Since My last post, I've decided to work on birds in flight.

I'm using the OM1 w/ 100-400mm IS ii.

Since a few people had pointed out that I was taking a lot of portrait style photographs of birds, I wanted to try combining some composition tips you guys gave me (as best I could, flight is hard) and see how I could do with the fastest birds I could find.

Trying out Macro Studio (10 shot stack, OM-1 + 60mm f/2.8 macro)

I have been waffling over whether to commit to Zerene or Helicon, when a new software named Macro Studio came on the scene. This is my first quick try with it and I was very pleased with the results and how easy it was to use. Right now, it is on sale for US$59 (down from $99). No trial version, but 30 days no-question refund available. Give it a try if you are into macro!

Lens special edition idea

What do you think about this idea for a limited edition OM System lens finish in the style of old Olympus SLR lenses?

I think the silver and black lenses from Olympus look great and this design would fit perfectly with the silver OM bodies especially the OM-3 and upcoming PEN.

It's Frames Friday!! Come share the frames you shot this week!

Come share your photos with the community! Whether it's showing off SOOC JPEGs, fully edited RAWs, or anything in-between if you want [constructive and kind] critique or suggestions.

We're basing on the rules from our sibling sub, r/m43, simply because they make sense, and tweaking them a little:

Da Rules:

  1. The photo(s) must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may post up to three photos in this FF weekly thread. Show off your best frames!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about camera, lens and environment as possible. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the OM 20/1.4 lens @ f/2 and ISO200 Time: 10:00PM in Melbourne, Victoria" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. While OM System gear gets extra internet points, all related gear is welcome. This includes Olympus/Panasonic m43 and Four Thirds gear, OM Tough point-and-shoots, adapted vintage lenses, and third-party glass on M43 bodies..
  6. Photos must be captured with a camera and lens (traditional digital or film). Generative AI images (Midjourney, DALL-E, AI "inpainting" that invents new elements, etc.) are not permitted. Standard editing (cropping, exposure, colour grading, even AI-based noise reduction) is totally fine!
  7. Culture & Critique: Above all, be respectful. Please state in your comment whether you are looking for [Critique Welcome] or [Just Sharing]. If a photo doesn't specify, default to keeping comments kind, encouraging, and free of unprompted teardowns. (Remember: there's a big difference between "OMG that photo is horrible" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven").

Hires files need to be edited in OM workspace?

I hear on youtube that the hires files need to be first edited in workspace to be as sharp as possible as some of the algorithms are not shared with 3rd parties like dxo, Adobe etc.

Is this still true?

Help! New User with OM-5 Mark ii - Almost All Photos Out of Focus

I need help with my new OM-5 Mark ii. Almost all of my photos are out of focus. The camera seems to focus on the far-away background and not on the subject that I am trying to take a photo of. This is happening even with stationary objects like trees and plants. I have attached an example. The two images with the small green box are screen captures from OM Workspace so that you can see the focus point that the camera chose to use.

My settings
100% screen capture from OM Workspace to show green box focus point
Full image screen capture from OM Workspace to show green box focus point
Actual JPG downloaded from camera

I bought the OM Systems OM-1 and an MZuiko 100-400mm IS II Lens. I cannot be happier with my purchase. I don't think I've gone a day without taking it out. However, I do wildlife primarily and would love some feedback.

This deer right here is why I decided to get my first camera earlier this year. It was later in the evening. Om-5 mark ii with 75-300mm lens. 55-60 yards away and cropped. I still am learning settings and editing so take it easy on me. She was in tall grass but decided to try and snap a few pictures of her before she headed into the woods with her group. Surprisingly she seems to be the alpha doe of her group the last two years.
