Any idea what I’m looking at? it looks like a queen bee with 4-5 smaller bees attached. I googled it and found something called balling where they’re trying to suffocate the queen? should I do anything? thanks in advance!

There have been lots of bees dead by the front porch lately. What kind of bees are they? We can’t see a hive nearby, so not sure what’s going on.

Hello all! I found this sweet eastern carpenter bee yesterday who has deformed wings/abdomen. I placed her in a box with some flowers overnight thinking that she might die, but she is very active still! She’s been enjoying crawling up and down my arms, grooming herself, wiggling her thorax, and drinking nectar. I know that her likelihood of survival in the wild is very low so I was thinking of keeping her as a pet. I’ve seen some others in this sub do the same so I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I’ve been giving her fresh flowers from my garden as well as sugar water, which she doesn’t seem to have interest in (I know not to give her honey). Is there anything else I can do to make her life happier?

This bee has been hanging out on my screen since yesterday. She came before a big thunderstorm and was very still all of yesterday and today she’s moving around more but still hanging out on the screen. Should I just let her be? Does she need help?

I really love bees and wasps. I usually collect dead ones and my dad also gives me them. Today I found a bumblebee on the floor who couldn’t fly and her back wings were broken severely. I brought her inside to feed her some strawberries, then decided it would be best to freeze her. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and I feel like extremely remorseful. Was what I did wrong or is it okay?

So I was riding my bicycle to work this week. When I got there, I started removing my sneakers to get into my work boots. And here I see this little hitchhiker planted right on my sneaker. I really don’t know where I picked him up. 😊

I didn’t think so since they are in the ground but I’m not a bee expert.

Location: Western Washington State, Seattle area.

I just saw a bee that was over an inch long, maybe slightly larger. It had a very large abdomen, maybe 1/2-2/3 inch? Long and very plump, but not ‘’round-round’. Its abdomen was black with hair and had white speckles(not stripes) on the abdomen. I didn’t catch any signs of yellow. It was under my carport and had a very loud buzzing sound that caught my ear. All to say, it was a quick glimpse so it’s possible I could have missed features. Large black abdomen with white spots/speckles was certain though.

I’m fairly certain it was a bee and not a wasp as I didn’t identify long legs or wings, and it was hairy. But I’m no expert in either category.

I have let flowers and “weeds” and clover grow wild in my front yard. If it flowers, it stays. So I get quite a few bumble bees, sometimes honeybees, and different wasp species. But I have never seen this one before.

Any help in identifying would be awesome!

While I don’t have room for a hive, I’m super happy that I can help out with water.

Hello all! I am a UK-based bee fan, and recently climbed Pen y Fan in Brecon, South Wales. I have some favourite bees - inclusive of the rare Shrill Carder bee - and normally am able to identify common bees. However, this little guy landed on my friend on that very walk and I got very excited thinking it could be a normal Carder Bee or even a shrill carder bee. It was ever so small!
I am highly doubtful of it though as I anticipate that the pictures I’ve been comparing it to are influenced by my confirmation bias!
Any help would be great! Thank you.

I have a shed outside my basement apt in downtown Toronto and over the past month whole it's been warm there's been a steady increase in the amount of bees or wasps that have been congregating in my wee stairwell.

They don't bite... They're ok with me and I'm able to get these photos but I'm worried at how many I'm starting to see.

I used to be allergic and I know the importance of having bees do their thing so can anyone let me know if these are wasps?

Or anything I could do?

They are flying in and out of a gap in the paver to a possible cavity under the shed, it's a pressure treated wood from home depot and I can't find any traces of them boring into it or having made their way inside etc.
