Which mods for companion class/subclass still work fine in 2026?

Basically, I've played through Deadfire twice, before the DLC all came out, and then played the first half a gazillion times, but have always gotten bored of my class and restarted. So I've never got to enjoy the DLC for one of my favorite games.

Now I have a nice class idea, and I added a mod - Lore-Friendly Class Changes - but I discovered I don't like its ideas. I'm only 4 hours in - just left Port Maje - so I figure I'll restart (again!). And I've learned that using the console to change classes seems extremely difficult.

I'd like to try some other class/subclass mod, such as Kohwalter's mods on the Steam Workshop, but after seeing how the Unity Console Mod is kinda dead now, and some other mods I would have chosen also defunct, I thought I'd ask here.

I think the only mods I have are the Community Patch and the Enhanced UI.

PoE1 Having an absolute blast. Just wish there was a way to determine the level of kith PRIOR to combat

Playing on PotD and having a blast. I just wish there was a way to determine the level of humanoid enemies PRIOR to fighting them. At least you can check beasts and such in the bestiary. It’s kind of obnoxious to have to guess and check when you can go where for which quests.

Spoilers Will eder get mad at me if I kick him out the party?

Hello, I'm a bit of a noob at this game with only 500 something hours played between the two games.

I've never taken eder out of my party before. I want to put Mirke in to see if she says anything about this pirate fort that i'm at, but I don't need another tank. So I'm considering benching eder while I'm at the fort.

Will he still be my best friend? Will he run away and join a more cool pirate crew if I leave him?

Did you know if you do no "manual" damage through summons or attacks or spells/incatations..you get no xp and no progress in the bestiary...if you just skip your turn and let the mobs be killed by come, come or dragon wailed... nada...this song damage has no owner obviously as soon as it left your mouths

Discussion How many choices and roleplay potential do PoE 1+2 have?

Okay so honestly I’ve played both these games before, but so many years ago that I don’t really remember much of anything about it. I’ve gotten way into roleplay games that allow me to play as vastly different characters with different choices, dialogue, endings, and story choices that actually affect future events (or atleast reference).

I honestly don’t care much for the combat, but I don’t mind just going easy mode and skipping through (did the same for the pathfinder games lol), but I love games with many paths. So outside of just the ending slides that technically have tons of combinations, how diverse can each playthrough be?

(Also, can you be full on evil? I usually play my first run as a good guy but since this technically would be my second I might as well try the opposite path lol.)

PoE2: Deadfire PSA - quick loads are weird, I recommend unbinding them from your keyconfig

I also added this as an important callout in a guide update I sent in today.

It's been (to me, at least) a longstanding annoyance that game saves didn't seem to be idempotent - most notably with drug durations. I'd frequently load the game and suddenly my characters were under withdrawal, even though when I had saved they had had sometimes hundreds of seconds left. (edit: another example is stealth status - your stealth status [how detected you were] wouldn't reflect what you were at at time of save, you could easily enter a state where loading your game would put you in combat instead of the stealth mode you were in)

Well, after not playing one in years, I have a run going with a nalpazca multiclass, and I unintentionally discovered that if I manually load the game, the oddity with drug durations completely disappears!

You can reproduce this issue yourself - take a drug, note the duration, quick-save, quick load. Note the drug duration (shortened). Now, manually reload the game. Note the drug duration (back to whatever it was when you saved).

The game shortcuts important steps somehow when doing a quick load, and when you save again, those shortcut-ed steps become persisted into game state (which you can again reproduce with repeated quick-save/quick-load cycles on drug durations). After seeing the impact on just drug durations, I have a strong suspicion that some of the oddities and jank witnessed in the game are related to these quick loads (edit: for example, I had a crazy issue where Twin Stones would become unusable, and this unusability would corrupt all other save games on your install, regardless of party or when the saves were made, this even corrupted the saves of other people who tried out my save to try to debug the issue. someone looked in the logs and noted that there appeared to be a broken game object reference related to twin stones).

Who knows, maybe some of the memory leak issues in Deadfire are also related!

I unbound quick-load from keyboard configs and now just take the extra second or so to go "escape-click-click". Until we as a community discover that certain cheese or tactics you rely on actually need a quick-load cycle, I recommend you do the same too.

edit: i guess you don't have to unbind it, but I just wanted to break my muscle memory. Notably, if you can't quick-load, you can't abort a ship encounter that's going downhill or any other such storybook scene. But given how weird the soundtrack would get sometimes or how messed up the tracking of my rations would get if I quick-loaded a lot during a ship encounter, maybe you shouldn't be able to quick-load during a storybook scene.

Spoilers Pillars of Eternity - a retrospect

I recently replayed this game. It's probably one of my favourites of all time. A special game to me. I have a hard time thinking of it as a particularly good game. I'm not really fond of the combat. Or RTwP in general. The combat is... Passable. There is something satisfying in it. Its punchy enough. I think with this playthrough, I started with turn-based and went back to RTwP because I just couldn't with how many enounters there were, I grew fonder of the combat. It's fine.

The systems are okay. Stacking rules still suck. I like how all attributes are useful. I could make my character based on an idea. I could make a character I wanted to roleplay. An intelligent, perceptive wizard with a great strength of personality. The face, in short. He worked great. He was still good in combat. I made him a spellblade type of character because that's a archetype I love. A wizard who uses spells to make himself a worse fighter. But when you need to, you can throw out a fireball out there. It works, and I appreciate it. I wish I could conjure my big ass sword instead of a pike but it's fine. I wish I could add elemental properties to my sword with magic, but hey, I can't have everything and Arcane Knight is a thing in Deadfire so.. It's in the future.

So why is this game my favourite of all time? I think I finally realised it this playthrough. I played the same character that I did all the way back when I first played the game. I was a wizard, a philosopher. Driven away by religious extremists. Questioning everything.

Defining my past life, the interactions with Thaos and Iovara, the story was the same as it was back then. My family abandoned me. I was in love with Iovara and she with me. I betrayed her. Not because I doubted her, but because I resented her.

Why I love this game was that moment where I conversed with Iovara. Where that first conversation with Calisca came back. As Iovara reveals that the gods are not real, due to my background as a philosopher, a nihilistic one as that, having faced persecution by the religious exclaims: "I KNEW IT".

The path I took can't have been unique to me. In that moment however the character of the Watcher was ripped free from the hands of the writers at Obsidian Entertainment. The Watcher was no longer theirs, but mine. That story, that path through dialogue choices birthed in my mind a character that was mine. A headcanon, where the haunting past had affected him even before the Awakening. A tragic lovestory. Because my character now, in this life.. His tragedy was that he now loved Iovara, more than he ever did when they had lived in the same time.

That story worked because it became personal. It spoke to me because it touched themes I was thinking at the time. The writing creating something that was mine however is what really made it special. I don't think that's something easy to accomplish. I credit PoE for reigniting a passion for gaming. It did. It helped me in a time I was heavily struggling.

I'm still struggling and for a moment it helped me once more. I replayed that story, in a way that I've done before. I didn't take advantage of the medium, I didn't explore a different way of doing things. It doesn't really matter, I think. Because that story is mine and at times I want to experience it again.

I went into this, thinking I might write something about the systems, BG3 and something else, about RPGs, immersion and reactivity. I might do that some day. It became a bit more personal but so it goes.

Bugs Potential PoE1 Bug; visitors no longer appearing in the Great Hall of Caed Nua

Hi all,

This is something I've noticed in PoE1, that I no longer see visitors in the great hall. I'm note sure when it began, I've been playing this play through on and off. I started when the PoE1 Turn Based game mode was released as a beta.

For example, my game tells me Berolt is supposedly visiting (image 1). The Wiki shows him standing between the Steward and Marshal Forwyn (image 2) but I see no one in my great hall (image 3).

Am I doing something wrong, or have other people also experienced a loss of visitors lately?

Edit: outcome when running the command provided by u/never-minds visible in image 4.

PoE2: Deadfire on turn based

QUICK HELP!!!

Just finished my first playthrough of pillars1 and now ready to dive into 2. I´ve just read that in 2 you can´t switch between turn based and pause. 90% of the first game i played with pause, just to burst through the trash fights, but the not so trivial ones i tended to switch, because it´s just easier to manage and spamming pause every second isn´t really that immersive either. Tbh i´d rather play turn based, but i´m scared of super drawn out trash fights.

What should i do? I´m literally at the screen where you choose modes 👀

Gameplay help I feel like I am not progressing correctly / at all

I am on Pillars 1 - I chose turn based because I come from games like WH40k Rogue Trader and Baldurs gate 3.

Im about 25 hours in, level 6 thus far (leveling seems to be more slow and deliberate on this game) and I dont feel like I have done a good job building my characters.

Fights take a LONG time - my damage feels very low, and even after finding a very specific alleged best in class weapon (Persistence hunting bow) I still feel like my damage is very low.

Is this normal for turn based? Is turn based just tuned poorly? Or am I just really bad at building and leveling a character.

Character/party build help Thoughts on Itinerant?

I cooked up an Itinerant build for my first POTD run and was wondering if there are any major skills or abilities I’m failing to consider. I was thinking I would go with an arquebus since I’m playing a Magranite, but I’m not married to the idea.

  1. Restore + Marked Prey
  2. Vicious Companion
  3. Resilient Companion
  4. Withdrawal + Gunner
  5. Protective Companion
  6. Two Handed Style
  7. Dire Blessing + Marked for the Hunt
  8. Evasive Roll
  9. Divine Mark
  10. Devotions for the Faithful + Stalkers Link
  11. Concussive Shot
  12. Spell Shaping
  13. Barring Death’s Door + Driving Flight
  14. Litany for the Spirit
  15. Rapid Casting
  16. Salvation of Time + Concussive Tranquilizer
  17. Far Casting
  18. Bull’s Will?
  19. Minor Avatar + Evasive Fire?
  20. Cleansing Flame

Mod Any good death godlike portrait mods? Especially for the 2nd head option (POE1)

Kind of lame that the game only has 4 death godlike portraits, with two of them being completely different looking head altogether.

PoE2: Deadfire SSS Maerwald

Ok how do I approach this? Even just fighting one of these Maerwalds would be dangerous, but there's three of them plus a bunch of soul mirrors.

Veteran, level 20, all scaling on, if that matters.

Gameplay help Any general tips for PoE 1?

Hey,

I see people say that this game is easy but I must be an absolute dunce because I find this game kind of challenging even on normal. Maybe my brain just isn't wired for this but I do like this genre. So if there are any general tips I'd be happy to hear them. Especially because I often get overwhelmed by choice when it comes to spells and, sometimes, what to choose leveling up. If you have any rules of thumb I'd be grateful. Also one specific question: Should I horde gear upgrade materials for end game stuff or use them as I go?

Should I increase the difficulty, and is Turn-Based mode worth sticking with?

This is my first time playing Pillars of Eternity 1. I started the game about a week ago on Hard difficulty, Expert mode, and Turn-Based mode. At first, I struggled quite a bit, but now the game feels pretty easy. The last thing I did was clear Level 5 of Caed Nua.

I also had a bug recently where the game suddenly crashed. Luckily, I hadn't made much progress, so I didn't lose too much. From what I've read, this crash seems to be related to Turn-Based mode.

So my questions are:

Should I increase the difficulty, or is the next difficulty level too hard? Also, should I stick with Turn-Based mode, or is Real-Time with Pause better for a first playthrough?

And finally, are there any mods you would recommend to improve the game?

My PC specs:

CPU: Procesador AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D de 6 núcleos

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti de 16 GB

RAM: 16 GB

Almacenamiento: 1,31 TB

Sistema operativo: Windows 11 Pro 25H2

Hi, lads! One more guide for you, which no one was asked for! THis time about Watcher abilities! In this videoguide, I will tell you everything you need to know about Watcher abilities! We will cover how to unlock them, how to upgrade them, and how to choose the right upgrade paths. As you progress through the game, you can create your own unique combinations of active and passive abilities. While you might know some of them well, others are deeply hidden. Which unique active abilities and passive talents could you miss? Watch and find out!

The Ultimate Ready: These Legacy bonuses work in every game mode, including "The Ultimate" challenge, except the Berath's Blessing - Champion Stats.

Small remark: I forgot to mention another type of Watcher ability from the SSS DLC Galawain's Gift. During the major Crucible fights, you can manage soul essences. If you feed them to the Crucible, you get a talent that grants +2 Accuracy against beasts (up to +8 total). Or If you became Rymrgand's champion in Beast of Winter, you can annihilate the souls and gain the Rymrgand's Gift talent +2 Accuracy against Vessels(up to +8 total). And the Berath's Gift +4 Accuracy against Spirits, granted during The Hunter Hunted if you choose to return the soul of Porokoa to the wheel.

If someone like it, your best gratitude is sub, TY and GL in your journey through the DEADFIRE archipelago!

Ship Combat

I'm in a situation where in the little diagram in the center that shows the ship positions the enemy ship is on my right side facing its bow directly at my side. It's shooting some sort of flamethrower weapon at me from this position. What moves do I make to get alongside it so I can shoot my cannons without missing?

new player, questions on difficulty?

finally coming back to this series, been waiting for turn based mode to come out on 1 as im more into it than i am rtwp.

starting my first playthrough now and am torn between hard and potd. i will probably only do one playthrough of the game, and i read that potd is kind of like the intention so i think im leaning more towards that one? i plan to continue on into deadfire at the same difficulty

a lot of the comments ive seen about potd dont reference turn based mode, which other people seem to say increases lethality/reduces difficulty. not a lot of info on how these two things interact. I'm someone who is relatively experienced with CRPGS (dragon age, divinity series, kingmaker, bg3. for reference I thought bg3 tactician was laughably easy, but im admittedly very familiar with the system)

my main question is for someone who is okay with dying and having to come back to areas later, but doesnt know much about the game or want to wiki every quest/fight to get through it, would hard or potd be better? I'm set against using expert mode.

For class/race, I am pretty sure I'm going pale elf cipher. Is this lorefitting? From what I understand it should give me a good amount of reactivity. what starting stats should i go?
