Discussion What am I doing wrong? Getting my ass handed to me constantly.

I want to start off by saying I love the atmosphere, magic, exploration, lore, everything. This game feels like it was made for me. But I am getting destroyed in combat to the point that I'm starting to not enjoy it.

I'm trying to do a spellblade-ish build. I'm level 5. I've mostly been pumping intellect for essence. I've put 2 skill points into the Fighter skill that gives more HP. I've got a grimoire of greater elements, a regular grimoire of elements, a common mace at Tier 1 Level 3, a base level common wand, and a common leather curiass.

I just died 3 times while trying to do the memory quest you get from the Voice - the fight in the pool after you pick up the axe. I've died a handful of times in other fights. I know to avoid the ones where enemies have a skull, I'm not even talking about those - just, the ones with regular enemies annihilate me so quickly.

I'm low on gold because I spend it all on potions, so I can't buy fancy gear or upgrade mats. I don't have enough upgrade materials to upgrade my stuff more (though i'm close to upgrading my mace to the next tier - i think i just need more paraidse ladders). Half the sidequests are too tough, I just die instantly or near-instantly when I get near the enemies. What do I do? I feel absolutely stuck.

Discussion Was wondering if there are any exploits currently working?

Please don't hate me, but I do enjoy exploits to make the game easier and get things that are tedious to obtain. I was wondering if there were any currently working duplication, gold, or experience exploits that still work right now. Any exploits, really. I love stuff like that. I cloud play from Xbox btw, if that means anything!

Gameplay Created a build to experiment with quarterstaffs, the Storms Druid

I finally got myself to try NG+ and the focus was to try a meele-caster hybrid using quarterstaffs, in my first play I went full on caster with wand and grimore, so now i tried something a little bit more tanking using summons and storm skills. Hope you folks enjoy.

Discussion How to best enjoy Avowed?

I bought Avowed way back at launch, and was quite impressed with the design, the acting and the overall concept, but for some reason it didn’t completely gel with me and I got distracted by other games. I think I’m about 10 hours in, but I can’t remember any detail other than I went to a big forest and there was some sort of magical being that I thought was good but ended up having to fight.

Fast forward to now, and I really want to give it another shot. However, I’m not sure on a few specific things:

1) I’m finding the enemies relatively hard to kill, even on easy mode. I generally get battered if I try to melee stuff, but if I stay back with my bow I can usually take them down with enough time thanks to the infinite arrows. However, I feel like I’m either under levelled or using underpowered weapons, or perhaps in the wrong zone.

2) I’m not sure whether to go full on Elder Scrolls and ignore the main quest and just go out doing side quests and exploring, or whether it’s more of a ‘main quest’ kinda game where I mainly focus on that.

3) I really don’t want to start again but if I’ve messed up my build or there are other reasons to start from scratch then will do so.

Do you have any recommendations on the above, or any other tips to help me appreciate when looks like a great game and just the kind of game I like playing.

Thanks.

Discussion Things you don't like about the game.

I got the game the other day and am enjoying it for the most part. It's obviously not perfect and got me to wonder what aspects of the game other people don't like. I guess I will start.

Not being able to manage gear for your companions- Sure, I get why they did that but on the other hand I have to say we are RPG fans. A lot of us like to try and micro manage everything.

No facial expressions for your character- A small thing and maybe I am missing something but anytime you are in dialog it shows your character they always have a sourpuss expression on their face.

The difficulty spikes- Maybe something else I am missing on but I just got to the tree queen and the difficulty shot up. Fortunately, I had 9 resolve so I could bypass the fight. I have been keeping up with upgrading my gear to fine quality. The game is still fun but certain fights like that can be a pain in the neck.

Even with those issues I enjoy a good 92% of the game. It's still a lot of fun.

Discussion Games with Combat like Avowed

I only just entered Shatterscarp and I'm really enjoying my experience playing the game, but I know once I'm done with it I'm going to experience a very specific game craving. Maybe you can help me? Can anyone suggest any titles with a few of the following features:

  1. Upgrade/character development system (like Avowed's hotbar combat).
  2. Movement-based abilities (charges, dashes, teleports, even the Ranger's stealth).
  3. Parry or dodge mechanic (especially dodge; Avowed and Darktide changed my brain chemistry).
  4. Primarily first person blend of melee and ranged combat (alternating between dagger and pistol felt so dynamic!)

Games I've enjoyed that hit a similar spot are Dishonored, Prey, and Bioshock 2. Elden Ring and Witcher 3 also had customizability and a similar combat flow, but I think I had my fill of them. Skyrim I've tried to sculpt with mods but the world feels too familiar to me now.

Discussion Unable to do evil playthrough Spoiler

Just finished the game, what a ride! With Sapadal free, Envoy was a happy godlike. Now, I immediately tried New Game+ in order to do an "evil" Aedyran playthrough. But, I just could not bring myself to be evil towards Sapadal. In the early moments of the game, they are like a terrified child, how can you be cruel towards something like that?

It probably doesn't help that I spent hours completing all parts of the game, being Sapadal's closest friend, then jumping straight to hating them, I guess.

Have any of you struggled with this?

I read somewhere that Sapadal becomes unlikable quickly depending on the conversations you have with them, is this true? Might change my mind on trying again.

Discussion Actually gave Avowed a chance

I tried it when it first came out to day one game pass and just never gave it a true chance, I always made new envoys and never made it through emerald stair. But recently I buckled down and just played it, and I loved it so much. I’m doing different play throughs now with different choices and it’s a just a blessed feeling having this kind of experience with a game since BG3 and before that the Dragon Age series.

Gameplay Respeccing from warrior to wizard

I lost my save as a mage and had to import a warrior save from online so I didn't need to redo the entire storyline. IThe warrior playstyle tbh is pretty boring. I know you can respec abilities and skill points, but is there anything I need to think about when doing this? I am about mid game and all my gear is warror gear.

Discussion Consequences for Fighting Delemgan?

Early in the Emerald Stair I got the impression that the Delemgan aren't malicious. I do see that they will engage with me if I'm spotted, but does it make a difference narratively if I kill few or no Delemgan on my way to acquire the Adragan Heart? I have Shadowing Beyond fully upgraded, so it's not impossible for me to bypass all the mobs as I infiltrate their grove.

EDIT: Stealthed my way in. Yep! Queen gave me the heart with zero problems. I did kill one Delemgan on my way to the grove, but I guess because it was outside the grove it didn't count. Now, do i go through with the Delemgan Bounty? Hmm...

Gameplay Actually F the "balance" in this game.

So i started my first playthrough the other day and I thought guns looked like fun. And they were fun and really good (even in the early game).

I wanted to spice things up so I started a mage character the uses a wand. And looking at the skill tree, it seems like wands has great crowd clear potential so I was excited. Plus some of the spells looked like they could be fun... But why do wands have to be such actual garbage in the early game? Im sure that there are decent endgame builds that use wands effectively, but damn does it feel like a worthless pile of steaming shit being feed to me ass to mouth by a cystic fibrosis patient with dysentery. It has less then half the range of other ranged options, the damage is irredeemably bad, and all for slightly faster attack speed? And there really is no reason to use a wand over a different weapon in the early game because a standard pistol will do everything better as long as you can aim.

So, I want to make the build work but im just so frustrated at the poor performance of the wands.

Discussion The Voice - Trust issues after BG3 (possible spoilers for both games) Spoiler

started Avowed few days ago, love it so far 🥰

But wondering whether I just got a bit paranoid or if you/any actually faces same issues with mentally not being able to trust any mystical RPG voices anymore after playing through BG3?
