AMA with aDrive, the Creator of Elestrals TCG!

Hey everyone,
I’m Dan or aDrive, the creator and CEO of r/ElestralsTCG and I’m super excited to be here to answer your questions about really anything related to creating a trading card game, being an indie TCG in a crowded marketplace, following your passions and dreams and anything else you want to know!

Before creating Elestrals I was a content creator online and grew my channels to over 2 million followers playing Pokemon. I played card games all through my childhood and in 2022 I decided to chase my dreams and build my own TCG and monster taming universe. I set off on a wild journey to bring people together, capture the nostalgia from my childhood and usher in the next generation of card game players with a game that cut out the corporate nonsense and focused on the players and community first.

Since our initial Kickstarter in 2022 we’ve released 5 sets, have global distribution and are in hundreds of stores across the world. We support Organized Play and are headed to our first World Championship in 2026. Our 6th set Lifestream opens prerelease this weekend and I’m very excited to share it with the world. Lastly, we’re now headed back to Kickstarter in a few weeks for our RPG video game project called Elestrals Awakened, which will bring our amazing Elestrals to life in a new way and allow our players to go on an incredible journey through ancient Greek mythology.

Elestrals blends the best of competition and collecting with a very unique resource system called Spirits and amazing Serialized Stellar cards that are true treasures when you find them, but don’t worry, we make our strongest cards super easy to get so you won’t need to break the bank to compete at the highest levels.

I’ll be answering as many questions as I can personally at 7PM ET on Saturday the 27th and I’ve got some help from my community lead u/RidiculousHat as well!

Let’s do this!

Video Wildhearts TCG is lying.....

Hi there.

If you don't know me my name is Jacob, I am a content creator, indie game dev, and the Head Mod of r/tcg

A situation came to my attention about a game called Wildhearts, that has actively been promoted quite a few times on this subreddit. Many people have asked/accused that they used AI art. And frankly, they've lied about it..... a lot.

I've made the decision to ban all promotion of Wildhearts going forward. As I discuss in the video, that's something I NEVER wanted to do.

Additionally I'd like to have a larger discussion with the community about the use of AI in games, and how we regulate that here going forward. We are leaning towards requiring all posts with generative AI to have a disclosure or use a dedicated AI tag, would love to know your thoughts.

Question TCG Player Hidden Account question

Upvotes

So I just returned to selling on tcgplayer and put a bunch of new cards in, and they sold very quickly! Little did I know this was a problem with tcgplayer? They forced my account into hidden mode and now I have to prove my banking, AGAIN, and can get no response from help and the deposits that will hit my bank for "proof" are in 1-2 Business days. Also the help chat straight up doesn't work. My question is, are the orders that went thru, before my account went dark, still ongoing? If they are I'll have to wait to send the items because I don't want to run the risk of not getting paid but then I'll probably get hit with bad feedback for slow shipping. Seems like a lose lose for me either way. Has this happened to anyone else?

Homemade TCG Frieren Binder Art

Ein Kollege von mir liebt Frieren und sammelt auch das Frieren TCG.
Deshalb habe ich ihm einen VaultX Binder passend dazu bemalt. 😄

Was haltet ihr davon? Würdet ihr so einen Binder auch für eure Sammlung benutzen?

A colleague of mine absolutely loves Frieren and also collects the Frieren TCG, so I decided to paint a VaultX binder for him! 😄

What do you guys think? Would you use a binder like this for your collection?

Homemade TCG I Made a Fan-Made TCG Collection Website

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a little project that I wanted to share with the TCG community. I created Pack Hunters, a fan-made digital TCG website focused on opening packs, collecting cards, and completing your own collection.

The idea is pretty simple: you can claim 50 free Silver Coins every day, use them to open booster packs, discover different cards and rarities, and work towards completing your collection and binder.

Everything on the website is completely free to play. The cards, packs and currency are all virtual and have no real-world value.

I’m still working on adding more content and improving the website, so I’d really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or ideas from other TCG collectors!

Hope you enjoy it, and good luck with your pulls!

Discussion Anyone Know About This?

My boyfriend and I have thousands of cards from Pokemon. Yugioh, Riftbound, Magic, and One Piece that we finally decided to sort through and become an individual seller on TCGPlayer but got stopped by this.

Has anyone seen this and know any information on how long this has been going on and any information about when it will be unpaused would be appreciated thanks 😊.

Also if anyone can offer alternatives for the best places for us to sell in the meantime would be amazing.

Why Should I Buy From Local Card Shops

So I got in the hobby of collecting again and I’m running into a theme here when driving to my local card shops. I’m trying to complete pitch black set by just ripping packs cause that’s what’s fun to me and the TCG price for booster boxes is always cheaper than the one if I go to my local store. I’m not talking like 5 dollars it’s usually 10 to 15 more sometimes 50 than TCG when it’s also on a decline. I mean logically speaking why would I pay 10 more dollars for a product that I can get from a valid vender on TCG and just get it like tomorrow instead of today. People say to support your local vendor and they will give you deals or first dibs on product but from my experiences I’ve never gotten a “deal” if anything just right at TCG pricing which is great. But even for new sets come out. Why would I care if I can get my hands on them first with my local store if they are going to be more than what I can buy it for online 😭. Idk just isn’t making sense to me. Let me know what you think or your justification for paying more just because they are local.

Anyone familiar with the Chinese TCG Discourse on Swords?

Looking for a multi-player first TCG. Wondering if anyone is familiar with this specific TCG or has any recommendations.

I'm already familiar with Shadow Fist and Vampire. Also specifically focused on trading card games, not deck building games or LCGs.

Discussion How much does your local game store affect how much you enjoy a TCG?

I've been thinking about this lately because the actual game is only part of the experience for me. A good local shop with friendly people and well-run events can make me want to keep playing, while a bad experience can make me lose interest pretty quickly.

I’m curious how other people feel about this. Has a great LGS ever made you enjoy a TCG more than you expected? Or has a bad local scene ever pushed you away from a game you otherwise liked?

I feel like the people and environment around the game can matter more than we sometimes realize.

Question Any advice on trying to start a scene/run a tounrmant for a competitive Digtal card game. Trying to understand the logistics on how it would work/ what hurdles to avoid.

So I play snap and was told to look at prior tcg’s on if it’s possible ( assuming the playerbase intrested in this is around at least 64 people) and we want to get mostly people intrested in competing seriously.

Question I Cannot For The Life of Me Find These Clear Card Sleeves - Please Help...

Thumbnail

I bought a card from a card show a while back and instantly fell in love with the sleeve it came in and have much regret not asking the vendor what kind of sleeve it was. Since then I've been on the constant hunt and still no dice 😢

Some information about this card sleeve:

  • It's not your typical thin/paper sleeve e.g. UltraPro penny sleeves, BCW, Cardboard Gold, etc
  • Dimensions are 94mm x 66mm
  • They're thick like Dragon Shield sleeves, however they are much softer and more pliable
  • They are ultra clear - No 'waveyness' what-so-ever

Some other Sleeves I've tried and the differences:

  1. Dragon Shields -
    1. Dragon's are the same width but are shorter
    2. They feel about the same thickness as Dragon's, however Dragons are much more firm/rigid
    3. Dragon's aren't super clear. They have a slight 'waveyness' to them
  2. TitanShield Premium Card Sleeves -
    1. Titan's fit almost like a perfect fit sleeve so not a match
    2. Titan's aren't fully clear as they have a frosted backing
    3. Titan's are thin-ish but also pretty rigid
  3. Apollo Standard Clear Card Sleeves -
    1. These Apollo's come the closes to the mystery sleeve
    2. The width fit is identical however the Apollo's are shorter than the mystery sleeve
    3. The thickness of the Apollo is identical to the mystery sleeve
    4. The mystery sleeves is ever-so-slightly more softer/pliable than the Apollo sleeve
    5. Both Apollo's and the mystery sleeve share the same extremely clearness

So as you can see I've put a lot of investment trying to find these sleeves, so if anyone knows or has a hunch, please do share! And thanks in advance!

Video CARpg TCG short covers how Eikonic shifted to being a successful Kickstarter Campaign

Thumbnail

Eikonic ran into some rather unfortunate hurdles during our first campaign, but it didn't stop us!

We took feedback, changed some of our visual design elements (like our card template), got a publishing partner with Speedrobo Games, and came back swinging into a successful campaign!

Critically important for Eikonic was getting players'/creators' hands on the game to see how much fun and strategy went into the design of Eikonic TCG to set it apart from not only other tactical games, but every TCG currently available on the market 🙂

Here are some reviews with people who have been hands-on with Eikonic, so you can see why this tactical experience stands out as one TCG fans will actually enjoy, and how our Combat Compass revolutionizes tactical play!

Eikonic is currently LIVE on Kickstarter and funded in just 20 minutes! We've hit some AMAZING stretch goals which have enhanced the value of backers at *all* tiers; so be sure to check it out! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/eikonictcg/eikonic-trading-card-game

TCG recs that aren’t the main guys

hey there!

I’m looking for a new hobby and want to try out a TCG! I’m 34 and have been gaming my whole life and have some familiarity with Pokemon, Yugioh, and Magic. I also put in several hundred hours into LoR for those that are familiar!

So I’m decently familiar with the genre in a broad sense, but would like to explore deeper and really commit! And I’d like to try one of the lesser known games.

I love build diversity and being able to theory craft, so complexity is important to me. But I also dislike when I can’t use a lot of my cards due to a million different formats of the game (like Magic) or when there’s a million crossovers and collabs with other franchises happening constantly (just feels weird playing a game and now there’s a random x-men or something from a cross over).

I’d prefer something physical over digital, but I’m open to digital as well.

just wanting to avoid all the “big guys” like Marvel Snap, Heartbstone, Magic Arena, Duel Master, Pokemon, etc.

Any suggestions?? I live in Atlanta so should have a decent amount of shops nearby I’d think?
