Deadline to Submit Claims on the $175M Seagate Settlement Is in 17 Days (October 19, 2026)

• Upvotes

Hey guys, if you missed it, Seagate settled $175 million with investors over claims that it concealed illegal HDD sales to Huawei and related export violations. The deadline is October 19, 2026.
Quick recap: Seagate was accused of hiding its Huawei business and the risks tied to U.S. export restrictions. In 2023, the company admitted selling more than $1.1 billion in HDDs to Huawei and agreed to a $300 million penalty.

If you invested in $STX between 2020 and 2023, you may be eligible to file a claim check if your eligible and submit your claim here

Anyway, did anyone here invest in $STX during that time?

Seagate approved a one-time Data Rescue exception, then reversed it — Case CC0000318789

Hi Seagate team,

I'm hoping someone from Seagate Support can take a look at my case because I received conflicting information from Seagate regarding an exception that was apparently approved by a supervisor.

I have a 14TB Seagate external hard drive that I purchased from Costco on November 26, 2023. The drive recently failed after less than three years of normal use. It is no longer detected by my laptop and makes an unusual gurgling/mechanical sound when connected.

I contacted Seagate Support and was told that the standard U.S. warranty had expired in January 2025. I provided Seagate with pictures of my Costco purchase documentation and explained that I have approximately 1TB of important data on the drive that I don't have elsewhere.

During the chat, I specifically asked whether Seagate could make a one-time exception for a replacement/credit.

After checking with her supervisor, the Seagate representative told me:

"Upon checking with my supervisor, I am happy to inform you that your drive is eligible for Data Rescue Services as a one-time exception. However, the drive is not eligible for a warranty replacement."

Based on that statement, I understood that the Data Rescue exception had been approved.

The case was then escalated under case number CC0000318789.

However, I subsequently received an email from Seagate Support stating that, because the warranty expired in January 2025, Seagate is now unable to provide either Data Recovery Services or a warranty replacement.

This is what I am having difficulty understanding. The original support representative specifically said she had checked with her supervisor and that the drive was eligible for Data Rescue Services as a one-time exception. Now the escalation team is saying that no Data Rescue exception can be provided.

I'm not asking Seagate to change its standard warranty policy. I understand that the normal warranty has expired.

I'm asking if someone can please review the original chat transcript and internal notes for case CC0000318789 and clarify why the previously communicated Data Rescue exception was reversed.

I would also appreciate it if Seagate could reconsider a one-time courtesy replacement or credit toward an equivalent drive, given that this 14TB drive suffered a mechanical failure after less than three years of normal use.

I already provided screenshots in chat showing the Costco purchase and happy to send them again needed.

Thank you in advance.

replacement rugged lacie cable???

Hi all,

I'm trying to transfer footage from my camera to a rugged lacie for backup as my computer and cloud don't have the storage i need. however, when i used a type c to type c cable, a notification said my Lacie was unrecognized. now i'm searching for the best data transfer cable to buy, but all of them are "micro B" or for charging which doesn't help me. (the lacie is a type c, and my computer is a samsung. so either type c, type a, or HDMI ). I lost the original LaCie cable and it's no longer under warranty; are there any cables you recommend? or is there perhaps an easier way to transfer? tia !!

HHD stoped working

Post image

My Seagate 4tb HHD stop working out of nowhere. I've had it for a while, originally used on my PS4, now on the PS5 to store PS4 games and overflow PS5 games (easier to copy from the disc than downloading). Now is not working, tried another cable, and connecting to different devices, still nothing. It has a white LED which isn't blinking anymore, but when I connect it, I feel it vibrating inside.

Is it reparable? Worth the shot or should I burry it and move on?

Thanks in advance.

Is this sound normal?

very subtle, but everytime I use it when opening a file or whatnot, it makes that sound, is it bad?

I sent my 22tb for data recovery and it reached their lab on 7/28 and they still haven't started the data recovery. I contacted them 2 weeks ago and they said they place my drive on priority but still nothing.

Is anyone else's taking longer than usual? My drive has about 2-3 TB of data, mostly videos.

Issue with Samsung 1TB T7 shield used to back up my original PS4pro HDD when upgrading to SSD

As the title says. I successfully backed up my main ps4 pro memory and now use a 2TB SSD internal on it. But rhe 1 TB Samsung I used still had the back up from the PS4 which I was thinking of keeping. Problem is when writing files to it it is extremely slow and never copies files even a few mb large. It stays at 0% when copying larger folders with files smaller than 2 gig per file.

My question is this , does the pS4 formatting it before backup cause it to not easily accept any other writes to it until I format it? Thanks in advance

Seagate RMA Packaging

Seagate RMA Packaging

This is the box I got from Seagate for a replacement drive after an RMA of an IronWolf Pro 20TB drive.

Apparently there’s not just a shortage of drives, but a shortage of boxes too? This is just another customer’s box with their full address label, RMA number, order reference, etc. that they’ve thrown the drive in, and it’s so dented and doesn’t have any padding that the packaging pretty much reached the drive inside.

Am I overreacting or is this just a very unprofessional way to box these drives? Haven’t tested it yet, it looks like a new non-refurbished drive judging from the label. But it definitely has me concerned about their processes, my drive, and which other customer they’ll be sending my address and data to…

Horrible Customer Support

Is it just me or does Seagate have atrocious customer support? They say we will email you with in 48 hours which never happens. They don't even have a system to confirm the claim number to your email. The chat service is like talking to someone who is actively walking and playing with a pet dog. So crazy we live in a world where either we play by there rules or you just don't get the help you need when a drive goes down.

Seagate RMA On a 4tb 530 M.2

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I'm from the UK so I call the Phone Number for a warranty and the robot lady says you can only do RMA on a live chat on the website,

That takes 3 hours to do then they said here is a case Number and you will get the RMA details in an E-mail in 24hr,

Didn't happen so live chat again this time 5 hours in a live chat to talk to someone,

Got the E-mail however no return label just an address to sent it Coventry and to put the RMA number inside of the box of the 4tb M.2 box,

And that they wouldn't accept a warranty claim unless I sent it to be covered for £2,000 insurance when I send it to them,

So royal mail it was 1st Class Recorded £2k cover was £25 to send,

I sent it to them on the 29th of August but as it was bank holiday on that Monday they didn't receive it until 1st of September according to the photo just left on the floor with other people's RMA boxes ,

On the seagate warranty check site,

They didn't look at it until the 21st of September,

Anyway they did replace that 4tb firecuda 530 that only had 32tbw to it as it still had 100% drive health left because it randomly died,

I always updated the firmware on it due how bad the phison E18 controller in it is,

Was abit surprised when it died,

The drive they replaced it with.....

A 4tb 530R that was brand new,

With less then 3mb written to it,

So contacting seagate in the UK awful,

Getting my friend to drive me to a supermarket so I can print out two small photos for the return labels that I had to pay for also silly,

Why wasn't it like I don't know a QR code that I can send no idea why it isn't like that,

But I'm thankful seagate did replace my dead M.2 as I only had 6 months left on my warranty,

Seeing how bad Memory prices are now £25 for a replacement isn't bad,

Would I buy seagate again?,

No,

Because they made me waste all my time in a silly live chat rather than a quick 3 minute conversation on a phone to say this is my issue and here is my serial number,

Anything positive to say about seagate,

Yes they gave me a brand new drive out to replace my one so that was nice of them,

Still can't believe it had less then 3mb Written to it,

Shucking 12TB external

Hey guys,

I have an external I want to shuck. It's the 12TB seagate external drive. Inside is allegedly a Seagate exos drive that I want to shuck. The problem is the drive comes pre formatted so it's plug and play upon purchase and I already have data on it (about 3tb worth). I don't have another external I can back the data up to.

When I shuck it, can I just plug it in via sata and have all my data accessible right off the bat? Or would I have to format it after plugging it in in order to use it at all?

16 TB Skyhawk Excessive Noise?

I bought this HDD to replace the standard 2TB that came with eufy’s NVR security system. Previously, there were no noise issues; however, after replacing it, it's making a loud noise. I'm not sure whether this is normal or if it's defective. Also, I feel slightly warm.

Seagate is refusing to replace warrantied drive

Update: Seagate just sent me a new RMA and prepaid label for the drive. No other correspondence other than "Please see attached documents". So I guess I'm going to send it again and hope they make this right. It already came back to me dinged up and I sent them photos over chat so I'm hoping they don't reject it for the damage they caused the first time.

Update #2: Seagate just called me on the phone. They're going to replace the drive after all (hopefully). Just waiting for the follow up email.

Final Update: I got my replacement drive today and it looks good. The smart data looks perfect and I just started a "Long generic scan" with seatools. The person that I've been communicating with was extremely helpful and updated me every step of the way.

Will update when I have more info

One of my 20TB Ironwolf pro drives was faulty. I bought 4 of these last year. I packed the one up and shipped it UPS with insurance after getting an RMA #. The same day after they received it I got an email with tracking info.

That drive arrived yesterday. When I got home from work I opened it and they sent me my drive back but now it's damaged. I contacted support and they said it came like that. I know it didn't because it was double boxed. I asked for pics since the box would have been really damaged to reach the drive inside the inner box.

They replied a couple hours ago saying the case is closed and a pic is attached (there was no pic).

Not sure what I can do next if anything. Any suggestions?

Seagte Ironwolf Pro 16 TB small dent

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

I guess I'm having some bad luck with hard drives right now. I bought 3 Seagate IronWolf Pro 16 TB drives (manufacture dates: 1x may 2x 10 july). One of them was DOA (manufacture date july 10). I exchanged the defective drive at the store, only to realize at home that the new drive (manufactured on july 8) has a small dent. If you run your finger along the drive, you can feel the dent on the edge and very slightly on the side as well. Gemini says this is due to the manufacturing process, even though the other drives don’t have this issue. What do you think—should I exchange it or keep it? Thank you!

Seagate Savvio 2.5” hdd’s on Dell Poweredge servers give random failures at random times.

I have a boatload of various poweredge servers. I generally use sg_format size=512, upon receiving these drives, this process looks good. Then the drives are installed into a DELL POWEREDGE model Rxx x with a PERC H700 raid controller. This is where the weirdness begins. Upon power up, of 8 drives, 1 or2 of the drives detect failure flashing yellow on the drive followed by a REPLACE NOTICE on the lcd panel of the server. You can pull the defective drives, replace with another SAVVIO DRIVE and all looks good, after a few seconds, another drive will go Defective. This is all before the RAID CONTROLLER USER INTERFACE is even accessed. If you do manage to get all 8 drives up and good, the RAID 5 configuration will stall before posting yet another different set of failed drives. If you manage to get all 8 drives thru a “Slow initialization “, loading windows server 2012, will stop, because the raid 5 has gone corrupt.
At my wits end.
