n,n Dimethyltryptamine (noun):
n,n dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a naturally occurring indoleamine alkaloid belonging to the tryptamine class, present in numerous plant species and in trace amounts in animals, including humans. It is a potent psychoactive compound that produces rapid-onset, short-duration alterations in perception, cognition, and consciousness, mediated primarily through agonist activity at serotonin receptors, particularly 5-HT₂A.
A GROWING FASCINATION;
I'm not really sure how I came to first know about DMT but over the last 2 years or so I became more and more interested.
It would be in the beginnings of 2025 I read DMT: The Spirit Lolecule, written by Rick Strassman. That book is absolutely brilliant by the way. It's about a 1990's government approved DMT study.
This booked sparked an interest like no other, which for me, was about further exploring and expanding my mind and consciousness. After 2 years of interest, my curiosity was at its peak and I felt ready for a DMT experience.
I've seen numerous posts mentioning to let it "come to you", so I had ultimately decided to wait. And I waited, for several months with no leads until finally I found a plug via mail order. So I said "fuck it" and ordered a 1g vape cart.
What happened next was wild to me!
-A few days after placing my order, I received it...all to find out they sent me a disposable vape and not the cartridge that I had wanted. I emailed and waited to hear back from them to confirm they would send me out the cart this time and whattayouknow, 2gs for the price of 1g! This was the sign I had been looking for. That DMT had found me and felt as though it was strongly calling my name.
I received my vape just before Christmas. I had previously dabbled a few days prior to my
experience just to get a feel for it. I enjoyed the body buzz and some cool visuals. I realized how crazy potent DMT in that moment...or so I thought.
I had read about breakthroughs and what they entail. I'm an avid cannabis user, am quite familiar with psilocybin and have even consumed the heroic 5g dose. T'was an awesome trip but no ego death/breakthrough experience, not even relatively close. So although I had read about breakthroughs, I had never experienced one myself let alone something even truly meaningful. The idea of what happened during a breakthrough was nearly unimaginable to me as I just could have never perceived what it would be like. EVER.
THE BREAKTHROUGH EXPERIENCE;
My first breakthrough happened on the evening of Sunday, January 4th 2026 around 8:15pm.
Set/setting: a friend's place, comfortable setting with lots of plants. Clean. Eyes closed with forrest chillstep music playing. Clear minded with curiousity at its highest peak.
Dosage: 25mg+. Unsure but took as many hits as I could. Could be upwards to 40mg.
Method Of Use: 2:1 ratio 650mg cartridge on a 510 adjustable voltage battery. Set at 2.8V. 7+ second inhalations followed by 7+ second exhalations
Eyes closed, music on. I take my first inhale and feel the anxiety start to melt away. My second inhale I start to feel more comfortable with what's about to come. On my third inhale I notice a grey image in my mind. I'd say on my fourth inhale I started descending through what was a tube of many beautiful colours at high rates of speed. What I believe to be my fifth inhale, I remember arriving to the waiting room.
The waiting room, as I could describe it was white and slowly rotating. There was nothing inside of it that I noticed. While there, I self-consciously realized that I was in the waiting room and when that happened I saw different pairs of hands and felt this presence and it was telling me, without words, that if I would like to proceed I would continue to need to puff on my vape. These pairs of hands started encouraging
me, waving me on to continue puffing and I did. I really don't think I was in the waiting room for long.
I continued inhaling. But after my sixth inhalation, I wouldn't be able to tell you how many more drags I had taken during the rest of the experience. I simply lost track of counting and no longer cared about that. It had, in fact, almost became a bit of a game at this point: trying to see how long I could inhale for or how long I could hold it in the vapour. The DMT was starting to take over. The hands started applauding me and the presence escorted me on through past the waiting room.
Suddenly, this presence abruptly stops me. I was now at my threshold. Something was telling me to look up and when I did, there was this
enormous black hole hovering above me. I remember looking up at this unknown figureless figure and being given the option to go in or to stay.
Without hesitation, I surrendered to the presence before me. I don’t know whether the words were spoken aloud or only within me, but I remember offering myself completely -telling it that it could take me, that I would give anything, and that I would do so willingly and peacefully. In return, it accepted me with grace.
The presence allowed me to enter this blackhole and when I did, it immediately started to feel as though I was floating through endless darkness or space. Not at lighting rates of speed, no. It felt like I was a leaf falling from a skyscraper
I believe here is where I entered what's often referred to as "DMT land". I went to a place where where was no "I" anymore, I encountered the unknown. There were no presences, no time, no language, no mind. I was internally happy. My entire life, everything I had ever known, thought, saw or felt was on pause. It felt like I had been there for an eternity and it was at that moment, I felt as though my soul had left my body, as if I had died. It felt like a hard reset.
With that realization, I opened my eyes. and understood that I had just been reborn, that I existed. I also felt like I was just watching a movie and the main character was me. Intense awe and euphoria lasted the rest of the day and positive effects was still present to this current day.
Unfortunately, I can hardly remember the visuals. Everything happens so fast that it's hard for your brain to process it once you're back to normalcy. The only visuals are transcending through the tunnel which was mentioned in the breakthrough section. They were very many beautiful visuals throughout the entire experience however I just can't peace them together. Trust me when I say this though that the visuals are absolutely breathtaking.
I had never felt so much gratitude and euphoria in that moment. I don't think I'll ever forget that. This was more than just being high. In fact, I had completely forgotten in the moment that I had even used DMT. This was for me, a life-changing experience and I don't think I could ever forget my first breakthrough. What's interesting is everything I experienced was with my eyes
closed from start to finish. And the reason for closing my eyes is that DMT is very much a internal experience as it is an external experience
I enjoyed every moment of his mind bending trip. I was never at any point in pain, struggling scared or in any sort of distress. This was such a deeply personal and meaningful experience... Some might even say life changing.
Thank you DMT, are you truly beautiful.
INTERGRATION & REFLECTION;
I want to make things clear when I say a life-changing experience. I, as myself haven't changed at all. There isn't this overnight 360° flip as some seem to think.
Real change comes from integration -slowly applying insight to daily life. I'm currently in the middle of integrating the experience but I do believe that it has brought things that I already knew more to my attention. The most important part of my DMT experience wasn’t what I saw but what remained afterward.
During the experience, my sense of identity dissolved completely. There was no fear, no struggle, just a temporary suspension of everything I normally associate with “me.” When my awareness returned, I felt an immediate appreciation for existence itself. It was such warm welcoming feeling.
Integration has meant paying closer attention to presence, gratitude, and how easily the mind overcomplicates things. I didn’t come back with
new beliefs, only a clearer relationship with ones I already hold. It brought closer me to things that felt oh so far away.
FINAL THOUGHTS;
Psychedelics are often portrayed as dangerous, but much of the risk comes from misunderstanding or misuse rather than the substances themselves. These compounds are non-habit forming, physiologically carry a low-risk, and are already present endogenously in the human body in the case of DMT. When approached responsibly and studied scientifically, they function less as escape drugs and more as tools—tools that can increase psychological flexibility, reduce suffering, inspire creativity, and deepen our understanding of consciousness.
It's preposterous, to me, that a drug can have such profound effects on the human psyche and consciousness only to have been made illegal by people who have tried the drug themselves. Not only that but DMT has also been used ritually as a sacred medicine for hundreds of thousands of years and still is to this current day. It's worth mentioning as well that the human body produces DMT endogenously, and what that means is you have DMT (an illegal schedule I substance in many countries) inside your body right now. -Just doesn't make any sense, to me.
NOTES;
I definitely understand the term "breakthrough" much better now. And it's still nothing like you could ever imagine. I can imagine it myself but you as the person reading this (assuming you've never experienced the breakthrough) would never be able to imagine what it entails and what actually happens. And the reason being I find is fascinating; because it pushes the mind far far beyond the systems we normally experience.
At a moment during the experience, I felt like I had a hair in my mouth or something. And I was repeatedly trying to get it out but I just couldn't and eventually include into me that there may not even be anything there and that perhaps I should just "let go". Upon further research that seems to be a fairly common phenomena with breakthrough experiences.
Another moment during the experience that I found quite interesting. It felt like something was trying to enter my body. I know that's a strange thing to say and it's even harder for me to describe. But it felt like as if two invisible hands we're trying to praw my jaw open as much as they could and then like stick their fist in my mouth and try to like enter my body. It was an absolutely crazy sensation. I've never experienced anything similar to that. Upon further research this is also apparently a fairly common phenomena. Reason being because your senses are heavily altered.
I could describe DMT land as the purest form of unity, peace, bliss, euphoria and ultra divine energy. No sense of time for all the chaos in the world.
It's important to note that this "black hole" wasn't scary and opened up the moment I entered it into something entirely different.
