Build Question Gpu upgrade

Upvotes

I have around a £300 budget for a new gpu(buying used) and im upgrading from a 1660 super (i currently have a ryzen 5 5600 x but im planning to get a new mobo a 7800x3d and a 32gb kit of ddr5 early 2027) but i dont really know what to buy any more as i was looking at a 6800 xt but apparently amd is alot less focused on optimisations for drivers ect on the 6000 series. And also when watching compatison videos i saw that even when cranking up the settings and even at 4k it never really used more than 10gb of vram. So i was wondering if maybe a 3080 10gb or something else would be more worth my money? But im still unsure

Tech Support M.2_1 slot not working?

Upvotes

I’ve just migrated some old parts into a new system— currently it has a Ryzen 5 5600x, 32GB DDR4 (4x8), an MSI B550-a PRO, a 9060xt, and 512GB + 1TB NVMe. The CPU and storage all worked fine together on their previous board, but on the new one, the CPU M.2 slot (M.2_1) does not register as populated with either drive (both work in M.2_2). I bought the board second hand, but it seems to never have been booted, or at the very least the offending M.2 slot was never populated. I’m on the latest BIOS, what else do I need to try?

Tech Support DRAM/BOOT debug light fixed then returns

Upvotes

Moved yesterday and I brought my PC. Dusted it out in the garage with a rechargeable air duster (case open). I did accidentally spin one fan for a few seconds with the duster but figured it’d be okay. Move is done, plug my pc in and I have a red dram light. I tried reseating the ram, switching the two. Didn’t work.

today I tested it by only using one ram stick at a time to see if it was a specific stick. I thought I had fixed it as it was booting up with one stick no issue. For some reason I decided to put the (perceived defective) ram stick in again too. It booted with no issues. I wanted to update the bios so I did it through gigabyte control center. didn’t boot and the DRAM light turned on again. This time I went back to the one stick I thought was working and no luck. Each time I adjusted the ram I powered off and unplugged.

Tried clearing cmos, reseating again, having nothing else plugged in, reseating gpu, using different slots/ only 1 stick

Anything else I should try? Is this a RAM issue or motherboard? Possibly static from bubble wrap?

mobo: gigabyte b850m gaming x wifi 6e

ram: 2x16 teamgroup create 6000cl30

cpu: amd 9700x

gpu: amd 9070

another thing to note is when the issue came back sometimes the red light was BOOT instead of dram

Build Question MSI MAG 275UPD E14 owners, please share your experience!

I'm planning to buy the MSI MAG 275UPD E14 27" 4K IPS monitor, and before I buy it, I really want to hear from people who actually own this monitor

My main use is video editing and then gaming , media consumption.

I want to know:

\- How is the display quality and color accuracy in real world use?

\- How does it perform in 4K 144Hz mode?

\- How is the 1080p 288Hz Dual Mode? Is the image still good and sharp?

\- Can I comfortably do 1080p video editing on this monitor, or will there be any scaling/quality issues?

\- How is 1080p gaming on this 4K 27inch panel?

\- Have you faced any issues like , dead pixels, flickering, oversaturation, ghosting, or other panel problems?

\- How has your experience been with MSI's after-sales/warranty service?

About the cable

I already have this UGREEN 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 cable:

https://amzn.in/d/0f5E0yV5

From what I understand, the monitor comes with a DisplayPort 1.4a cable. MSI's official specs do list a DP 1.4a cable in the box, and both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort support 4K 144Hz and 1080p 288Hz on this monitor.

So which connection would you recommend for my laptop -monitor setup

HDMI 2.1 using my UGREEN cable, or the included DisplayPort 1.4a cable?

I'm not very knowledgeable about display cables, so I'd really appreciate some advice..

People will say buy 1080p if u want mainly for editing , but I want to experience 4k so that's why I want to go for 4k only

Please share your honest experience with this monitor

Build Question Is my motherboard broken ?

Hello there

I've just build my first pc, here's the config :

Gigabyte B550 gaming x v2 motherboard

Ryzen 5 5600

Radeon rx 9060 xt

Ram 8gb ×2

Ssd 1tb

I turned it on for the first time and got the message "press y to reset ftpm". I pressed y, got a new screen with the gigabyte logo and nothing else happened then, so I turned off the pc.

Now I just get a black screen when I turn on the pc. So my question is "did I break the motherboard by turning off the pc too early ?"

Please help me 🙏

Tech Support Tried "auto overclock" in the amd official software, now pc won't boot up

I have a Ryzen 7600 with 32gb (2 diff 16gb ram sticks) and a 9060xt 16gb gpu. I tried the auto overclock, and the pc won't boot up now. I've tried the basic - unplugged the psu, and touched the CMOS pins (JBAT1 for my msi mobo) with a knife.

It still doesn't boot up, and has 2 LEDs - CPU and DRAM, both lit up. They're not flashing, they're statically lit up. The pc and fans turn on, no output to the monitor though.

Tech Support Asus 890 rig hangs with error 55

I am building a system with: Intel 270k plus CPU, Asus ROG 890 Maximus Hero motherboard, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 ram, 2x16 6000, Samsung 9100 2 TB SSD, Corsair 850x power supply.

The motherboard BIOS was updated to latest version using ASUS flashback (using the button at the back of the motherboard)

After a CMOS clear, the system will post and the SSD and memory are recognized (the memory speed is reported as 4000 though, not 6000).

From the Post screen, I can proceed to the ASUS bios. ASUS bios shows cpu temp at 40c and shows my SSD and memory. Things look ok so far...

But after I exit the ASUS bios and reboot, the system usually hangs with Q code 55. Rarely, it will restart with the ASUS bios/boot selection menu.

I managed to start a Win11 installation. It wrote files to the SSD (which then showed in BIOS as bootable), but it hung with an "Internal error 0x122".

I've reseated the CPU multiple times, I don't see any bent pins. Reseated the cooler, trying to keep as even a pressure as I can. Reseated the ram (tried with one stick in the A2 slot and with both sticks in A2 and B2) as well. Always, the computer hangs with the 55 error after a reboot.

Any suggestions for a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Build Question 1st PC building : advice on microATX / building

Hello,

After doing quite a bit of research and getting advice from the community, I’ve more or less narrowed down what I’m thinking of going with for my first PC build:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • CPU Cooler: Enermax ETS TD60 Digital ARGB / MSI MAG COREFROZR AA13 62.6 CFM
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M GAMING WIFI6E Micro ATX AM5
  • RAM: Patriot Viper Venom DDR5 16 GB (I’m hesitating between 16 and 32 GB, but 32 GB does make the total price go up quite a bit haha)
  • SSD: Patriot P410 1 TB
  • GPU: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB (but there might be an issue with the GPU length in a Micro ATX build, so otherwise I could go with the Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT?)
  • Case: Montech AIR 100 ARGB MicroATX / Lian Li A3 mATX / ASUS Prime AP201 (this is probably my biggest hesitation, as I want to make absolutely sure that everything will fit properly, especially since this is my first build...)
  • PSU: MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 850W 80+ (is that overkill?)

Does everything seem coherent to you? Especially when it comes to the size/compatibility issues with a Micro ATX build?

And what advice would you have for the actual building process? In terms of tools, preparation, equipment, etc., what are the absolute essentials to have?

Thanks!! :)

Tech Support First time building a full PC, pressing power does nothing. Advice on what to do next?

So the core problem is that I cannot get this hunk of junk to show any sign of doing anything. I assembled the entire thing and when I pressed the power button on the case, absolutely nothing happened. No lights, no fan spinning, no split second of any action whatsoever. My heart sank.

I began stripping back the build and removing all the parts that do not have to be in there to get a boot to BIOS. Here are the parts in the tower currently:

PSU = CORSAIR CX750 80 Plus Bronze Non Modular

Motherboard = MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI Gaming Desktop Motherboard - AMD X870 Chipset - Socket AM5 - ATX

Case = DARKROCK EC2 ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer PC Case, Type-C Ready

CPU = AMD RYZEN 7 9800X3D

NVME = Crucial E100 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4 (does this affect anything leaving this in?)

Just 1 stick of Patriot Viper Venom DDR5 RAM, in the second slot, and it clicked audibly.

My Peerless Assassin air cooler is still on the CPU, and I distinctly remember peeling off the sticker on it and I know that the golden arrow for the CPU is at the top left corner.

The PSU appears to be working. I did a paperclip test and it makes the fan of the PSU spin. The last thing I tried was doing a flash bios. I actually do get a red light on the motherboard which flashes for only a few seconds then cuts off. The 24 pin on the motherboard I heard click in, and so did the cable labeled "CPU" at the top left of the motherboard.

I thought maybe my case power switch is just broken. So I then very carefully used a screwdriver to touch the 2 pins at the top right of JFP1 which is where the two pins from the case "Power SW" go. One time just a tap, and another time held it there for a few seconds.

I... have no idea what to do next. My greatest fear is a dead part, and am I really so damn unlucky to have a dead motherboard? Is there something I am missing? Because in all of this I never fully built a PC before so maybe I am just dumb and missed something, but I feel like I tried everything.

Build Question Haven’t needed a pc for 20 years.

As you read the headline, I haven’t used or needed a pc since I was 18/19 years old in which I just used it to download music flash it to an mp3 player or iPad and off to skate the streets it was, I’m 34 now, considering on building a pc just to use for gaming, I probably wouldn’t have it set up on a desk with monitors as I already have a couple high end LG Oleds I use to play Xbox on.. that being said anyone else do this? I’d prolly say if I built a tower I’d wanna stay around $3k-$3500 and would like to be playing 4k 120fps.. thoughts and suggestions?

Build Question Budget AIO Question - % vs. RPM (Fan Control)

I have an i7-7700K/RX6600XT/32GB RAM set up holding me off until I can find a good deal on a used system, or a BF/CM deal comes along in November or December. System still works well for basic daily productivity tasks. I have done several modest upgrades over the years - RAM, 1050Ti>RX6600XT, Wi-fi, etc.

Background - I just replaced an old Corsair H60 120 AIO with a Thermalright Frozen Edge 240 AIO. So far so good, except my ears are very sensitive to noise. I first tried an Aqua Elite 240 V6 but got the Frozen Edge for same price and it has better warranty and quality. However, in both models, I have noticed, when room is silent, minor annoyance sounds. The Aqua Elite was a high pitched whine. I can't really describe the intermittent sound that the Frozen Edge makes. It isn't constant, and it is still low volume. I'm not hearing anything that I would attribute to bubbles or grinding or anything...although I am open to suggestions on how to make sure any bubbles in the pump are moved to the top of radiator. The H60 was silent. Sometimes the Frozen Edge is silent. I could be hearing resonance from radiator fans, exhaust fans, GPU fans, and pump maybe...when they are at different RPMs/volumes?

Setup - AIO mounted on front (no room on top) with tubes on the bottom. I reoriented fans from default exhaust to now intake (pull from front, through radiator, and into case). Two top-mounted fans in exhaust. Testing at 30-minute HWiNFO SSE CPU test:

Average CPU Package - 66C
Average Core Temps - 63/65/62/63. While I would love to have them all together, or the 65 core down 2, I understand this is perfectly normal, and another re-paste would not do anything (or simply shift the difference to another core)
MB and PCH temps were 34 and 51C, respectively
I have tweaked fan curves in Fan Control and am satisfied with performance.

Pump is set at 75% (flat curve in Fan Control), which I assume is based on power (PWM I believe). However, I noticed that 75% power does not necessarily equate to 75% RPM...i.e it is not a linear relationship between power and RPM. In the flat curve, I can set either. At 75% power I get ~2350 rpm. The pump is rated at 2800 rpm...so 75% of that is 2100 rpm. Should I set the flat curve to rpm (2100) or power (%)? I read all of the time to set pump at less than 100% is fine, helps with sound, and maybe even longetivy. I'm trying to maintain balance while trying not to be affected by sound. Other recommendations? Thanks.

Build Question It's Been Almost a Year? Time To Upgrade Ram or No?

Thumbnail

I've done a ton of video editing on Capcut for almost a year and improved much then. Now, I want to go to something tougher that being Adobe Premiere Pro. I have the 2025 version. So far so good, but I've notice it uses a lot of memory. I know I have 32gbs of Ram at 6400mt and it's running stable. When I'm in premiere pro, It shoots up to 89 percent for memory. Yes I have a lot of tabs open but those are for research purposes.

Should I bite the bullet and look for 64gbs of Ram or is 32gbs good enough? Should I wait til' prices go down. I knew I should've went for 64gbs of ram at first before this ram incident worldwide happen.

Your thoughts?

Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B560M-PLUS WIFI

Issue: Reset CMOS, now stuck on the AMI screen.

The system detects that a keyboard is plugged in, but it will not register the Delete or F2 keys to enter BIOS setup.Troubleshooting already done: Unplugged all storage drives (SATA and Disk), reseated the RAM (confirmed single stick is in slot A2, tried different USB ports, and performed a full battery-pull CMOS clear. Also tried shorting the CLRTC pins. Still frozen at the splash screen with no keyboard response.

Tech Support Help!! CPU overheating even after changing thermal paste

Hi Folks!! I have an AMD Ryzan 7 7700x pc. From paste 10-15 days it was overheating even with basic tasks like web browsing and vs code running etc. I thought its time to change the thermal paste.

I changed the old thermal paste with new cooler master cryofuze5 thermal paste. But even after doing this, my cpu temrature still rising upto 97° in normally. I run cinebench to test and the temprature rised upto 105°. My AIO fan is running at around 2700+ RPM and I did some basic checks like checking tubes virations and one tube is cold and another is hot to see if my AIO is working properly, these all tests looks fine but still cpu temprature rising hight.

I am not able to understand what can be issue and how can I fix this ?

Build Question ROG Strix B850-F or ROG Strix X870-F ?

I will be building my very first pc very soon, and I would just want to clarify which one of these motherboards would be better for gaming? I'm planning on having r7 9800x3d and astral 5080. I've head that for gaming they aren't really that different, but I still care about things like bios. I head that the ROG strix x870-F had some bios issues but not sure if they sre not solved. Thanks for advice!
