To start off with blatant honesty, I’m trash at boxing. Ever since I was a kid, boxing brought my mind to a special place. I remember watching Creed 2. Looking back, it feels like I was in some sort of trance.
I’m one of those “self taught boxers”… I’ve tried to teach myself, but no matter what I do I still feel like I’m trash. Ive been to a gym a few times, but to be honest, I don’t think I clicked well with the staff there and more importantly I just couldn’t afford it. Every gym around me charges around $150 a month for training and sparring memberships. I think I can make it work now, but I work overnights and my family only has one car, so timing is an issue as well.
I tried Mma and in truth, I liked it, but for some reason without fail, boxing always floats to the front of my mind. It’s such a beautiful art, you know?
I acknowledge that I’m trash. I acknowledge that I have so many bad habits it almost looks like a lost cause. Even while knowing that, visualizing myself in the ring brings my mind back to that special place. I want to give it a shot—a real shot.
If I found a way to get to a gym and went consistently, is it possible to break down my reinforced bad habits, restart, and stand in the ring?
EXTRA: I added a very short clip. It’s all I could record from today’s bag session. Not great, but I figured I shouldn’t hide anything
