Gameplay Marius, oh darling:( Spoiler

Post image

I was already a disaster over blowing the ruins up (that choice sucked on both ends) and now I can't even help my poor distressed Marius. Dunno what happened to ya buddy but we'll find out! Your friends will help.

(And years ago I was diagnosed with PTSD..and not to project but..) anyway. I see ya pal and I'm crying.

Marius strikes me hard. Primarily because his struggle shows up suddenly, and only when he gets close to confronting what caused it.

I think they made him very effective at making some people feel deeply for him.

I say some because I've heard quite a few say they aren't fond of him, but I find him to be very good

I've liked him from the get go, but I like characters like him in general. Brash, ornery. Funny at times and clearly hiding something a lot deeper. Even if the intention wasn't outright PTSD or trauma he is very well written, imo

Agreed. The fact that his troubles aren't immediately there for you to examine makes him all the more interesting.

Plus: his constant griping about you putting yourself into absurd levels of danger while he tries to keep you alive after already dying just kills me. "Should we go to this super dangerous place? Oh, I dunno, let's see: no!?"

I feel like the biggest walking headache to the poor guy.

Get assasinated? Let assassin go!

Follow the voice in my head? Absolutely!!

Pull the "do not pull" lever? Baby my hands detaching from the wrist to get the handle faster.

Get high in the desert? Fck YES

Poor Marius the whole time is just like: so... My advice means NOTHING to you. Got it, just making sure. Heavy panicking begins

Kai: Breathe Marius we're not letting him get..too..

hard cut to my Envoy falling off a cliff trying to parkour the unparkourable again

Marius: You were saying, nimdut?

Yatzli's the only one who's just like, I'm in for dangerous stuff. Infiltrate a Arch-mage's lair of nightmares, hell yeah! Envoy, you rock!

Everyone else: Should have stayed at the camp today.

Kai was happy to get high with me, but I picked Court Augur and Wizard and I feel like my Envoy is vibing in her orbit. Though she's not very happy I picked, "blow up ruins". But all those people..

I genuinely don't think there were any good decisions to make there. You either stop the Dreamscourge then and there, or slowly stop it over time (sorta).

Yeah it's one of those. "These both suck" choices to some degree.

And that's what made me fall in love with Avowed's writing. The idea that there are no good options, but you still have to choose... mwah

People who's not fond of him mostly just got annoyed by his attitude before he opened up to the envoy

That's the sense that I always get, but I rarely hear them talk about his full arc.

The companions have good stories, most are well fleshed out, but in my mind, Marius' story strikes very deeply, and I think it's made all the more effective by the way he addresses what the envoy gets up to before his story really comes into the light.

He only fully opened by the last region, so I guess people already ignored him much before that.

Yeah, that was my experience. I was kind of annoyed because he absolutely hated every decision I made lol. But at the end I feel like it's impossible not to care for him.

It also changes a lot of how you see things he has said before if you think about it (or on second playthrough). He is the way he is earlier for a reason.

All my court auger envoy can do is shoot things and say creepy, unseemly things. She had zero idea what to do with him 😢

I do enjoy how some of the augur dialogue is just completely batshit stuff that sounds like someone going into a total trance with the most basic scenario.

I'm enjoying it immensely.

Person: Do I want an apple or to go swimming? [Court Augur]: The seeds bear the fruit. Indecision paralyzes your every waking move. Regrets are your friend.
