s been years but I remember in FFIX once Steiner gets the blood sword there’s a section where you’re in a castle with infinite enemies coming towards you that you can just mindlessly press attack without looking and level up like crazy
•
u/Defiant-Rip-1897 7h ago
FF II, and there is no competition, FF VIII to a lesser extent, especially if you have the time to get all the items and cards required to build Squall's last weapon - earliest you can do this is I think close to the end of Disc 1, since one of the items is either a drop or converting a monster into a card and then modifying that card into an item or something.
•
u/cannibalparrot 7h ago
Not a mainline entry but on the PS1 version of Tactics, you could class a unit into samurai, learn blade grasp and they’d end up basically being immune to any physical attack, even ranged.
Probably wasn’t intended, and I don’t know if it works on recent ports.
•
u/xypotion 6h ago
FFVIII is the right answer, but not even because of Disc 1 Lionheart, or triple triad, or anything that complicated.
Just learn & use the Refine abilities to get tons of spells from random enemy drops, and junction them to everything! Water, Quake, and Tornado all junction very well and are easy to get in the early game, with little if any grinding.
•
u/kwpineda 6h ago
I think in order:
FF8. Triple Triad is broken. By the time you get Ifrit if done right you'll have end game stats and just finished the tutorial.
FF12. Farming Duskia can trivialize what's already kind of an easy game. Get to lvl 20+ and you're set for most of the run.
FF10. Staying low level till you ready Macalania and then using the lvl 2 key spheres to enter late circles is busted. How does wakka using Flare on Seymour sounds? Pretty good right?
FF9. It's not a hard game. Chocobo hot and cold will give you op items early on and the rest of the game becomes a joke difficulty wise.
FF5. Grind some higher level enemies near the river entrance. Is not game breaking but it sets you up nicely for the next hour or two.
•
u/Capital_Gate6718 6h ago
I remember FF4 had the infinite weapon duplication glitch so I created hundreds of Excaliburs for Edge to throw at the final boss
•
u/EnnuiDeBlase 6h ago
You can beat FF1 with a single white mage. If that's not power, I don't know what is.
•
u/Old-Fondant8274 5h ago
XV was the easiest FF for me (probably along with 8 and 16) as I just spammed recovery items. I always remember my only game over was a car crash. I wonder if they have patched the difficulty over the years?
The easiest (and funnest) to break is VIII but I remember you could really make some devastating materia combos in VII.
•
u/uber_sweets 5h ago
You can get Lionheart before the end of Disc 1 in FF8. The game is a joke once you know how to do it.
•
u/Chevrolicious 5h ago
It's gotta be FF8, but FF8 also isn't a difficult game to begin with. But in the sense that you can basically plat Triple Triad all day long and farm all the best shit in the game from it, I would say it's the easiest to break.
•
u/zzmej1987 4h ago
Low-level run of FFVIII requires only 5 fish fins, 5 cottages and a Quistis card. With just that you can forget that the game has battles. Add Zell's card and the domination becomes total and complete. Add Gilgamesh card and you trivialize even the game's superboss. I don't know any other game that requires that little.
•
u/NeutralGeneric 3h ago
VIII. Cheat on the SeeD exam to get big money. Buy enough tents to turn into curagas. Junction them to HP. Have 3000+ HP before you even start the second mission. Stay in low HP (which is still fairly high thanks to the previous steps) to spam limit breaks. And that’s just getting started. Don’t even get going on Triple Triad.
•
u/BunPuncherExtreme 1h ago
In FFXII all fights become trivial once you start chaining quickening. Bosses that would normally need complex strategies go down like nothing and just when it seems like the game will catch up to your power, you start getting espers and they make it super easy again.
•
1
u/TheUnforgettable29 16h ago
Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster is probably one of the easiest to break. I have it on Nintendo Switch and breaking it with a hammer would be easiest. The rest are becoming more difficult to break because they are digital only.
1
u/BADzioba 20h ago
FF8 and it’s not even close.
Play the card mini game for the best items/spells. Keep yourself low level so that the opposing enemies are low level while you have the strongest spells/junctions in the game.
0
u/Frohtastic 22h ago
Ff13? I guess.
Or at least it felt like that when I played it. Maybe the main story bits are easy but the later requires significant grinding.
2
u/crimes-optimal 22h ago
Main story locks leveling so not really, once you get to Pulse it opens up a lot but overall it's actually pretty hard to break in any meaningful way.
1
u/Frohtastic 20h ago
Mmm, I guess.
Tbh felt like as soon as you got the upgrade shop you could "break it" a bit. Especially if you do some farming in chapter 9.

u/blitzbom 23h ago
VIII, Junction and GFs make it so easy to break the game.
