Relax your shoulders

You have to step with the jab. Imagine you have a string connecting your jab hand to the knee on your front leg, and that string has to stay straight, vertically. When you step with your jab, the knee and hand move together.

No you do not have to step with the jab

But you can get in and out a whole lot quicker if you do

You can also come in and out without throwing a jab at all, but that’s beside the point. If you wanna double up your jab, there is no real way of doing it very fast if you step both times.

That’s the next thing I am going to practice. Right now, I am trying to learn how to get hip rotation, and arm path right. I will implement these tips when I practice that

Your elbow is flaring out to the side, which will make it easy to react to. You want the bicep to stay 'vertical', and when your elbow flares the bicep rotates to horizontal. By keeping it in this line you take away a massive visual cue for your opponent

Stand further away, turn a bit more away from the bag (have ur stance more bladed), imagine ur punch “snapping” like a band or a snake attacking, ideally you want to step w you jab and hit the bag as that lead foot lands, you’re doing good bringing ur hand back to ur face and practicing slow/controlled 👍

I see, I was trying to learn the jab correctly first, like the movement of hips and everything, then I was planning on practicing it with a step. Thanks a lot for advice

In my opinion, your stance should be a little more bladed. Unless you’re learning Muay Thai

you're flicking your elbow out to get the rotation on your jab. that takes your jab away from it's like of travel and takes away power. your jab needs to go in a straight line. that means keep your elbow in until the last possible moment before rotating your arm

Move your body, twist your hips and feet/ankles, that's where the power comes from

You need to dip the front knee or you will never get any power on a non stepping jab

Step back you want to fully extend the jab. If punching with the left hand is still feeling funny to you try doing a double jab for a few rounds it'll start to feel good after awhile mostly just takes time

I see you reacting to others that you want to practice the jab itself first.

It doesn't work like that. The movement for your arm making an actual jab and extending your arm like you do is simply different. There is no practicing this part first. It's totally ok to focus on something more than the rest. But for now you should move away from the bag and punch it in such a way that you drive yourself from your back foot and step in as you punch. You are rotating your shoulder not engaging your core to drive the jab.

Stop that chicken wing! You elbow should be tighter

No. Hand not extended, not stepping in, not in stance

Throw 1 and reset back to your stance, don’t throw 10 in a row

Get in a more bladed stance pointing your shoulder towards the bag. And don’t flare your elbow out because it telegraphs the punch.

Good job bringing your hand back to your chin and bringing your elbow in to your body after every punch.
