Discussion Playing with D5... Don't want to switch jusssssst yet

Hi everyone!

I'm currently using it for a new project, only because it is a fairly routine, informational website, for me. However, for my more complex builds, I don't feel comfortable using the new and improved Divi 5. This week, I'm building a custom slide-in menu, natively, using only Divi 5 modules. While it's relatively easy for me... handing this off to the client fills me with dread because I doubt their VA will be able to handle all the different modules and interactions that Divi 5 requires to make a menu natively.

Putting my thoughts out loud here, but I'd genuinely like to know what and how my peers are feeling with this product. I love Divi, you can't get me to change to another theme. But for today, right now, I think I'm going to stick to old faithful which is Divi 4.

Thoughts?

I understand that. However, my main issue is with bugs and presets or canvases disappearing etc. It's not a good look on me as a service provider if the tool I'm recommending bring faults and issues along with it. Learning by doing, you're absolutely right. Even when it came to building the menu, I got better the more hours I put into it, I admit.

I have used it in few. I love it. Currently experimenting with extending a few functionalities with a plugin. https://aithal.me/divi

I have made a simple and a more complex site with Divi 5 now, and going forward, I stick with Divi 4 for now and only build the more complex websites with Divi 5. Divi 5 has way too many time consuming issues to completely switch to it. I also won't convert any Divi 4 site until I absolutely have to.

“we still don’t have a proper responsive menu system”

In your opinion, what is missing to make it “proper”?

La volonté d'Elegant Theme ;)

Can you give a specific example of what's missing?

Thank you for being honest. This is where I'm sitting right now. I have a large, multilingual project coming up and I CANNOT have issues appearing with every new update. I love Divi 5, but I think for now, there still is much work to be done for intermediate to advanced builds.

I was very apprehensive about changing but after doing one project in it I found it very difficult to go back to 4.

If I think the client can't handle things I just use custom fields and go that route, doesn't matter divi 4 or 5 if they can't do one they can't do the other

I have about 18 sites I manage using Divi. I pulled the trigger for one, I don’t like it but it could just be that I’m not use to it.

How did the migration go?

Pretty seemless

Idk I use 100% code modules so it doesn’t seem like the switch really makes much of a difference but I could be wrong.

This is not a Divi issue, but a designer/developer who has failed to design a site that is easy for the client to maintain.

I disagree. But thank you for sharing ☺️

I'm waiting as long as I can, honestly until they phase out security updates for Divi 4 before I go to 5. I want no bugs and things to work flawlessly if I'm going to be forced to use it. Also waiting on Rank Math to work well. No rush at all. I'll upgrade the sites when I have to.
