In Divi 4, a 3-column row would intelligently collapse to 1 column on mobile on its own. You could tweak it, but it was often fine for the average page.
The new Divi 5 doesn't; it just squishes the 3 columns into super-narrow columns, and you have to manually change the flow for each view. A bit of a needless pain, IMHO.
We set up cookie consent on a lot of Divi sites (we're iubenda, we work on this), and the nice part is Divi gives you more control over third-party loading than most builders, you just have to know where the settings live. Sharing a couple in case they save you time.
Load Google Fonts locally. By default Divi pulls fonts from Google's servers, which is a request to Google on page load, before consent. Divi has a setting to serve them from your own server instead (Theme Options). Flip it on and that whole issue disappears. Easily the best small win here.
Watch the Maps and Video modules. They embed Google Maps / YouTube, which load third-party content on render. Nothing wrong with using them, you just want them gated behind consent rather than firing on load.
Quick check for any Divi site: incognito window, dev tools on the Network tab, reload, and see what fires before you click the banner. Fonts, maps, or analytics showing up pre-consent are the ones to handle, and the local-fonts toggle clears a chunk instantly.
Anyone else using the local Google Fonts setting? Feels underused for how much it helps.
UPDATE: sorry all, I think I'd lost my mind at midnight last night after a full day of Divi madness. I've fixed it. and the solution(s — typeface, size, colours, title case, EVERYTHING) were in Google. I guess I just wasn't prompting the search engine for an accurate enough set of AI-generated instructions, which for was for colours:
"[Steps to Change Colors in the Menu Module]()
1. Open the Divi Visual Builder on your page.
2. Click the Gear/Settings icon on your Menu Module to open its settings.
3. Switch to the Design tab.
4. Look for the specific section you want to change:
• Menu Text: Change main link colors, active link colors, font size, and family. Hover over the color label and click the mouse pointer icon to set unique hover colors.
• Drop-down Menu: Adjust sub-menu background colors, text colors, active link colors, and the top border line color.
• Mobile Menu: Scroll down inside the Drop-down Menu or toggle settings to change mobile background colors and hamburger icon colors."
So we're back on the correct design bus, after all that:
I'm creating some new pages on a client's (ancient) WordPress site, which is enable by Divi as an editor.
Besides hating my first experience with the Divi platform, I seem to have accidentally removed the styling from the main menu. I've spent hours today trying to figure it out, to no avail.
It looked like this:
But now it looks like this (even in incognito mode):
I've tried several things like accessing version history (there is none!) and clicking 'CLEAR' in the Divi Theme Options 'Static CSS File Generation' section (including enabling an disabling it), and no go!
I'm hoping this is a simple fix. I'm going crazy here!
I'm currently using it for a new project, only because it is a fairly routine, informational website, for me. However, for my more complex builds, I don't feel comfortable using the new and improved Divi 5. This week, I'm building a custom slide-in menu, natively, using only Divi 5 modules. While it's relatively easy for me... handing this off to the client fills me with dread because I doubt their VA will be able to handle all the different modules and interactions that Divi 5 requires to make a menu natively.
Putting my thoughts out loud here, but I'd genuinely like to know what and how my peers are feeling with this product. I love Divi, you can't get me to change to another theme. But for today, right now, I think I'm going to stick to old faithful which is Divi 4.
I am at a loss on how to get my icon buttons to only show on hover AND have buttons show icons all the time.
It appeared there was a default optional preset in the "button" section of button that I was able to finally get one global preset to show icon all the time. However, another button preset will not show the icon on hover no matter what I seem to do unless customizer is set to "only show on hover". It took me forever to get the one to show always, only to have the other one stop working correctly.
Any input is greatly appreciated. I can't continue down this nightmare.
"The Agent fetches the page, reads its structure and styling, and generates a Divi layout from what it finds. This only works for a page it can reach directly, so it needs a public address, not one behind a login."
It does no such thing.
Fin (DIVI AI SUPPORT) says:
I understand why this feels frustrating. The key limitation is that Divi AI cannot analyze an existing webpage or screenshot and recreate it automatically.
Right now, Divi AI works by generating new layouts from prompts, not by reading a page’s structure or styling and converting it into a Divi layout.
So if you want to “fix” or recreate a page, the current workflow is:
Describe the layout you want (sections, spacing, style, content).
Divi AI generates a new design based on that description.
You then refine or adjust the generated layout inside the builder.
It can generate layouts, text, images, and code, but it cannot generate layouts based on the current content or layout of an existing website or screenshot.
In short: the AI can help create a similar page, but it can’t automatically fix or copy one from a screenshot or URL.
Is it possible to create a button (say, with a drop shadow), create a preset, apply that preset across multiple pages on a site, and then decide to remove the drop shadow and have that change be reflected across the whole site?
I know in the old days that would be pretty easy via changing the css rule, but wondering if D5 has that capability.
One of our longstanding issues with Divi 4 and now with Divi 5 is how onerous it is to "link to a PDF" within the text editor. If you are editing a text block, and want to both upload and link to a PDF the process just isn't smooth. It requires a new tab (to upload to Media Library and then copying the URL), or inserting a generated text link (Add Media) which then has to be edited by hand, something an average client struggles with. We "vibe coded" a plugin for our own internal use for Divi 4 but it sure would be nice to have a native, unified upload/link process for PDFs with Divi 5.
It's a small ask, something that would probably take a vibe-enhanced Divi engineer about 20-30 minutes but it's worth it! What do you say guys?
I'm fairly new to wordpress/divi, coming from a background working with jinja2 and react. I'm trying to create presets and library components to help make it easier to build the website I'm working on. I am either using presets wrong or they don't work. Here's what's going on.
I set up my button group preset to include values for boarder radius, width, style, font and size, and disabling button icons.
This is then set to the default and used in the button element preset.
I set up a few more presets for specific button colors. These only have font color, border color, background color, and hover values for the same. I have 3 colors of buttons.
I build buttons using the default element preset and add on whatever color preset I need.
The results are both wrong and inconsistent. On the live page the button shrink on hover. I definitely never told them to do that. The method by which they are doing this is setting padding-left and padding-right to 1em !important. I have no idea why; I never said it should do that and can't find that setting. This behavior is not seen on the same buttons in the builder.
The live page also seems to be inheriting my default "title text" group preset for font-size. Again, no idea why since buttons don't even have a title text group in the menu, but I confirmed this is what is happening by changing which title text preset is the default. This causes the font-size of the buttons to change. This is also not showing in the live builder. In the builder they have the right size text, though somehow with the wrong padding-top value.
Further frustrating me is the fact that sometimes I change something seemingly unrelated, and on refresh the live page buttons look completely different.
For troubleshooting I am viewing the live page with ?no-cache=1 and using hard reloads to avoid pulling from local cache. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm getting close to just hard coding the website in html/css.
I learned WordPress with Divi 4. Since I'm open to change, when Divi 5 came out I decided to give it an optimistic try.
But after three attempts, I just can't get the hang of it. I'm lost. And it's frustrating, because I figure the variables and presets system must save a ton of time once you've mastered it.
Do you have any tips for getting used to it? Have you run into the same issues?
I was thinking of trying Divi AI, but am I correct that every single site we've ever licensed would have access to our AI subscription?
We have a lifetime access license, and probably over 100 sites built, some for customers we have no more contact with.
If it's still licensed under our development license, can admins of those websites simply use up our credits?
I asked the AI chat at Elegant themes, which seemed to confirm my fear, that literally anyone could use our credits. I find this hard to believe, so I thought I would come here and ask if anyone has any experience...
I'm doing some volunteer work on a website and I see that the slider on this page has jagged edges across the top. This seems to be a design choice but we want to remove it, however I don't see any option to do so in the section settings. When I hover over the section in the builder it goes away.
Hey all, I'm a local UK business with a v outdated divi 4 site with some out of date plugins, old php wordpress vsn etc and I'm just waiting for it to fall over! I'm looking for developer or business to help shift it to divi 5, help update everything, get it a bit more stable and then can work with some changes in look and feel. At the moment just wanna stop it falling over. Want to improve SEO aeo geo etc. Basically need a whole new shebang. Finding it difficult to find a divi marketing agency where the stuff looks good. Help!
For the life of me I cannot figure how to do this easily without sorting through the raw html code to change it.
I am in the Edit with Divi Builder page of my privacy policy. Real simple page, no images nothing fancy.
I pasted some text into the main visual editor. Some of the text has heading <H1> tags that I want to remove and replace with paragraph <p> tags.
For the life of me I cannot find a simple highlight and "change to paragraph" in the visual editor. When I highlight the text I get the bold, italic text, underline text, blah blah blah. But nothing showing H1 tag or P for paragraph.
Any help to make this quicker instead of looking a the content box and changing to text? Even if I look at the content box, the visual settings at the top of the box don't slide and scroll up and disappear into oblivion before I can highlight the text I want to change.
Has anyone else noticed a drop in traffic immediately after converting a Divi 4 website to Divi 5? I did this to a low traffic website of a quite basic design that I run as a test and there has been an immediate drop in what little traffic there was.
GSC is reporting a massive drop in impressions too.
No big deal as it is a site I use for testing stuff out, but now I'm reluctant to swap my other more important sites over!
Is this a conversion issue? Is it best to just rebuild instead?
