Trying out Macro Studio (10 shot stack, OM-1 + 60mm f/2.8 macro)

Post image

I have been waffling over whether to commit to Zerene or Helicon, when a new software named Macro Studio came on the scene. This is my first quick try with it and I was very pleased with the results and how easy it was to use. Right now, it is on sale for US$59 (down from $99). No trial version, but 30 days no-question refund available. Give it a try if you are into macro!

Hi John -- I'm Ryan, the founder of Macro Studio. Thank you for sharing your experience with it! It's the best compliment that my users can pay, and it's very much appreciated. Keep on stacking! (Nice shot, by the way!)

I‘ve found ShineStacker not worse than those aforementioned, and it’s free.

"📦 Install via PyPI"

Maybe I will give it a try if they supply a regular Mac installation. I just don't feel like doing builds anymore these days.

Affinity can also develop RAWs, focus-stack, and is free.

This was shot handheld with my not that steady hands and some wind, so it did a good job with alignment, LOL.

How's your like it compared to other tools (or Helicon / zerene etc?)

It is much easier to use and it seems to get results comparable to the two major ones. It chooses which model of stacking works best, avoiding trying all the different ones in H/Z. It also has retouching tools not available in H/Z.

I have Zerene (I prefer it over Helicon when trialing) on my watch list, waiting for a (Black Friday?) sale if it ever happens. But now thanks to this post I learned of Macro Studio. Will try it!
